I have a large amount of grilled hot dogs left over from my party on the 4th. We had a few with dinner last night. But there are still so many left in the fridge. Does anyone have a good recipe to use them up with?

I love hotdogs on a bun. You could freeze some of them and save the for other meals. You can also have beanie weanies with them or pigs in a blanket also. You just wrap your hotdog in a biscuit and bake it. You can also fix some corn dogs with them.

Hi Stephcjh, is pigs in a blanket the same thing we know as toad in the hole?

Cut up into some sauerkraut and heat, add to cornbread, make pigs in blankets (someone else mentioned that), use in lentil soup or pork'n'beans, fry them with potaotes and if all else fails, freeze them for when hotdogs sound good again.

Slice up a few and toss in a pot of mac and cheese. Homemade corn dogs of a sort. Make up a box of Jiffy corn bread muffin mix and toss in some sliced up or chunked hot dogs and bake. Tortilla, slice of cheese, hot dog. Heat in microwave and roll up. Add sliced hot dogs to a pot of chili or make some regular chili dogs. Pigs in a blanket.

Try heating some olive oil in the ovem, add the sliced hot dogs with garlic and onions and pour over some pasta for a hearty pasta dish. Or crisp them up and top a crunchy salad with them. You could also add them to cold pasta doused in mayonnaise and black pepper with chopped hard boiled eggs, I sometimes do that with bacon and it lasts a while in the fridge and is a handy snack.

Make a good tomato sauce (diced fried onions, crushed garlic, tomatoes or tomato paste) and add the hotdogs cut up in little rounds. Serve over pasta or rice. By the way, children love this.

Slice up some in an omelette, with tomatoes and mushrooms. Or bake leeks in the oven in a cheese sauce and stir in hot dogs just before the end of cooking time. Make a big pan of mashed potatoes and some baked beans with curry powder and sultanas and serve with the hot dogs. Make a layered pasta bake with cooked onions, garlic and tomatoes on the bottom, then hot dogs, then cooked pasta. Top with cheese sauce and finish off with breadcrumbs and slices of tomato and pepper. Brown under the grill and serve. Hope this helps.

I have seen them sliced and included with macaroni and cheese, and various beans as well, including green beans. Come to think of it, if you have children who don't like to eat their vegetables, adding some hot dog slices may do the trick. Were they prepared by boiling? Grilling or frying them makes them better, in my personal opinion. You can cut them "butterfly style" (down lengthways, but not to make two pieces - it is almost cutting them in half but not quite; the two sides are still together, but can be "unfolded" so that it is like cooking a thinner piece of meat. http://www.wisegeek.com/in-cooking-what-does-it-mean-to-butterfly-something.htm does a better job in describing the process) Anyways, once done and put back together you can add cheese and/or peppers or anything you want in the middle.

My friend, Jeff, commented that leftovers were a good thing. But, I'm on a diet and there's all this fatty salty food laying around. Not exactly helpful.

I have seen some crazy college recipes using hotdogs! I rather liked cutting up the hot dogs and frying them like sausage, then eat them with eggs and maple syrup. One of my old roommates used to slice them up and put them in her macaroni and cheese. Then again, if you become sick of hot dogs and don't want to see them anymore, you could always try donating them to a local homeless shelter. I'm sure they would appreciate the gesture!
