I am on vacation this holiday week. I had one weeks vacation left and I decided to stay home. My daughter from California wanted me to come out there but I spent a week with them in April in Wisconsin. My daughter from Germany is going to be in South Carolina for my grandson's graduation from basic training and she wanted me to fly out there for a day with her. They are only going to be out there for two days then back to Germany. I said no. She had the opportunity to come home last summer and passed on it. And I am spending three weeks with them in Germany next June. So I just wanted to stay home and get a few things done. Well I am going to clean and was going to paint but now I am having 8 people to my house for Thanksgiving so I don't want to start painting then have to quit and clean up for a day, so the painting can wait. Today I am cleaning the upstairs then going shopping for a few new things for the house. Tomorrow I am cleaning the downstairs throughly, Wed. I am making my turkey etc. for Thanksgiving....then Thursday having company....Friday my granddaughter is coming to stay...then the weekend and I'll be back to work. Vacations go way too fast! Do you like taking "staycations"?

When you work full time....well staying home is a blessing...Like I said I am going to Germany for three weeks in June.....and I am not looking forward to it. To see my daughers I always have to get on a plane...sit in airports...I am getting tired of it.

That's true, but if one was to be at home all day, doing school work on the computer as well as other internet sites because there is no transportation, then a break would be away from here and without doing chores.. I think my husband is like you, he works, so his idea of a vacation is to stay home, but guess what? I end up cooking and cleaning while he lies around in bed, that isn't fair..._

I actually think that I prefer staying at home and having a bit of a break than going on holiday sometimes. Because I work from home, there are often things in the house that need doing at any one time, and this can mean that I get a bit behind because I usually just concentrate on work and nothing else. I like to take a couple of days away from my laptop and tidy the whole house from top to bottom, as I can then start work again knowing that my house looks fantastic and that it is something that I can be proud of.

Sounds like you are really busy during your time off work. As I get older I prefer to stay home instead of traveling. Hope you had a great time Thanksgiving and enjoy your time with your granddaughter today.

We rarely ever go anywhere so all vacations are staycations. I'd like to be able to travel sometimes.. but of course need the money first and it's not cheap to travel with 5 kids. I actually have 2 days of vacation time coming to me before the end of this year. It's time I've earned since I started working my new job. I will probably take those 2 days in one of the first couple weeks of December. I'll use those days to just relax, catch up on school work if I still have any (school ends in 2 weeks so it might be done before I get my days off), and catch up on cleaning and laundry. Then I get 2 weeks of vacation next year! Yes, I love my new job! LOL

Staycations are nice. You can do what you want. Whether you invite someone over or not. You can get things done that you have put off time and time again. Sometimes it is just nice to hangout at home and just catch up on things or just take it easy. Now if you don't answer the phone or door it will be a real staycation, LOL. Enjoy your time off.

Sounds like a very productive day. Now just get those presents wrapped before you have to go back to work, lol. Enjoy the rest of your staycation.

I've been a stay at home mother for the last five years and because of the fact that I spend the vast majority of my time at home, I don't like the idea of a staycation at all. We also haven't been able to take a vacation away from home for the last four years because of tight finances, so what I want more than anything in the world is to be able to take a vacation away from home.

I know the feeling. Sometimes the best holidays are the ones you spend at home.

I like staycations - you get a chance to rest relax and get things done you normally wouldnt at home. I find going on vacation you need to go to work just to get a rest from your trip!

We haven't had a go away for a week kind of vacation for a long long time. I think in the past fifteen years we've had a few weekends away but mostly we'll stay home. Sometimes we like to do stuff at home or go to local places. We are lucky that there's all kinds of things to see and do within a couple of hours drive so we are trying to exhaust those. We went to a local (less than an hour away) Cathedral last week. I hadn't been since I was a child and DH had never been. It's crazy, it's a beautiful, peaceful place with more history than you can shake a stick at yet people often don't go to what is on their doorstep.

We have alot of things handy too! And I know tons of people that don't take advantage of them. Like just a couple hours from here is a beautiful place called the Grotto.......man made and beautiful!

I love your use of the term 'staycation.' I also have an interesting use of the English language, such as having a 'groovymungous' time. At Christmas this year being over I hope to have a quiet 'staycation' with my family and hopefully a relatively inexpensive one as we are not planning on being over extravagant in the exchange of gifts. The important thing is to enjoy each others company! As I have not been able to have a summer holiday earlier in the year due to ill health I am hoping I may be able to go away for a few days during the school holidayhs in February with my partner. I think it would be a lovely way to spend valentines day if were away somewhere romantic some miles from home. As yet I am not sure where to go but I think it will be best to keep things simple and perhaps not go so far as to leave the country but go somewhere with good shopping facilities, culture and food. If anyone has any good suggestions within the UK I would be interested to hear them.
