Choosing Sarah Palin: Did McCain just Lose the Election? email this discussion to a friend?

Gorcon (81)   ranked 501 out of 5,676 in politics11 months ago

Yeah, so I feel McCain made a huge mistake choosing Palin as his Vice-President. He basically felt he had to counter Obama (with his minority status as well youth) by choosing a YOUNG WOMAN.

However, this backfired I feel as she has no practical experience and could not lead this nation (no offense to the women on this forum), but she has no experience whatsoever. She looks like a soccer mom or John McCain's secretary.

I think Romney would have been a better pick. Your thoughts?

Wow, what a great point! I think that McCain will lose because he is not socially advanced enough as Obama. I think we should have the choice (prochoice) and rights
to run our own lives. Why should someone have to pay for the mistake of getting pregnant and even having a baby when they later decide they should have had an abortion? I think that our country is progressing to the prochoice point in eliminating this problem, and Obama is helping to lead it! That is why I am voting for Obama and going door to door for him! We, as productive members of society, need the right to end any unwanted life whether young or old!! If these thoughts resonate with you, as they do with so many other Obama supporters, vote Obama 2008!

Socially advanced? You consider the ability to abort a full term baby as socially advanced? Have you ever thought about your life? What if your mother had decided you were unwanted and she aborted you? You wouldn't have the freedom to come on here and declare we need to be more socially advanced and be able to get rid of any baby that we don't want. AND, it is offensive to those of us who are older to hear someone your age say that you should have the ability to get rid of any 'unwanted life' whether it be 'young or old'. Does that apply to your parents?

thinkfuture (52)   ranked 5,339 out of 5,676 in politics  11 months ago

Yes, it is a fact that I am socially advanced, and I think most Americans agree that life doesn't really begin until someone is a benefit to society as a whole; in the same regard, life ends when they can no longer benefit society. If my mother wanted to abort me and did, there is no harm or foul; I believe in survival of the fittest. At the time, she would have been the fittest, wouldn't she? It doesn't matter if it is me or another Obama supporter, someone would be here right now saying the same thing; evolution is inevitable, social advancement is inevitable - there is no escape! I am not a hypocrite, as many are: the rule of course applies to myself and my parents, as it applies to everyone. I cannot wait for the day that Obama is President, and we will see this REAL change in our society, getting rid of the leeches that are the unproductive. May the Marxist revolution begin! You should realize by now that most Americans agree with this - it is time to acknowledge that change is inevitable - vote Obama for President and you will see what I mean.

Just out of curiosity where do you draw the line. Children and infants aren't really any benefit to society and neither are elderly or people with certain handicaps does that mean they should be excuted. Because I would not consider shooting one's own parents socially advanced because you deem them no longer beneficial. And I would like to believe that most people would agree with me but perhaps I am too optimistic.

myLot reputation of 96/100. Barb42 (2668)   ranked 53 out of 5,676 in politics  11 months ago

"Yes, it is a fact that I am socially advanced, and I think most Americans agree that life doesn't really begin until someone is a benefit to society as a whole;"

I would doubt that you would get that answer, if you polled everyone in the USA. Sure, there are lots of people who don't value life, but most certainly do.

"in the same regard, life ends when they can no longer benefit society."

No, you are wrong. Life ends when God takes them home. You answer offends me in tha my Mother is 91 years old. She lives by herself in the home where I was born. She may not be able to do things that she once did, but there's nothing wrong with her mind. And I'm sure she'd have something to say about your thoughts here. Just because people don't meet yours or others' standards for living doesn't disqualify them for living!

"If my mother wanted to abort me and did, there is no harm or foul;"

In other words, you wouldn't be here to know it. But, God would know it. He is the reason each of the babies are here. MAN is the reason many of those babies never see the light of day alive!

"It doesn't matter if it is me or another Obama supporter, someone would be here right now saying the same thing; evolution is inevitable, social advancement is inevitable - there is no escape!"

When you remove people from the equation like you want to do, there is no advancement, period. You want a society that is perfect in your own eyes and it won't ever happen. Is this what the Obama people are pressing for?

"I cannot wait for the day that Obama is President, and we will see this REAL change in our society, getting rid of the leeches that are the unproductive."

I pray for the day that he learns he IS NOT the next president. Heaven help the people of America if he does become our president, if his thoughts are like yours.

"May the Marxist revolution begin! You should realize by now that most Americans agree with this - it is time to acknowledge that change is inevitable - vote Obama for President and you will see what I mean."

No, most Americans do not agree with this (what you are saying), although you want it to be so. When people vote for Obama, the CHANGE they will get is going to be something that they haven't voted for!

myLot reputation of 96/100. Barb42 (2668)   ranked 53 out of 5,676 in politics  11 months ago

Runner, you aren't too optimistic. I believe the majority of people believe like you, if we were to take a real sampling of people. Babies have no voice and aren't productive - therefore, in thinkfuture's thoughts, they should be eliminated. Same goes for all those that aren't able to work, the handicapped, those with physical limitations - you name it. There is no end to the people he would like to eliminate.

If we went by thinkfuture's recommendations, we would soon have a world void of our own relatives! I suppose his parents don't mean much to him. He may be the one to pull the trigger when they get too old for him.

myLot reputation of 52/100. djbtol (2232)   ranked 4,095 out of 5,676 in politics  11 months ago

It's very important for Democrats to go door to door and guard the right of a mother to murder her own child. As Obama himself said, he doesn't want his daughters to be punished with children. Kill, Kill Kill!

With Obama in office, infanticide will finally become legal. The end of the terrible two's is almost in sight. Remember to take pictures of aborted babies when you go door to door.

Gorcon (81)   ranked 501 out of 5,676 in politics  11 months ago

haha, so according to thinkfuture's logic we could "abort" alot of stupid people right now...like Paris Hilton and Britney Spears, I don't think anyone would mind that...:P

"Yes, it is a fact that I am socially advanced, and I think most Americans agree that life doesn't really begin until someone is a benefit to society as a whole; in the same regard, life ends when they can no longer benefit society."

I am sorry to have to say so, but that statement just reeks of stupidity. So in your thoughts, a child of any age can be disposed of if the parent deems that they are not "a benefit to society" and that when we grow old and in your eyes "no longer benefit society" then we should be put down like a horse with a broken leg!

Thinkfuture is not what he/she seems. I don't believe for one moment that this new person really believes what they are saying. More like, they are trying to do the opposite of what they are professing to believe. This person is no liberal, and no democrat. Just a phoney wasting everyone's time and trying to stir up trouble.

thinkfuture you said "I think most Americans agree that life doesn't really begin until someone is a benefit to society as a whole".....NOT this American. What a load of crap. Normally people do not show what benefit they are or are not does not occur until they are adults. Are your therefore implying that human life has no right to exist until they are adults? What are you going to do with all the young people until they reach this milestone of worthiness? Your type of thinking makes me ashamed that I was until now a registered democrap..oops meant crat (a Freudian slip perhaps)

Fitness in Darwinism is hardly defined by the species themselves. Actually aborting a baby goes against Darwinism because it decreases the chance of genes being passed on.

So I wouldn't call it advanced.

But I do believe that a woman can terminate before the life begins, which is before blood flows through the fetus (IMO). Actually they can even do it illegally if they want, I could hardly care. For you have to ask yourself this question. If a mother thinks that terminating her pregnancy is ok, do you really want that person being a mother?

Regarding her experience, I agree she does not have a lot of it, but what she has done is what I want done for the country. She has stood up against corruption, oil, lobbyists, etc. Obama gave a speech! She will do a great job and McCain may have just signed his own death warrant. I am so glad we have a strong woman with my views thrown into the ring!

thinkfuture (52)   ranked 5,339 out of 5,676 in politics  11 months ago

What is so wrong with corruption? We should have the rights to say things and do things as we please in this country! I think that many politicians use lies and half truths to benefit us in the end anyway. But even then, many politicians are very advanced, understanding that life is about "survival of the fittest." Who are we to judge them? Wouldn't we act the same way if we had the power? I respect Obama because he understands these truths and isn't afraid to project them as president in the future. Obama 2008!

myLot reputation of 96/100. Barb42 (2668)   ranked 53 out of 5,676 in politics  11 months ago

Laglen, I agree with you. It's about time someone got up and spoke for those of us with her views. She's a breath of fresh air, not a Washington insider, and she isn't afraid to speak out. She may look or sound like a soccer mom, but I bet there is a strong constitution behind that pretty face!

I think the Republican party has changed quite a bit over the last 20 years. Also considering that the McCain nomination left many conservatives out in the cold, my guess is that Sarah Palin is going to be well received and quite a tremendous boost to John McCain's campaign.

Regarding experience. Give me a break! Governor of Alaska trumps Obama, the junior Senator.

I think it's a great disrespect to women out there if McCain thinks he can pull on the strings of feminists and say "hey look I have a WOMAN Vice President VOTE FOR ME!"

Just because she's a woman, doesn't mean she's the best vice-presidential candidate or most qualified. We shouldn't clap our hands and get happy just because she's a woman and vote for McCain.

You know, looks can fool you. And looks have absolutely nothing to do with what is in the brain. She has experience as the governor of Alaska. She didn't mind mixing it with the republicans there (yes her party) that were corrupt. She know show to speak and I think she could hold her on with the best of them. But, I guess we will see on down the line. She might just surprise you!

I've been hearing that so many people had thought months ago that McCain would do wonders by choosing her as his running mate. They played one clip last night where one had said a couple months ago that she would be the perfect choice. I hadn't even heard her name mentioned until night before last. But I knew immediately who they were talking about when they mentioned her new baby. People need to give her a chance and listen to her the next 66 days and see for themselves how strong she really is.

I suppose I can agree with you, a woman with 13 years of elected Public office, who fought corruption, has a 90% approval rating in the state that She RUNS, and is running for the #2 spot instead of the #1,has no experience. As opposed to a guy who is running for the top spot who has 13 years of elected office, but no experience in an executive manner. This is an excellent pick, and I believe that it will show through the debates and should McCain get elected thorough history.

Smith, I could not have said it better myself! I believe people are running scared that she might actually have smarts behind those looks! And, I think she does. She sure beats those out there that have already advocated the prospect that she can't do her job because she chose to have her baby that she knew was going to have Down Syndrome. She's going to make a terrific VP pick, and I can't wait for the Biden/Pilan debates!

I totally agree that Sarah Palin is an excellent choice. I believe that she was chosen for the experience she has and the accomplishments she has made - which are many - and not because she is young or because she is a woman.

I truly believe that she can relate much more to the women of America than Hillary ever could - her lifestyle is much more like that of the middle-class wife, mother, and working woman.

I have yet to figure out what people saw in Obama over Hillary Clinton. And, I think he went against his own plan of 'change' when he got 65 year old Joe Biden who has been in Washington so long. McCain actually made the change when he went outside Washington and got a woman who actually knows how to speak and DO what she says she's going to do!

I agree. I have yet to hear anything that I would consider bad about her. People try to bash her but there claims just don't match up with her actions. I wish she was president not vice president but this may provide her the experience she needs to win the next election.

myLot reputation of 96/100. Barb42 (2668)   ranked 53 out of 5,676 in politics  11 months ago

Whiteheather, I don't think I read your mind, but I'm happy to know we think on the same lines!

Runner, I also love your thoughts that she will get the needed experience to become our NEXT president. Who knows; she could be the first woman president in America! There is nothing impossible if we believe! And this woman goes after what she believes in. She's shown that in Alaska. She has an 80% approval rate in Alaska and, to me, that is saying something. I would venture to say she has the highest rating of any governor in the entire 50 states.

Let's see. You're bashing McCain for picking a supposedly inexperienced vice presidential candidate. But that's precisely the argument against Obama, that he's inexperienced. Between an inexperienced presidential candidate and an inexperienced vice-presidential candidate, I'd rather have an inexperienced vice president who will have an experienced president to guide her. Instead of the other way around.

myLot reputation of 79/100. spoiledbrat802 (3405)   ranked 931 out of 5,676 in politics  11 months ago

By the way, I said "supposedly inexperienced" because I think Palin is experienced in executive work, as compared to Obama who's experienced in legislative work. They're running after all for positions in the executive branch of the government, and executive experience should matter.

Spoiled, they were saying those same things last night on Fox News. She has executive experience and Obama only has legislative experience, and not much of that, even though he has 'years'. He has only spent days in Congress since being elected, from what I have heard. She can gain experience during her term as VP in order to make her a better President if the need arise. But, with McCain's health, I think she'd get a good four years of experience which would help her run for President. thumbup

myLot reputation of 84/100. kenzie45230 (2475)   ranked 922 out of 5,676 in politics  11 months ago

The difference in experience is that she has actually been a LEADER and IN CHARGE of something. Obama, as we all know voted "present" in the IL Senate 143 times. And his more recent voting record is pretty non-existant...since he's been too busy campaigning. He speaks well...if there's a working tele-prompter. He leads a good cheer. And while he's talking about change, he takes on a VP candidate who has been Washingtonized for over 30 years. How is that change???

Everyone has been saying that Obama has little experience from the start. It's true. But he can write a book about his life...so it's the only thing anyone checks for facts about him.

TantrooM (52)   ranked 447 out of 5,676 in politics  11 months ago

If you're gonna say that Obama has zero experience in an executive office, then please tell us, what office McCain as held that can be labeled "executive"...?

He's a senator too...

myLot reputation of 79/100. spoiledbrat802 (3405)   ranked 931 out of 5,676 in politics  11 months ago

But that is precisely the point: that McCain made a wise choice in choosing an executive leader as VP running mate. You choose a running mate that brings to the table what you lack. Palin has more executive experience than Obama and Biden put together.

I was a bit surprised on his choice myself (by the way, I'm a woman and I'm not offended by what you said here). I expected a person that could enhance him, basically to help him WIN this election, but from the rumbles I'm hearing, he just handed his election over to Obama. Make sure you listen to something other than the mainstream media. They have been so blinded over Obama that they cannot even report the news first. I've seen lots of comments here and elsewhere that are very favorable for Sarah Palin.

By the way, speaking of the media: They have been extremely focused on the historical significance of a first black president. How long until they get just as excited about the historical significance of a female vice-president? Will they even consider that? We will see.

Indeed, you have to watch many different TV news stations - including the BBC - to get a real feel of what's happening. Today, 2 different news networks actually showed Obama's new ads...as if it were NEWS. It wasn't news, it was propaganda.

To be honest, I haven't been able to check out the media. I still don't know much about her or what have you. I am a bit curious as to how one chooses a running mate in this matter. Since writing my earlier comment, I have seen some favorable and not so favorable things on this lady, but to be honest, I don't know NOTHING about this lady and that isn't personal. just being honest and one more thing. Isn't there ANY other woman Republican out there that can do the job? Anyone if he wanted a woman? And about Obama, I don't know much about him either and I'm still wondering how a man who I just met in 2004 is running for President. But that's just me speaking.

Isn't she governer of Alaska? I know Alaska isn't very populated but to completely disregard the state as relevant is a bit extreme. I still think it counts as some experience. I mean she is running an entire state, it is a really big state too. I know the whole country is obviously bigger but you have to start somewhere. At least has some excutive experience, it is something to go on.

I have a friend in Alaska. He is a preacher and very outspoken. Perhaps I need to ask him his views on this choice. If he had any reservations, I'm sure he would tell me. But I would think he approves of this selection. This woman beat out the governor of Alaska for this job. In fact, that former governor came out third in that election.

I see now on the news that they are trying to link her with the scandals in Alaska's government. They will do anything to try and diffuse McCain's selection for the VP.

Barb if you do some research on Sarah you will be very surprised that what you will find. She has only been governor of Alaska for less than two years, and she has ruled it like a dictator. If anyone disagrees with her, she either fires her, or she demotes them. She even tried to sue the United States government because she wanted them to remove the Polar Bear off of the endangered species list, and they wouldn't. The Polar bears are on land that the state wants to open up for drilling. There are alot of things that people don't know about Sarah, and I am sure when they find out, they won't see her for what they do today.

greatdebater -

Don't fret the polar bears. It has been well documented that the polar bear population is growing faster than it has in years. Not even close to being endangered. The scam about endangered polar bears was created to further the global warming scam. You might say one great scam deserves another, or one lie leads to a pack of lies.

No matter what negative you find on Sarah Palin, I know she is 'clean' compared to what you find in Washington, DC. Remember when stretch Pelosi said it takes a woman to clean the house? She only brought in more corruption.

Sarah Palin deserves a chance and will do fine.

She does not look experienced he only did this to win over votes. But I have to give it to him, he won over some of the woman voters.

It's a dirty move and a slap in the face of all the Hillary supporters, they're not dimwits who vote for any woman. They supported Hillary because of her leadership skills, strength and character. McCain has just lost himself the election by thinking that he will win over ex-Hillary supporters, thinking they're all a bunch of feminists.
