Do you have any good ideas as to what to do with someone's old wedding dress?

You could make gloves or purses out of it and resell them. Dare I say make satin undergarments. If you wanted to get artsy maybe make some picture frames and put the satin over them as a cover, I've seen a few of those used for the frames of wedding pictures.

My husband's mother passed away right after we were married. They still had her wedding dress, and when we had our second child, his then stepmother of course didn't want her husband's deceased wife's dress lying around. She had a dedication/baptism gown made for my baby and had a boy outfit made from it for my nephew. Don't know if you are expecting any grandchildren or know of anyone who may be expecting children. I know it might be strange to use material from a dress from a previous marriage, but that is one thought.

Where I live, it's quite common to use wedding dresses to make christening/baptism gowns for babies. I had my first wedding gown boxed up - you know mounted on one of those forms and sealed in a "memory box" and all? But years after the divorce, I just didn't want to keep it any more. I asked both of my daughters if they'd like me to keep it, since some girls do like to go the vintage dress route when they get married, but they said they didn't think so. What I ended up doing was donating the dress to their high school's drama department. That way, it can be used for many years and potentially saves the school a little bit on their costume budget.

donate it to charity!the salvation army just had a wedding dress sale ans it was on the news they raised qite a bit of money and it will go to help the homeless!

I was listening to John Tesh the other night and if you got to his website he has the addresses of website that specialize in selling used wedding dresses. You should be able to get a few bucks for it in the current economy.

If you'd rather not try selling it, and work with dolls at all, you could make bridal outfits for Barbie or bigger dolls. Those things would sell very well. Or you could make Christening gowns of it, too. Endless possibilities:)

When i had my antique shop i had a lady call me about trying to sell hers. I took it in on consignment, put it in the window & a young girl bought it. It was an older one but u might talk to somone who has a store & see if they'd sell it for u.

i don't know whether it's done as a tradition simply over here but we used to use the material from your wedding dress to make your first childs christening gown. Then again that might not be feasable could you not use cuts of it to add to pillows or cover a keepsake book and add pictures of her wedding or even make her daughters prom dress with it or bits of it. I'm mainly thining of sentimental things but i suppose you could always just cut it up and sell the swatch bits as just that bits of material as well as the sequins and beads.

I would check with consignment shops and see if they re sell wedding dresses. Since your daughter doesn't want it. The dress may be help out a new bride who doesn't have the money for a new dress. if the bones are okay, a seamstress could bring it back to life.
