Barbie goes to the dark side

I am almost certain that is the only ones that will buy this model.

Cute! I think Barbie has sunk to a new low. I am sure some of the collectors out there will want them, but I think more guys will want them or the comic book collectors.

I would buy this doll for a child, certainly. Have you seen the crap that they television shows these kids? The doll is so tame. My teenager asked me a moment ago what was all the fuss about, she doesn't see a single thing wrong with that doll

You child may not have seen anything wrong with it because she sees this as acceptable. Many of us, do not see this as acceptable for a child. What is next Barbie - the dominatrix?

As an old geezer I can tell you that all the young girls I knew that played with Barbies did not grow up to be squeaky clean by any means
I think people are just making too big a deal out of this. The Barbie looks harmless to me compared to the silliness of say, Angelina Jolie in the movies, but kids all seem to like her characters

It is scary, can you see the little girls that play with Barbies wanting to dress like this. She did have an unrealistic body and my understanding is that they have changed her proportions some, but this is too much. WOnder if her belly button is pierced?

I think what toy companies are trying to do just like television is that they want to cash in on hte latest fad....its all about the money, Just like McDonald's putting a Chinese slogan for the Olympics in favor of China and only China...comapnies are going to cash in any way they can

I agree, no kid of mine would play with this. I have to wonder what the manufacturers are thinking. We have people screaming about poor Harry Potter, there will be toy burning over this.

I tend to be conservative and really wonder about the value of giving them to 2 and 3 year old kids, but this should not be given to kids at all. I have never heard of a male collecting Barbies, but I am sure they are out there.

I was thinking more like motorcycle riding clothes??? I also have never seen a comic that had a character like that. I love the look of the second one they had on that link. Now that is barbie.

Yes, I learned how to sew on the sewing machine making doll clothes and many of them were scraps of fabric of what I was wearing. Trust me there were no black fishnet stockings or leather jackets in the repertoire.

I am glad you did stop and look at the link. This gave you a better idea of what I was talking about, the second doll was more Barbie-esque. Though she is still a bit out of proportion for a healthy body image.

Honestly? no, it would just be something for me. I am not weird or anything though, its just that as a child I loved my dolls and hated having to grow up and not be able to have them. I have quite a few unusual barbie dolls and one or two limited editions that I have bought for my enjoyment. I also like things that are a bit different.

She is scary. I definitely would not be giving this doll to my daughters if I had any. One time i was a Barbie that was a doctor, that one I would give. One like this is not one that I think kids should aspire to.

You said exactly what I was thinking.

The question is.. you know it looks like a dominatrix, but does your child? She would not think anything about those clothes because she doesn't have yet anything as a reference to what it looks to us. For her it would be just a doll, maybe with strange clothes but a doll. We as adults are the ones that are inferring from what we know, but a child would not.

Kids are smarter then you think. If you watch things like Law and Order and the kids are within distance, they are pretty knowledgeable. They maynot have a fill understanding, but soon enough they will put 2 + 2 together. And if you think of the 10 or 11 year old age group, they know a lot!

Here, I found a link to this old story. The guy sold about 100 dolls and has some even more interesting Barbie creations it turns out.

But how many kids would get the idea they want to dress like their new barbie doll. I think this is pretty inappropriate for kids. I don't care if they understand or not - they will want to emulate.

That is true and just a few years ago, they changed her proportions so that young girls would have a more realistic body image.


This is definitely not a child's toy, for adult collectors fine I just hope it stays in the hands of the adults.
