The other day my granddaughter were out shopping. We went to Big lots for her to do some of her Christmas shopping. I had a cart and she had put a couple of items into it. I left the cart and went around the corner to look at some thing. the aisle was a bit small for the cart. When I came back some person was taking my cart. When I confronted her about it she said The cart was just setting there empty. Well I thought may be I left the cart some place else. so i looked around and there were the items my granddaughter f had put int the cart setting on right there on the shelf. Now I could have gone and gotten another cart but it is difficult walking so much. How rude was that. I was really mad when I saw the items we had put in the cart just setting there on the shelf. She was a young woman too and I am an old one.

Yes I agree she was very rude about it. She didn't even want to confess about making a mistake.

That was inexcusably rude of her. I had people take my cart before, with the stuff still in it. I just noticed that it was suddenly gone, stuff still in, just three or four small items. So, I had to start over just to see those people two aisles further with the cart and one bigger item in it on top of my stuff. Happened to me twice. I didn't say anything because I have run off with a cart before that I thought was mine, but had noticed it before I reached the end of the aisle. Stuff like that can happen, especially when it is crowded. However, in your case it seemed that she thought the cart had been abandoned. She took out the stuff and made it hers. Then she didn't want to own up to her mistake. I think you would have understood, if she would have explained that. Some people do leave the cart somewhere in the middle of the store, with stuff in it, and simply leave. Well, what goes around comes around. Karma will get to her eventually;)

She did have me wonder if I had parked it some place else until I found the toys on the shelf near where I had parked it. She could have ask because we weren't that far way. I have taken empty carts that were setting by them selves before too but I looked around and down the aisles to see if some one was any where near it. Have a nice day

That was rude of her. I have had my cart taken accidently before. I have also taken someone elses cart accidently. I would never just take a cart like that and take the stuff out of it, that is just rude.

It is obvious to me as your items were just sitting on the shelf as she was walking away with your cart that she took it. She is a terrible liar. If you're going to lie, at least make it a good one and make it look like you didn't remove the items. I don't get people today anyway. Why would you just take someone else's cart when there is stuff in it and they obviously are right around the corner looking at something. People have no respect anymore.

She had put the items on a shelf in the back of the row. She should have gotten herself a cart to begin with. You never get one item any way even if that is your intention. From now on I'll be hanging on to my cart no matter how narrow the aisles are. Thank you for stopping by. Have a nice weekend

That was very mean of that young woman...and not too surprising during this time of year. People are only going to get meaner the closer we get to Christmas so I guess you might want to make sure someone watches your carts at all times...especially at Big Lots. And I know what you mean about how narrow those aisles are.

Yes Big Lot's aisles are crowded. We almost did't find the toy again my granddaughter wanted. Your right about it getting worse. Look at what happened to the employee at that Wal-mart store. Thanks for stopping by. Have a good weekend.

That happened to me in the supermarket. I had items in my cart and was waiting at the deli counter for my orders to be filled. When I was finished, I turned to put the stuff in my cart and it was gone. That made me mad, because I had to go and get the items that I had already gotten again. What had happened I think, someone thought they were taking their cart, but instead took mine, because there was a cart left there with no one claiming it. Actually, if they did not notice they had the wrong cart, I am sure they were disappointed when they discovered that they had items other than what they wanted in the cart. That women was just too lazy to get a cart of her own, and grabbed the first one she saw, even though there were items already in it.

I have done that before. taken a cart that was someone else's because it was parked in the same place mine was. I'll bet she was surprised with the different items. I'll bet next time she turns away she will look better when she takes the cart. I know I do. It's aggravating to have to go and get every thing again. The carts at the front of the store are easy to get too. Thanks for stopping by. Have a good weekend.

Well if there was stuff in the cart, that means that someone else is using it. That young woman was lying. She was the one who put the stuff back on the shelf and she was also a selfish jerk. She could have walked and gotten a cart herself, but she had to steal one from a nice old lady. That stinks.

Yes she was lying but I couldn't prove it since she removed our items and put them on another shelf. If I had taken someone else's cart and they claimed it I would have given it back. Some people are as you said just jerks.

That was very rude. They should have at least offered it back to you when you confronted them about it. She has no respect.

We were at the back of the store. She just said it was setting there empty. But we had put a couple of things in it. It would have been nice if she had offered it back. Thank you and have a good weekend

That is quite rude, though I fail to see how age is a relevant factor. I think it would be different if you had bought and paid for the items, but if it's a place where people frequently abandon their shopping, I can understand why the lady thought it would be ok to take the trolley. There are some shops near me where it's common practise to just take a random trolley that you come across, because it's incredibly likely that it's just been dumped and the person has no intention of buying the items.

First of all deebomb, let me chastise you...you are NOT an old woman, you are mature and deserve the respect, that you and I were taught, when we were young! We were raised with a whole different set of principles.....and I still don't know why some of our generation did NOT pass this respect/principles on to their offspring! I am not painting the entire younger generations with the same brush, but I do find that a "me/mine" attitude is very prevalent! Sort of "all for me, at all costs," type of personna! I am so sorry this happened to you..and it goes beyond rude! Please have a good weekend...!

That day I felt pretty old. My knee was giving me trouble. I don't think it is the generation that we raised but the one our kids raised. The 20 somethings. They are a generation Of "I want what I want and I want it right now." And "I'm first" regardless. There are some very good mannerly young people out there just getting fewer and farther between. Have a nice day.

Sorry that someone would be so inconsiderate to do something such as that. I don't think I would have been to happy about someone doing that to me either.

Yes, The more I thought about her lying and saying the cart was empty the madder I got. But there wasn't any thing I could do. I'll just have to hang on to the cart next time.

If I were to mistakenly taken a cart then I would have apologized and told the person to whom I took it from I wasn't sure, but didn't think anyone was using it. I was taught better then to scoff or anything like that!

Aww, it's too bad that some people don't respect the elderly anymore. just because you're weak doesn't mean that you should be ignored. One of the reasons why I completely respect my elders is because I know that they've done their part and now it's time to pay them back. i also fear that I will age some day and become old and and feeble as well.

When she took the cart she didn't know who it belonged to but when I ask her about it she should have known that kt was being used as it had things in it and shouldn't have taken it even if the person was young.

The woman probably thought someone had just left the buggy there. I've found buggies like that in the aisles before. But I wouldn't have removed the contents because I thought someone might come back to get it. And, why would you walk into the store and not get a buggy up front if you thought you would need one? That would have upset me, too!

If there are things in a cart you would naturally think that someone was using it even if they weren't right next to it.

I see that happening a lot and really don't understand why. It's not like there aren't enough empty carts in the stores. That just shows a person that on top of being lazy is also selfish. That said I have often taken a shopping cart and start going away with it, when someone calls me and tells me it's theirs. WHen I look I realize that I was not paying attention and that my cart is somewhere else LOL Of course I give the other one back and apologize LOL

it has happened to me. i moved away from my cart, and all the sudden my cart wasnt there. i am not sure who took it, but i just got a new one and continued shopping. maybe the person thought it was one of those abandoned carts with discarded items in it. i have seen carts like that in stores. they dont really belong to anyone and i usually ask around whose cart and stuff this is, and someone says nobody. it was there. so maybe that woman thought it was one of those carts. maybe when u confronted her, she got embarrassed and didnt want to admit it.

Shopping cart - Never leave your shopping cart alone.
Oh no, sorry that happened to you, whenever I shop I usually bring someone with me so if one of us have to look through another isle the other person can watch our cart I never leave my cart unattended or if the aisle is to small I ask a store clerk to watch my cart if I'm shopping by my self but I think it was rude of that person to do that to you.

unfortunately, the "holiday" season tends to bring out the most rude, mean behavior in people while shopping. Of course, they are there all year round, but bunched together en masse for the holidays. And yes, just plain laziness plays a big part. Thankfully , there are good people who show their good sides during the holidays, hopefully u will run into some of them as well. Better luck next time!

It seems symptomatic of what is going in society today. She didn't make a mistake. She purposely took your stuff out of the cart and crafted her lie. I truly believe what goes around comes around, though. One day she'll get her come-uppance.
