When was the last time you crafted or made something for yourself? |
|
I made a bunch of hats for everyone else this winter. Someone told me I should make one for myself. I started to, but someone invited another person for X-mas so that went to her. Then I was going to make one for me, but some kids in town needed hats, so I made some for them. I have started one for me, but I don't know if I'll get it done. My brother has a birthday coming up, so I need to make a pillow and some fishes for him. So when was the last time you made something for yourself?

1. angelsmummy (1037) | 8 months ago | This morning, I made my self some shorts as its so hot at the moment and I have no clothes that fit me due to the pregnancy!! I needed to do something!! I dont make alot of things but when I do I demand perfection and it normally takes too long!

writersedge (4493) | 8 months ago | Crafting from necessity is the crafting that is the most necessary. Good for you that you have such talent! Your baby is indeed lucky to have someone like you. But my Mom demanded perfection and it wasn't until she died that I could craft or do much of anything else because nothing was ever good enough for her. While my Mom made the best Barbie clothes on the block (I could look at any magazine and point to something, my Mom could make it for Barbie), she discouraged me from doing anything. Hopefully you'll be a little lighter with your kid.
I'm not perfect and will never be, but the hats warm both them and me, me in the making and them in the wearing.
Thanks for responding. I hope you have a happy, healthy baby. Sounds like you will be making more shorts in your future. When my Mom got old and had had cancer for the 3rd time, I finally heard her say about something she made that wasn't perfict, "Good enough." I almost fell over. Wish she had said that to me at some point. Thanks again and take care.

2. katsalot1 (881) | 8 months ago | What do make your hats from, are they knitted? I make lots of things, usually to use in the house, so I suppose that qualifies as for myself. Last week I made a patchwork cushion cover, and hope to make some more soon.

writersedge (4493) | 8 months ago | A patchwork cushion cover, how wonderful! Good for you! I wish I had such talent. I use a circle knitter or circle loom, sort of knitted. I did start one that I'm kind of weaving.

writersedge (4493) | 8 months ago | Thank you very much for responding, craft on!

katsalot1 (881) | 8 months ago | I have never heard of a circle knitter - very interesting. I will look it up on Google. I have knitted hats, but I'm a very slow knitter.

|
|
writersedge (4493) | 8 months ago | I'm slow, too. Have fun looking them up. I had a discussion with a link to some and I used to, but I don't know if I still do, have a circle knitter on my profile page and some of my hats in pictures on my profile page.

GardenGerty (20571) | 8 months ago | kats, look up provocrafts, they have lots of looms. I have some, like them, but do not use them enough. I need to make this new baby a blanket, cause she is the second, and no one figured they NEEDED any more baby blankets, but my daughter WANTED one for Hallie, so I will make her one.

3. GardenGerty (20571) | 8 months ago | I do not remember the last time I made something for myself. I did, however, go get my hair cut for myself, right before we left town. It helps.

writersedge (4493) | 8 months ago | I think you should make something for you. After the baby blanket of course!

4. peavey (3840) | 8 months ago | That sounds familiar! I'm just now, after knitting for over 50 years, beginning to feel comfortable with making something for myself. At times, I buy gifts for others so I'll have time to work on my own things. Do yourself a favor and make your own hat a priority!:)

peavey (3840) | 8 months ago | I saw that and I'm sorry you're without a job. Only 3 1/2 years... I hope you find something soon.

writersedge (4493) | 8 months ago | Me, too. I'll have to combine finishing out the month with looking for other work.

6. Canellita (3310) | 8 months ago | I have more than enough "stuff" in my life s it is, lol! I made a bunch of scarves at xmas to sell and of course my favorites are gone but I usually set something aside for myself if I can. I rarely make something to have something for me.

writersedge (4493) | 8 months ago | Yup, crafters are givers and sellers, not keepers. Thanks and take care.

Canellita (3310) | 7 months ago | Oh, I'm a keeper, lol. That is one of the reasons I have way too much stuff in my life. Not to mention all the purchased craft supplies and reusables.

7. carmelanirel (6339) | 7 months ago | The last time I made something for me was a banner and that was about 5 years ago. Unfortunately, though I made it for myself, I wanted to use it in worship services, but since I no longer have a place of worship, I just have it hanging up at home..(I did use it though at home a few months ago, but that wasn'[t what I intended it for)

writersedge (4493) | 7 months ago | I have an altar at my home for worship, but unfortunately, it got covered with books! But I started something to help me with prayer and worship-forgot all about it. Thanks for the reminder,I need to get it out from under all the books. To me, I always have a place to worship, outdoors, indoors, everywhere was made by the one who made us and everywhere is a place to praise that one. Take care.

8. ladym33 (5697) | 7 months ago | I don't craft very often, not since I stopped being a Girl Scout Leader a couple of years ago. I have helped my kids make stuff, but I have not really made anything on my own except for Tie Dying a T-Shirt for my daughter for Halloween. The closest I have come to making something for myself in years is painting a ceramic soap dish for my bathroom.

9. carolbee (6809) | 7 months ago | You crochet, right? I remember you mentioning making hats and donating them. I made a stand-up, eyeglass case holder that sits on the table beside the bed. I use it all the time and love it. Always know where my glasses are if I need them. I never have a chance to sit on them or chase around the house looking for them. Another couple of items I made for "me" that are used all the time would be a toothbrush holder and matching dixie cup holder. They are small and fit on top of the bathroom vanity.

writersedge (4493) | 7 months ago | No, loom knitting/weaving, I tried crochet a couple of time, everything I make free hand looks like crap. The hats were from a loom, keeps tension better for me and things tend to at least look like their intended purpose.
Glad you made the eyeglass case, that's very handy for you and very handy of you! Interesting how useful your crafts are. Everything has a place and everything in it's place. Glad you get the opportunity to create and craft for yourself as well as others. I'm still working on it. Thanks and take care.

| 10. Fannie869 (5) | 7 months ago | I have been doing crafts with my grandmother and my mom for as long as i can remember. The things my sisters and I made with grandma as kids always came home with us. Ever since I started getting into my own crafting everything I've made has been given to others as gifts. I did however decide to keep the first large cross stitch project I stitched and charted completely by myself. I found a cute saying on a sign that was hung in the store I was working in at the time and thought it'd be nice to have it stitched and hanging on someone's wall one day. In the beginning I wasn't necessarily making it for myself, but by the time I got it done I had put so much time, thought, and energy in it that I simply couldn't part with it. So, I decided I'd keep it and it would be the first framed piece to go on my wall when I get my own place. Everything I've made since has gone to other people, or will go to them when I'm finished with them.

writersedge (4493) | 7 months ago | Welcome to Mylot! What a lovely story. I wish one of my Grandmothers had been alive to show me and teach me things and the other one had been well enough to do so. Sometimes my Mother had patience to show me things and other times she didn't.
Those times are precious and cherished, I'm sure.
Lovely experience/story of your life through crafts. Thank you for sharing it. I hope you enjoy your time here.
Sounds like a very, very nice stitched wall hanging. It's such a drag that people have to have 500 entries here in order to post pictures. I hope to see your finished crafts here someday.
