So yesterday was America's Thanksgiving, and Canada had one not too long ago. Do the Philippines also celebrate Thanksgiving? Anyway, did anyone NOT have turkey for Thanksgiving dinner? At my parent's house, our main dish was Dorito Chicken. So chicken was our main course.

We always hate, but I am curious, what is Dorito Chicken? I think of a chicken with dorito chips as a breading, but I may be wrong..

No, bready isn't a word, but breading is, which is what I used..I was thinking along the lines of crushed chips with seasonings and then breading the chicken..But the casserole you mentioned sounds very good..:)

That does sound like a really interesting dish!! I had never heard of Dorito chicken before, but apparently not a whole lot of other people have either!

I don't usually have turkey for thanksgiving dinner. First because when/where I grew up there was no thanksgiving celebration ( there are two celebrations around that time that do have a slight meaning of giving thanks but they're not the same thing).
Although I like turkey, it's not exactly my bird of choice. Usually on thanksgiving dinner we make thing that we like the best, but it's not the big celebration that it is for those who grew up with this tradition. This thanksgiving we had roasted lamb with lemon and herbs. We had only one dessert, and later in the night we roasted chestnuts.

It's actually very easy to make, my friend. If you want I'll message you the instructions.
I love lamb and since we always try to make something we all like on special days, this time we chose that:)
Sometimes we make chicken too. Or duck with orange which is another favorite :)

This thanksgiving day was really special for me as i had got forgiveness from a very good friend, and we become friends again now.

Hi, i am from the Philippines and i am not aware of any celebration for Thanksgiving Day, but i wish we had one. I know that this is a very special day for you there in the U.S. and i am wishing you all Happy Thanksgiving. Here, what counts as important as Thanksgiving to you, for us, is the Christmas Eve celebration which we call "Noche Buena" and the New Year's Eve celebration which we call "Media Noche". Both are special to us Filipinos, not only because it is Christmas and New Year but we see to it that all family members are present. We celebrate them both with the whole family with the most festive mood and food we can afford like ham, cheese, fruit salad, native delicacies, chicken, pork, beef, chocolates, fruits if the budget allows it.If the budget is tight then we still celebrate, in the simplest way but still have the whole family together.

Thank you so much for responding. You have provided me with very interesting information. The more I learn about the Philippines, the more I like it. Could you recommend to me a book about your country and its customs? I would really like to know more.

I had a turkey and ham. My brother had BBQ ribs,My husband has to have a turkey he won't eat any other types of meat for Thanksgiving but the turkey. The only time I don't have a turkey is if I go to my parents house or my brothers. My mom has had a Thanksgiving Mexican Taco/burrito dinner with extras and also BBQ chicken,Pork, and Beef sandwiches. I think I would prefer something else besides the turkey even chicken..

Well hello there Ambie Pam, hope you are well! Has definitely been a while! We had our Thanksgiving here in Canada about a week ago. We had our usual Thanksgiving feast; turkey, mashed tators, brussell sprouts, mixed veggies, salad, fresh baked buns, stuffing, and of course (my favorite part) pumpkin pie for dessert =)
Luv & Hugzz, PurpleTeddyBear xx

Hello AmbiePam,
No, we don't celebrate Thanksgiving Day and so we don't have a turkey day. I think it is only an American holiday. I never heard of a Dorito Chicken? It might be a special dish prepared during holidays. I think you have a lot of guess on this holiday because you are preparing some food. I heard this is much more celebrated by Americans than Christmas. For us here in our country, Christmas is the most celebrated and usually family reunion happened on this holiday.
Regards.

My son and his family went to his wifes side for lunch so I stuck a roast beef in the slow cooker with potatoes and carrots.....so they wouldn't overload on turkey. My son actually wanted a ham but we will have that at Christmas....so we didn't have turkey either!

Well, I celebrated Thanksgiving with my family at my mom's the Sunday before. I did have turkey that day. Then I went with my daughter on Thanksgiving to one of her friends and I ate some left overs that they had, but didn't eat any of the turkey that day.

I actually cooked a ham and a turkey. Even though there are only 3 of us in the family, I like a big spread. Plus neighbors drift in and out throughout the day. Mostly though, I cook so much because of the leftovers. I won't have to cook all weekend, and there's plenty already in the freezer for future meals. Probably I do go a little crazy with the cooking. Living in a warm climate, we haven't had much for over cooked meals since last spring. Besides all of the friends, family and other blessings to be thankful for...I'm thankful for the cooler weather.

I've never been a fan of turkey (too dry). But we actually had a cajun turkey yesterday and it was delicious, and juicy. We had ham too (I love ham!) Lasagna, Cornbread Dressing, Yams, Mac & Cheese cassarole, Turnip Greens, and soooo, much more. we had a lot of company so we had to have a lot

No turkey here this year.. We had a ham and all the rest of the traditional Thanksgiving fare, but no turkey.. We would have had one but this year it was just the two of us, with drop-ins off and on during the day, so our ham was enough.. We normally do have turkey but it isn't always eaten, the ham is always eaten, so we gave up the bird in favor of the pig..

We are in the US, but had pork instead. We all had Turkey the last time we got together to celebrate birthdays. In Oct/Nov we havea few birthdays and so we have a party for all of us at once.1 person likes this

We often have Salmon, but this year no one caught one and so we caved for turkey, which turned out very well. I had bought one last year and so it was in the freezer for a year, I thought I would have to soak it, but no it was just fine.

I live in America and no I'm not going to have turkey for Thanksgiving. My family is celebrating Thanksgiving on Saturday. I had to work on Thursday. We will be having a spiral ham for our celebration of thanks. Now if anyone complains, I'll stick a few feathers in it's behind and say whalla! It's turkey ham!

We're empty nesters and our family is scattered around the U.S. It wasn't practical to get together this year so DH and I decided to eat out. We went to a restaurant and had BBQ ribs for Thanksgiving dinner

We always have Turkey as a choice, but we also always cook a big ham too. that way for those that don't like turkey can have ham instead. I don't think there has ever been a thanksgiving my family has not had a turkey.
