One of my favorite things when we go out to eat is trying all the different kinds of potatoes. I love hashbrowns, tater tots, french fries, seasoned fries, steak fried, breakfast potatoes, baked, mashed, twice baked, augratin and scalloped. I think my favorite is probably hashbrowns. I like them very crispy and browned. I don't like them if they're not cooked good no matter how you fix them. \WHat's your favorite way to fix potatoes?

That is a hard question. I like the hash browns the way you do. I like them quartered and boiled in just a little water, add butter and sprinkle with dill weed. I think that is Scandinavian. I most often eat them just nuked. I like sweet potatoes, too. I more often will eat a potato than I will eat pasta.

I heard someone call someone else a dill week. How the heck did that become an insult instead of just a food additive?

I fixed candied sweet potatoes the other night. Ummm....peel and cut them into bigger bite sized pieces, then bake them in just a little water for about 30 minutes. Add some butter and some sugar and cinnamon and then put them back in the oven until the sugar becomes crispy on top of the potatoes!

I am not a huge fan of potatoes. But, if I had to choose my favorite it would be baked. The skin has to be crispy. I turn the potato onto the plate and add salt, pepper and butter. Then I put a pat of butter in the skin and let it melt.

I don't particularly like the skin on a baked potato. I do like them if they are quartered and broiled with seasoning, or even pan fried with the skins on. I have to make sure all the bigger eyes and bad spots are cut out before I will eat the skin.

I like a good baked potato the best! With sour cream, butter (or rather "heart smart" spread.. or lo cal ranch dressing.. But also like what is called around here "home fries" which is fried potato slices.. I'll make some of these and add them to tator tots or fries, when I've got just a few left in the bag..

I love homemade potoate slices! I found a recipe a couple of months ago that useds them with the skin on, sliced and then you shake them with flour, salt, pepper and garlic and onion powder. Put them on a baking sheet with some oil and throw them in the broiler in the oven for about 8 minutes. emm...

I don't eat them often, because my favorite way to eat them is fried! And that is not good for me at all. There is this diner close to me that occasionally I'll meet my dad for breakfast at. They make the most delicious hashbrowns. I promise, mom and pop restaurants beat chains any time. : )

Twice baked are when you bake the potatoes, then pull out the potato from the skin, mix it with cheese, sour cream, milk...depends on taste...then put it back into the skin and bake it again. VERY GOOD

My roomie has started fixing pork with potatos and onions on the stovetop and its kind of a cross between fried and steamed and with the onions, herbs and meat juices, just yummy.

ooo..that does sound good. I've got almost an entire pork loin in the freezer that was left over from Valentine's banquet at church. I need to try and find something to do with it before freezer burn gets it! I may pull it out and put do some for dinner...as soon as we all get over the flu bug we have.

It really depends on the dinner I'm fixing, to be honest. If I fix meatloaf or something similar, then I like to make mashed potatoes from scratch (instant isn't really my thing, though I'll go with it, and dress them up, if I'm feeling lazy enough). For the mashed potatoes, I like to boil them until they are really soft, mix them with milk, garlic, butter, cheddar cheese, and a couple pinches of salt. Yum! If I'm fixing chicken or steak, I usually prefer the little rosette potatoes with butter, rosemary, garlic, and sea salt, baked or broiled. But, I could also go for a nice big baked potato with cheddar cheese (preferably sharp), bacon, and sour cream. An interesting way I've found to fix tater tots, is to make tater tot casserole. I don't know if you have ever heard of it? I know quite a few who haven't. The bottom of the casserole pan is lined with cooked tater tots. On top of that is a layer of browned ground beef, and a layer of cream of mushroom (or cream of chicken) soup. You could also mix the beef with the creamy soup, if you'd prefer, rather then layering the two. On top of that is another layer of tater tots (although, I like to put some shredded cheese between the meat/soup layer and the second layer of tater tots). On the top of that second layer of tater tots, you put some shredded cheese, usually. Cook that in the oven for a bit, at about 350 degrees. Basically, just until warmed and the top layer of cheese is melted. Because, you really did cook everything before layering it up. Some people don't cook the tater tots, electing instead to have them cook while in the oven and already layered. Although this is the much lazier way to do things (and I am a big fan of lazy), it doesn't come out tasting nearly as good.

I do know what tater tot casserole is! I don't fix it much, because I can't have cream of mushroom soup (Food allergy to mushrooms) I hadn't thought of doing it with cream of chicken!

Mmmmmmmm, pangeacat, that tater tot casserole sounds really yummy! I'm definitely going to have to try that one. I don't know what they do when they make tater tots, but I love those things!! Thanks for sharing :-)

I love tater tots---MOST OF THE TIME. I got a bag at the store a couple of years ago because the girls wanted some for dinner with hot dogs. I cooked them for dinner that night, and the kids started eating before me. After one bite, my son who was about 13 at the time came back into the kitchen from the diningroom and said "Hey mom, these tater tots are gross." They weren't made with minced potatoes as most tots are. They were made from almost a mashed potato texture. James was right, they were nasty! I ended up throwing a five pound bag of potatoes away because no one would eat them!

I think I like fried potatoes the best, but I will eat them any way they're fixed. I like potatoes lots better than noodles. When I fry potatoes, I do it the way my Mom did them...I slice them about a quarter of an inch thick in slices, then pan fry a little bit with a dab of bacon grease on the bottom of the skillet. Then once they're browned, I add a tablespoon (about) of water, cover and let them cook. Then once they're cooked a little shy of fork tender, I add a few bacon bits, some parsley, spices, and then let them finish cooking with the lid off. Yum! My next fave pick would be baked potatoes, or those twice baked ones with cheese.

I always have been a bacon grease saver. While I don't use a whole lot in cooking, it seems it only takes a minimal amount to totally change the flavor in a meal and make it tastier. We only buy bacon every couple of weeks or so, and then I only add a cooked strip into a meal (diced up.) I know they say too much bacon isn't good for you, so this works ok for our family. (Lucky too that I have a low cholesterol despite my bacon eatin' ways lol.)

My son's favorite meal is fried potatoes, with ham, pinto beans and rice. I don't care for fried potoates cooked in oil They are just much much better with bacon grease! So many don't save their bacon grease anymore.

I know they say that it isn't good for you, but I do love it so! My cholesterol is also right where it should be, so I don't feel too guilty about indulging occasionally. We don't eat it often, but occasionlly, I will do a breakfast for dinner meal, and it generally includes bacon and eggs or pancakes and bacon.

I like slicing potatoes really thin and lay them out singly onto a plate and spray butter on them, I put them in the microwave for a few minutes and then turn them over and spray them again and add pepper and put them in the microwave again for about 5 minutes, I then top them with cheese and sour cream.

That sounds really good. The cheese and sour cream would make them taste much like a baked potato! I'm going to have to remember this the next time I'm looking for a quick and easy veggie plate at dinner.

My favorite way to prepare potatoes is to "bake" them in the microwave. Serve with butter and sour cream. Chilli and cheese is also a yummy topping and makes a main dish. The reason that is my favorite way is because it is the easiest way. I like potatoes just about anyway you want to fix them.

Baked potatoes are always a good plan. Especially if you are in a hurry, need a quick snack or side dish or even if someone has been sick and needs a bland meal to help them get back on solid foods after a stomach ailment. That's always a time to do a starchy item like simple buttered rice or a plain baked potato with just a little salt and butter.
