When you cook, do you hurt yourself? |
|
In my time I have injured myself more than once. I have cut myself, and I have burned myself. Last weekend I was making caramel sauce, and I splashed some hot sugar syrup up on my cuticle of my right thumb. Luckily it was calloused, so although the blister looked bad, it has been relatively painless. I remember my mom talking about spilling sugar syrup into her shoes as a child. I cannot imagine the pain.

52. Rozie37 (7158) | 10 months ago | I have been know to leave the kitchen with cuts, burns, and maybe a few bruises from time to time. I believe that my worst experience was similiar to your mother's. I was taking some hot cereal out of the microwave, when it spilled on the top of my naked foot. I was in a whole lot of pain. It left a grey looking bubble on my foot for a few days. Finally, I got the okay to stick it and drain it. I never want to experience anything like that again.

53. KrauseHome (13479) | 9 months ago | I have been known to splash Hot oil on me, or Hot water when cooking or burning myself when pulling something from the oven as well. I have also burned my tongue a time or two when trying something that was still too warm so it can make it upsetting for sure.

54. finlander60 (745) | 9 months ago | I have a scar in my left armpit that looks like it was burned or blistered a long time ago. My Mom told me that I pulled over a pot of hot wax that she was using for some home canning. I have managed to slice my left thumb while cutting things up, but it was so slight that it didn't even bleed. I was lucky.

55. finlander60 (745) | 9 months ago | I'm quite sure most of us will not get much out of this comment, but here goes. You can find Kevlar gloves for cutting food in any good cook store. These make it much less likely to cut yourself. You are all welcome.

finlander60 (745) | 7 months ago | You can still get hurt, even while wearing them. It is a lot less likely, though. If I were looking for a pair of Kevlar gloves for kitchen use, I would ask the meat cutter at the grocery store. Good luck.

58. arkaf61 (5728) | 7 months ago | occasionally, yes. It comes with the territory LOL Mostly I cut myself because I am not paying attention to what I do or I go too fast. I have burned myself in hot oil but it is rare. What happens more often, however, is the silly dipping my fingers in the boiling water when dropping something in it, and again just because I am not paying attention. I never let go until I am really close to the water because that prevents splashing, but sometimes I go too far LOL
