2. gwoman2 (188) | 4 weeks ago | Hi Dfollin, I agree with you 110%, I wouldn't do this to my daughter either! I don't understand how the government can make a law that affects people, especially children, in physically negative ways. Go to oprah.com and follow her links to Dr. Oz...he knows all...give it a try maybe it'll help... Also, you should write your congressmen, legislators, senators, and finally the president himself...did you know that you can send them e-mails? Check it out, go to your counties website and the info on how to do this should be there. Good luck and don't back down!! ~G~

dfollin (1386) | 4 weeks ago | They made it a law, just like a law for the other imunazations that there is for kids in school.
| |
mommyboo (1245) | 4 weeks ago | Isn't there a way to exempt yourself, just like with other immunizations? I know for a fact you can decline immunizations for your children based on religious or personal beliefs, and the school does have to accept it. They aren't always HAPPY about it but they do it.

3. bamakelly (1272) | 4 weeks ago | I have seen some of these commercials, however I am not sure if you actually mean something for cervical cancer. But your concern that is raised I can understand either way. By hearing the reports you are speaking of I would have to agree with you about worrying about the side effects. What will happen if you do not abide by this law?

5. peavey (1866) | 4 weeks ago | Forcing people to do things that are dangerous means we have a government that is out of control. I would not allow my daughter to take these shots either. Please do contact your senators and representatives, and anyone else who can make a difference.

6. bbjwlsn (134) | 4 weeks ago | I haven't seen the commercials, but I have heard of this product. I agree with you; I would NOT force my daughter to get the shots. The risks inherent in taking any medicine, I feel, are greater than the possibility that someone will get uterine cancer. What state do you live in? Fortunately, my daughter is now 25, so I don't have to worry about the Gestapo (government) forcing anything on her. If she makes an informed decision to get the shots, then so be it. I hope that this situation turns out in a positive manner for you and your daughter.

dfollin (1386) | 4 weeks ago | Iam sorry about your cousin.I feel that this shot should be an option, but not mandatory like it is in this state. What vacine are you speaking of that causes autism?
| |
ZephyrSun (1046) | 4 weeks ago | The vaccine is called MMR (measles, mumps, and rubella) which is a mandatory vaccine required for children to enter school. It contains a heavy metal (murcury) which is what links it to the increase cases of autism. The CDC released a report this year that 1 in 150 children 8 years old and younger have some type of autism. Now, they would like to research to see if they can link it to the vaccine without a doubt. The problem with health care is so the risks outweight the benefits, sometimes they do and sometimes they don't. My children could survive if they ever "caught" any of the virus that MMR treats, and with the HPV it is very unlikely that a woman/girl/teen will survive it since most do not know they have it until they are in the late stages of cancer. Unfortunately my son has to live with my decision and the states decision for him to get the vaccine.

mommyboo (1245) | 4 weeks ago | I too agree that while something like this should be encouraged (because of the fact that there are little to no symptoms of HPV), making it mandatory is wrong. The government should have no say in personal medical choices we make for ourselves and our families. As far as the MMR, I am thinking they make the ones they use now without mercury, or thimerosol, or something like that. I do not know that I have seen actual proof in a study that it causes autism. I DO believe, however, that if somebody who has a genetic tendency toward developing autisum or another spectrum or behavior/social disorder that something in one of those vaccines might be the deciding factor. By itself it would not be a for sure cause, but it could contribute, certainly.

ZephyrSun (1046) | 4 weeks ago | Well the pages at the FDA have been deemed unreleasable but through other research as of 2008 there are still vaccines that contain thimerosol. The government has not released any studies pertaining to thimerosol and autism, but it's not like the government always fills the people of this country in on things that they feel may lead to panic or other major health and safty issues. The Freedom of Information Act I believe shows us all that, when reports are released under this Act most of the report is blacked out and people are not able to read the document in full. Besides the fact that my family has never had a case of autism until the generation born in the 1990's, which in that set of children born that decade, there are 3 that have been diagnosed with autism. Kind of strange huh? There are many elements that have caused harm to people in the United States and the government knew for years, elements such as: asbestos, beryllium, and lead. I am all for people's right to choose, but when it comes to immunization I don't believe that people should have the right to choose. If they did, our children would still be spreading polio, measles, tetanus, and diphtheria and all the other viruses. If left up to the parents to make a choose, most children wouldn't get their immunization because of the lack of responsible parenting in this country. How many times do you pick up the newspaper or turn on the television and there is a report of a child dying because "their parent forgot them in the car for hours". If everyone in this country was a perfect parent then yes I could understand the government not having any say in our lives, but lets face it there are too many parents that are more worried about where they are going to get there next high than their own children.

8. academic2 (4937) | 4 weeks ago | I think you need to confirm the efficacy of that staement before you turn ballistic on this new medicine-there all sorts of myths about the unknown effects of certain new drugs and some of these myths are unfounded- so let the NDA come out clear on the truth regarding these allegations.

While I believe that you should be cautious about what you put in your body and that no one should force you to to put anything in your body that you are not comfortable with. I also believe myths and rumours should not be spread cautiously. Due diligence is needed here. It is our daughters. Care enough to make an informed decision, not an emotional one. Sorry if this is offensive, just my opinion.

9. thelastwolf113 (1354) | 4 weeks ago | I'd do the same. The biggest problem with pharmaceuticals and vaccinations is that there isn't a long enough time of testing to determine the side effects. Right now, I'm reading an article in Discover, July isssue, about this very thing. The studies that are conducted are paid for by the pharm. company who is marketing the drug. Conflict of interest? Without a doubt. Also, any negative findings are left out of publication so we're only getting half the story. I take NO pharmacopeia and neither does my family, we have alternate methods of taking care of our health.

mommyboo (1245) | 4 weeks ago | Gardasil hasn't even been around very long! There are always a laundry list a mile long of 'potential side effects and complications' to anything, even something like Tylenol or birth control pills. I had to take cipro recently and I had looked up information about that to make sure it was relatively safe. Relatively speaking for ME it was safe! I read all sorts of things that state younger patients should not take it, especially for extended periods because it could cause problems with bone growth and stability in their legs. Wonderful. I had also taken depo provera for awhile and discontinued it when I found out it could contribute to osteoporosis or conditions like that over time, and that if I stayed on it, I would have to think about getting bone density scans. I do not think so, I'm 33 years old!
