When you cook, do you hurt yourself?

Ouch.
I've hurt myself in a small way, minor burns and cuts mostly. Probably the worst one was when I spilled some boiling water on my arm. I got it under cold water right away but it did blister a little.

Oh yes, I have done some real doozys while cooking. In fact just the other day I touched my arm down on the edge of a hot frying pan, I have a straight line burn mark on my arm right now. I am not even really sure how I managed to do that. Probably my worst cooking injury was when I was frying some chicken. I went to turn a peice of chicken and somehow ended up dropping the hot greasy chicken on the top of my other hand. It took a long time for it to thoroughly heal, and I still have a small scar on my hand where it must have burned me the worst. I also burned myself on a dutch oven while camping. The handle to pull up the lid fell down on my wrist, I have a pretty nice scar from that too. I also burnt my arms a few times while working at restaurants, from the deep fryer spitting up at me. The most painful one was when some grease splattered up and hit my pointer finger. It did not look so bad and there are no scars but apparently there are a lot of nerve endings there, and it made my entire body ache, it was aweful.

Often, I hurt myself cooking. Usually it's the oven. I wear oven mitts, good thing too, I hit an oven mitt onto a hot oven broiler coil and in a second, it burned through two layers of mitt. Luckily it was a three layer mitt. Can you imagine if it was a 1 layer mitt or if I hadn't had one on at all? Would have burned down to the bone.

I was taking a grease catching pan out of the oven, I was barefoot, the pan went off balance and I poured some grease on my right food. I threw the pan onto the top of the stove, ran to the bathroom, rinsed off the greace with cold water. Had my hubbie break off an aloe vera leaf. He said we also had a cold pack in the freezer, so all night long and into the next day,I alternated between aloe and cold pack. My foot looks pretty good considering. The skin is a little darker shade like it was in the sun and the rest wasn't, but considering what it could have looked like, not bad. My husband wasn't a believer in aloe, but man is he now.

Hello GardenGerty, I'm not really a cooker per say anymore, but in the days when I in fact did cook, I remember I hated working with foods requiring hot oil because the oil would ALWAYS splash on me no matter how far away from the pan I stood. I especially disliked it when the hot oil would make contact with my face.:(

Could that be the reason why I have stopped cooking so much^.^?

I have made a few boo-boos, but more often I injure myself when I eat. For some reason, although I don't eat out all that frequently, if I am going to lose a filling from a tooth, it happens in a restaurant.

Or I cannot wait for food to cool down and burn my tongue. That one I do a lot, and then have to run get an ice cube to soothe it.

I drop things on my feet, bend nails back and cut myself constantly

and i cannot imagine the pain either. i love cooking and baking. that are the qualities i am so proud of. though i didnt do for a cooking class but still i learn just by watching my mom cook foods and bake cakes, cookies and everything else. but we are not perfect, meaning i got to cut, bruise, burn myself by doing so. even if i am being careful but with simple small accidents, still it would happen right? but i guess that is part of being a cook in your family. lol!
