When you cook, do you hurt yourself? |
|
In my time I have injured myself more than once. I have cut myself, and I have burned myself. Last weekend I was making caramel sauce, and I splashed some hot sugar syrup up on my cuticle of my right thumb. Luckily it was calloused, so although the blister looked bad, it has been relatively painless. I remember my mom talking about spilling sugar syrup into her shoes as a child. I cannot imagine the pain.

1. dodo19 (4346) | 10 months ago | It has happened that I burned myself, when I cooked. It has happened more than once. But it doesn't always happened. As a matter of fact, it hasn't happened for a while now.

GardenGerty (20570) | 10 months ago | Same kind of thing, I am sure. Where were all the child safety enforcers then?

ElusiveButterfly (9481) | 10 months ago | I was wondering the same thing. Who in their right mind would make a toy that could cause such severe burns. I was fortunate.

ElusiveButterfly (9481) | 10 months ago | One more ouchie for ya. When I was cooking bacon (had a really low cut shirt on w/o support if ya knows what I means!) the grease splattered and hit some tender flesh. That was one cooking incident that I didn't repeat!

4. Nancy312 (123) | 10 months ago | Hi,my friend.Just take care when you are cooking.I also met similar things.Usually it's the splashed hot oil on my arm and sometimes even on my face.Maybe the oil is too hot and the vegetables contain water, then it's easy to splash oil out.So just be careful when we are cooking.Or our skin will be hurt by hot oil or other hot splashed things

5. Grandmaof2 (4375) | 10 months ago | Many times I have cut myself as well but the worst kitchen accident I had was about six months ago or so. I was carrying a large pot of pasta from the stove to the sink to drain it and just as I got to the sink my left elbow ( the one I had dislocated last April ) gave out on me and I poured a lot of the boiling water on my stomach. I let out a blood curdling scretch out of me as I stood there holding my T Shirt away from my skin. Like I said that was at least six months ago and you can still see where I was burnt. The very worst story I have ever heard of was two young girls years and years ago were cooking pork hocks in a pressure cooker. They had taken it off the stove but the pressure had not all realeased yet and here they were pulling and tugging at the lid to undo it when finally the seal was broken away from the rubber ring and the lid went flying, they got burnt real bad and I was told there was pork hocks on the wall and the ceiling as well. Guess those things are dangerous if you don't know what you're doing.

6. danishcanadian (20754) | 10 months ago | I probably would, if I ever went into the kitchen. LOL I hate cooking, but my husband loves it, therefore he does all the cooking. I have had to train him not to hold the vegetables up in the air when he cuts them. I didn't spend all that money on a cutting bord so he could hold the vegetables in the air and cut himself.

| 7. heart98 (52) | 10 months ago | i often injure myself while cooking. Just like you i accidentally get cuts and burns. i often have blisters due to the splashes of hot cooking oil while frying fish or meats or even from touching my hands or arms to hot pots or pans.

GardenGerty (20570) | 10 months ago | Please be careful, those things hurt. It is easy to do. Hubby worked in restaurants and says that one of his bosses said any good cook will have burns.

10. CatsandDogs (5171) | 10 months ago | Oh GG, I remember a time when I was in school and I had gotten up one morning as I always did and started cooking my breakfast which consisted of bacon, eggs and toast. I had finished cooking the bacon and was cooking eggs and all of the sudden a loud pop and grease had landed on my shirt and stomach and I screamed blue blazes and of course a slew of cuss words!! Then I realized I was at home! I'm underage and my parents are just down the hall asleep!! Although the eggs were cooking, I was watching like a hawk for one of my parents to come trotting down the hallway ready to tear into me! I was scared out of my mind! But they didn't wake up! I went to school and when I came home, I walked on egg shells for a few hours til I couldn't take it anymore and asked them if they heard anything that morning and mom asked what I meant and I told her oh I dropped my books on the floor and wondered if you heard anything and she said no. WHEW!! I breathed a sigh of relief! LOL Since then, I've burnt myself just as painful but not in the stomach but other places.

GardenGerty (20570) | 10 months ago | Why did you not let her know you were hurt? That could have been a really serious burn. I hurt thinking about it.

CatsandDogs (5171) | 10 months ago | Honestly? Because I was scared of her. She meant well but she was really harsh when I was growing up. I love her to death although still scared of her. It's so hard to explain....

gingerale (176) | 7 months ago | oh!oh!..I've had my share of cuts and burns, too. Two months ago, I burnt my left leg with the edge of the pot of our rice cooker. Stupid of us, we just had to put the rice cooker on the floor. At that time, I was having an argument with my mother and that happened in the kitchen. She said something that really annoyed me and I backed up, and too late for me to realize that I almost stepped on the boiling rice cooker. I hurt my leg badly and even had an infection. Good thin git's healed now but it left an ugly scar. Any idea how to remove my scar? I know I was stupid. I'm sorry.
