Mom will be mad

So a few days ago, Dearra says to me, "guess what, Aunt Karin got her masters degree. Dad said you'd be mad. When I asked him why, he said you'd be jealous. I told him that was stupid." I said, "I'm happy for her." "That's what I thought", said Dearra. So I went onto her Facebook (she's R's sister, but we get along fine), and said "Congratulations on the advanced degree. You are now smarter than me, your brother and 99/10ths of the planet." She got on a few days later and said, "you are funny". So I replied, "Funny is what Dawn's do best. But seriously, congratulations, lots of hard work!" She replied, "yes, I did work very hard, and now I can teach children to read better. But you are the smartest person I know." Well. So I told her it was genetic, as my parents were the smartest people I knew. Jealous, bah! Silly man.

What?! Just like Dearra said, I thought that his comment was stupid too! We all know R has gotten quite a few things wrong - and here's yet another example. I don't get why he thought you would be mad - that IS silly - as I don't see you as a person who would get jealous over a person's achievements. If anything, Dawn does applaud hard work that deserves an applause - omg, he should know that about you by now!!

Good to know Dearra knows you way better as "dad" does. That must be a big relief to you.

I think it's more a reflection of his low opinion of me.

Silly man to be sure. And who wouldn't be a little jealous of this accomplishment. I mean really?! Ego enters into it with some people but for me I am alittle jealous when I hear of these things. I would love to have a degree in literature. I think her wanting to teach children to read better is great. Cudos to her!

I can attest to the fact that having a master's degree doesn't translate to being smarter than others. Even having two master's degrees doesn't. Trust me, my boyfriend is busy right now proving it. It's great that your former sister-in-law has her master's degree now, though. It will help her in her field and make her more appealing if she ever decides to change jobs.

I think its funny how men think they know how we will react in every situation...usually their wrong. Lol. My husband tells people I will do one thing and I do the complete opposite in reality. I always tell him you think you know me so well but it turns out you don't. Lol. Congrats to Karin! I hope it helps her in the future with getting a good job. =)

She's working as a teacher now, plans to keep on doing that, but the degree will help her get paid better.

Don't listen to him. It is silly to be jealous because someone is smarter in one way. There are things that my friends can do, that I cannot and things that I can do. The thing is that we all wish we could do what the other person does and feel because they can sew a dress in no time flat, do mathematical equations that we are upset because we are lacking in those measures.

Well that is not a very nice thing to say. Of course, it could be a whole lot worse but still kind of a barb. Mike actually had the same thoughts as I did...He should not be putting you down to the kids. You said Dearra didn't take it that way so thats good.

Way to go! Another victory for the women. Anyway, congratulations for your relative's graduation and so timely as well since times are so challenging. I hope that she will be able to land a job of her choice. Shows how men can be so condescending when they can only think inside their pants. Again, great job!

hahaha maybe... Course he told me after we split up, maybe now he'd find a woman who appreciated the housework he did. Note to both of them: I did appreciate it. It was other things I didn't appreciate. And now I've got a guy who helps with that AND takes me as I am. So there. lol

A lot of people encourage me to pursue a higher degree in education, so I can find a better job and make more money than the current job I have right now. I have thought about it too, but I definitely need a practical skill, and go for what I want to do. I am interest in programming, and I am self - educating myself everyday. Hopefully, I can get a degree that is suitable for me.

Well, I have couple of things to say. for one, A master degree won't make anyone smart nor the any other degree and certificate do, It just depends on that person who had that degree. now for two, What the hell should we discuss here. there is no question, no problem, no opinion and no other thing to discuss.

Well now, one person felt that my ex was jealous, another said he was finding a way to bash me to the children, and so on. Without a question, a problem, an opinion, etc., we have managed to have a discussion.

It sounds like she got all the smarts for herself and her brother. I think lots of people are much smarter than a degree indicates.

Well, in front of a person who takes his degree, first you have to compliment her and be happy. I think it is absolutely wrong be jealous. I have known many people who have completed their studies with a degree and I have always congratulated with them. I could graduate, but already for me to take the 5-year diploma (awarded in 1997), it was not for me easy. you can understand, my intelligence is very limited. With this, I do not envy any doctor

Some people are just so silly. I would say they start out from themselves, hahaha, like how they would feel if they were in your shoes :D. It's kind of stupid - I mean, why would someone be mad for someone in their family achieving something? Or why would someone feel really sh.tty if they don't have a master's? I don't get it. You did the right thing, and you are really funny and humorous, I liked your congrats joke!
