Nasty meal

So, at the roommate's recommendation, we stopped at a place I had never been, Bill Miller's Bar-Be-Que. Now, she had said she had been with another friend of ours and it was okay. So, since we were driving by it, we stopped. I should've been suspicious, they treated it like a burger joint, with "meal #1) and stuff - and then you couldn't see them fixing the food - it was all in the back behind a wall... not good. We were taking it home, so it came out in a big bag (the cats like the bag). You know, they didn't even have proper to go plates! We told them "no sauce" there was sauce all over the meat. They didn't know what was in their food... and wouldn't check. The only good things were the french fries (chips for those non-Americans) and how badly can you mess them up (I know, you can, but you really have to work on it) and the iced tea (another thing you can mess up if you work on it.) The turkey was white meat and FATTY! The sauce, since I was sort of stuck with it, was BLAND! nearly tasteless, the beans were also bland, but not burnt or anything, and the "cole slaw" was TOO spicy! One bite of that and in the trash! The roomie said she was sorry and won't ever mention it again! here's their website... http://www.billmillerbbq.com/ maybe their fried chicken is better - but I don't eat fried chicken... at least I didn't get a reaction from the food... You ever been to a place that had such terrible food?

I am not out much & don't stop to get food when i am very often but when i do i stick to the same places. Wendy's is my favorite hamburger place & i like taco bell's taco salads. i stop there sometimes on my way home from church. I always bring it home w/me. Sorry your meal wasn't good. That's the pits to spend your money on something that wasn't good.

I like Sonic or What-a-burger for burgers, or grilled chicken sandwiches. And a Wendy's is actually the closest place, but I've had problems with their buns... However, with in 3 blocks there's a Wendy's, a Taco Bell, a What-a-Burger, a Burger King and a Sonic! Used to have a KFC but that closed (not the best KFC let me tell you!) Obviously Taco Bell isn't some place I frequent... I know several good or at least decent BBQ places, maybe they need to change their name to Bill Miller Chicken and more... their fried chicken looked okay... As the roomie said, we'll be sticking to Pok-e-jo's from now on!

I'm willing to try new places, that's how I discovered Pok-e-jo's in the first place, but this wasn't a winner!

I can't say it's happened to me but I have complained about the size of the portions. I'd eat at that place...it sounds pretty yummy. We don't have much of that sort of thing where I live and your food is much cheaper than ours. At KFC now 2 pieces and chips ( small fries) & a drink costs 7.45. I refuse to go there any more. Dad wanted some food recently and for 5 tiny pieces, two large chips (which I really didn't want) and 2 drinks it was $17 something. I was disgusted but Dad paid.

I used to be able to have my 2 pieces and chips for under $5 at KFC then it went to $5.45 then it went to $7.45 and I just can no longer justify my monthly treat for that much. I guess KFC is not for the poor. Woe is me.

Their menu looks good, their food was just vile! Yeah, KFC isn't that great and over priced - when a place does that I call them "overly fond of their food". But if the roomie wants fried chicken and I want grilled or roasted or whatever they are calling it, we have to go to KFC because the other places don't have chicken that isn't fried.

Bill Miller's Bar-b-que is an institution in the San Antonio area, and I've never heard any complaints. It's true that their beans are just pinto beans, but that's what I'd expect to compliment the barbuque. How can turkey white meat be fatty? I've had their fried chicken and found it to be good. In fact, I've not eaten anything from there that I didn't like. I've only actually eaten at the Universal City and the Schertz locations, though, but I've eaten at several functions that were catered by Bill Miller's and have never heard any complaints.

well, I suspect that the San Antonio ones might be better run... these folks didn't seem to know which was was up - the roomie got the LAST piece of lemon mergange pie and it was bad... and I really don't like BBQ sauce, so I DON'T want even a GREAT place to put sauce on my meat... because I don't know whats in that sauce, with my food allergies, a MAJOR concern!

My daughter and I were out shopping. I had picked up some items and went to do something else any way she paid for my items so I took her to lunch. We went to a place she is familiar with and I have eaten there before. The breakfasts are good, but It is very cold here and we wanted a good soup. We decided on Chicken and noodles. Never again. Their potatoes tasted like instant and the noodle soup was like canned soup, too salty and not redeemable at all. This was put over a baking powder biscuit that was not good either. It was listed as home made. Our server couldn't even tell me what size the juice would be if I ordered a large. Now believe it or not this is a well know chain in my area. My daughter ate hers but I couldn't eat it.

Around here, and remember, I'm in Texas, they bar-be-que about anything, turkey, ham, chicken - but they also ask if you want sauce and offer to put it on the side if that's what you want (I don't care for sauce so don't get it) but BBQ sauce shouldn't be BLAND!

Can't say that I have. However I was disappointed with Red Robin. After all the hype of the commercials we went there for lunch. While it looked nice and the people were nice, I thought it was expensive for a hamburger joint. The "gourmet" burgers really did not impress me. The sauces were just about the only thing I could taste. The burgers and friends seemed tasteless. Don't plan to go back.

hi its the pits when you go out expecting good food and its anything but good. After you have already paid for it and get home with it. I do not like McDonald's which may make some up set. I once had their on sale hamburgers and they looked like they were made for a doll and greasy and almost tasteless. very thin overcooked hamburger that was almost crunchy. I ate one and threw the other in the trash. Even their fries were limp not crunchy and those they always brag about. that cured me of going to McDonald's again. the few times I eat hamburgers I will go back to Burger King again.I never was sold on McDonalds and rhat meal clued me in why. lol lol.

I didn't expect great food, but I expected better... I can't say I eat at McDonalds any more, when I was in college it was about the only place nearby - tho most of the time their fries are okay I really like fat "steak" fries rather than those skinny reconstituted sticks, but all things considered, they are better than no fries, I guess - if the rest of the meal isn't bad, like we went to Sonic twice today, just because we had to eat and it was there...

Too many times to mention! But I will... Elic, do you recall that pancake place we went to in South Austin which had what they called potato pancakes on their menu, but what we got was regular pancakes poured over a few re-hydrated hash-browns that adhered to the bottom?!? I was appalled! It was weird.... I guess I might have overlooked it had it not proclaimed itself a special restaurant for pancakes, for pity's sake! In London, there was that weird restaurant I told you of which J. & I tried, which had something they called a tossed salad, but which was full of white cabbage & much closer to coleslaw, with mayonnaise in it, yet (eeuw...), & let's not even get into what they do to "iced" tea. I suppose I could forgive that, since it was England, after all, land of hot tea...still...this particular restaurant was located very near the city's largest train station, & should've been aware of other nation's cuisine, yet it was as if they'd never met an American before! In a quieter, off the main path, non-touristy little diner, I was surprised at having to ask where the ketchup was for my fish & chips. Turned out there was only one bottle, & it was currently in use by the only other customer. The manager/cook actually had to ask him if I could borrow it! And it wasn't like thick American tomato ketchup, either, but watery, & it had seeds in it. I was not upset, rather I was amused, & I love seeing different customs. Why travel if you don't want to do that? Sometimes it's the service that stinks, as with that chain restaurant (Denny's?) in Houston after the convention you & I had attended. I'd had such a great time I just laughed off our waiter's shenanigans, such as lying down in the booth next to ours & talking to us about his concerns, or the salad I ordered in which I discovered the broken plate shard... Or consider the midnight run I did once at a Steak & Eggs diner, in which the ONE poor schlub was running everything, & the place still had steak, as I recall, but had run out of eggs! Half of its product--gone!! The sink was buried under dirty dishes, & I felt sorry for him. I offered to help for a while to get him caught up, in exchange for a free meal, & he unhesitatingly said, "Oh, yes! Thank you! Then there are the many restaurants I've visited which simply didn't know how to prepare their dishes. Perhaps the worst was a small Chinese restaurant in Houston. I was craving Chinese, & was sooo disappointed at the haphazardly prepared foods. Since when are egg rolls supposed to have very little filling--so much so that the wrap went around it twice, & they were dry & hard! I could go on, but my desk would tip over if I did, so, bon appitit, mon amis! Maggiepie "Politicians & diapers have one thing in common. I do agree that you seemed cursed with finding the worst meal to be found... You do recall that the night of the convention and the plate shard was also the night Howard parked us in the ditch! That's a WHOLE discussion all its own!

Oh, yes! I'll never forget that time! Car half flipped over in one of those 8 feet deep Houstonian ditches, water & GIANT mosquitoes rushing in, & how hard it was to climb out of that seat! And that was right before the restaurant. Some shortcut, Howard! LOL! You gotta KNOW I was still high from that great time at the con for ME to not care if I were mosquito-bitten! Had I not sold so many of my drawings, or been considered for a prize by the costume contest judges, or had Theodore Sturgeon tell me he wanted to help me become published, I'm sure I'd have been my usual grumpy person. (BEG) You know how I hate mosquitoes! But I wasn't going to bring it up here, since it's irrelevant to this thread. But never mind! Thanks for the memory! I went to place called Planet Wings that everyone said had great food. Well...forst of all..we waited FOREVER and then when we finally got our food..my philly cheesesteak was cold and just gross. Just the way it was made. It was more of a party joint..I'm thinking that by the time people were eating..anything must have seemed good.

That's a shame, I really would've preferred an Italian place myself, but the roomie didn't want it. At least you got your money back... I mean, over cooking the pasta? Generally I have more of a problem of them under cooking it, since I don't really like it the way they say it should be, but I want it to stay together and over cooking means it becomes mush! Should'a gone to IHOP, that's where we had been going before the change in plans! Not really much I can eat at McDonalds these days, I go to a burger joint, I want a better burger!

I remember this one restaurant my co-workers and I went to. It was a new place and I mistook it for this Singaporean restaurant I have read about in the internet that had good reviews. I was so embarrassed because the grilled chicken was bad and the pasta was watery. As it turned out, it wasn't the restaurant that I read about. I have never felt so bad in my life because I told my co-workers that I read about the place and they know that I do go out often with friends to try out different restaurants since I am a foodie.

I can't say that I've been to such a place although there have been parts of a meal that weren't the quality what I expected. I remember a place in Florida called The Pig that had the best BBQ I've ever tasted, aside from my dad's. It's all in the sauce and, of course, lean meat without a lot of fat. You kinda roll the dice when you eat at any restaurant. My dad likes KFC every so often and sometimes the chicken is delicious and other times we can tell it's old and has sat there awhile. I solved that by asking them for the freshest possible for my 90 year old dad--works every time!

my biggest problem with KFC is that they don't always have the roasted or grilled or whatever they are calling it this time and I don't eat fried chicken... never really liked it. my dad would sometimes grill things, but while he was a trained short order cook, he was a "damned yankee" and BBQ wasn't on the menu!
