Anything wrong with ordering the child's meal.... even if I'm 48?

I eat six small meals a day. When I do eat fast food, which really isn't much, I order the kid's meal. Some restaurants won't let me order the kids meals. I do not understand why... if I want smaller portions, what it wrong with that? Do you eat the kids meals?

I order the kids meals when I go to fast food resturants with my neices and nephew and I save the toys for stocking stuffers.
I think that they should allow you to order the children's meals or at least bring you a togo box when they serve your meal so that you can put half away for later.

Most fast good places do, most of the time! Usually in dine-in facilities is where they will not allow it at all! But I'm like, if I want a child's portion, who cares??? I did hear though that a dieting techinique is to have them package half of it and bring half to your table. If they package half in a doggie bag before you start, you'll eat less! (twice!!! :) )

I don't order the kids meals anymore. I used to when I was a teenage... i'm 21 now but i don't get them anymore. its not enough food for me now. i did like getting them for the longest time though and my mom would always tell me i am too old to still be order a kids meal lol but i would still do it.
i think you should be able to order whatever you want. if you want a kids meals. you should be able to order it. i think its stupid some place won't let adults buy kids meals. they are still making money. maybe its because sometimes kids meals are cheaper? and they want to make as much money as possible.

Usually, they are cheaper as well as smaller portions. That's why I desire to buy them, I only eat smaller portions most of the time! Some places will allow it and some will not!

Personally, I have always wondered the same thing as well. I know it is easier if you go thru the Drive Thru as they would never really know who it is for, but in common sense they should not question it. I know I have done this before when money was tight, or for a quick snack, but since they question it so many times most of the time I just stick with a $1 menu from these places instead.

Personally this is a Smart way to do it, and some places you can get Apple Slices with them and milk which justifies it a little more for sure.

I do not eat at fast food places much anymore anyway! But I still try to get kid's meals when I do. I figure I get to splurge on some much needed junk foods but I'm not as likely to overdo it with the smaller portions!

I used to go thru the drive thru and get kids meals - I recently went to an Olive Garden to visit with my sister and I asked for the togo packaging and put 2/3rds in it before I ever started eating - I've been on a diet since early June - lost about 20 lbs

Congrats on the wieght loss! Yeah... I heard that putting food in a doggy bag to take home before you even start eating is a good strategy. I haven't eaten out in a long time, so I can't verify if it really works or not... does it?

I almost always order a Happy Meal when I go to McDonald's. I'm just like you in that I eat 6 small meals every day. I have hypoglycemia and need to keep my blood sugar more constant and was advised by a doctor to eat this way. It works, so I've been eating this way for decades.
I also have a small appetite. Sometimes, a piece of fruit is all I need. When I was much younger, I could eat two Whoppers from Burger King, along with fries and a milk shake and not feel the least bit bloated. I was always skinny... my metabolism was just in 'supersonic' mode, I guess. But now, getting older, my metabolism has changed and I eat very little. If I go to Burger King now, I get a Whopper, Jr. at the most.
I'd rather have the kid's meals because I simply don't want more. In the past year, I've dieted by changing my eating habits and refuse to eat that last bite if I'm full. (It worked! I dropped 25 pounds!) I hate throwing food away so I'd much rather get a kids' meal.
Yesterday was my husband's and my fourth anniversary and we went to a restaurant we've never gone to before because we saw a commercial for it and it looked awesome: Golden Corral. It's a buffet. It's the BIGGEST buffet I've ever seen! It has so much great food that I wanted to try a little of everything but, of course, my tummy said no way! The price is good, at least for a normal person and will be even better in 3 years when I officially become a "senior citizen" (at this restaurant that is 60). Usually, buffet's are great if you have a huge appetite... you can get way more than you actually pay for but, for us with small appetites, at least you don't feel like you're wasting your money. (I sneaked some cookies and a brownie into my purse because they looked so yummy but I simply could not fit them in me at the restaurant and they were already on my plate.)
I don't see why anyone would refuse to serve a kids meal to an adult. If anyone tried that with me, I'd tell them that they just lost one customer, then, and I would be writing to their headquarters with my complaint... after writing down their name. (It might just change their mind about serving you!)

congrats on the weight loss and the anniversary!!!
I have been tested for diabetes and hypoglycemia. No signs of either, just symptoms. So I put myself on the hypoglycemic diet and it worked for me. Since it works I have just stayed on it for years. If I stray it doesn't take me long to make my way back to it because of the way I feel! I don't need a huge meal most of the time. When I do pig out.. I don't feel well.

I don't eat kids meals but my wife does. She's a small eater, so each time she goes to a restaurant, she'd try get a kids meal. UNFORTUNATELY, in many restaurants here kids meals are what it mean for - KIDS!!! That means only those under 12 years old are eligible for kids meals. It's not fair, so very often I end up eating part of my wife's adult portion. I guess the reason for not allowing adults to have kids meal is because it's "KIDS MEAL", and they're afraid to break the rules. I know what kinda look you'd get from the server when you tell them that you want kids meal. Sheesh! Some rules are meant to be broken.

I'm all for it! I admit I've ordered a Happy Meal or two way past the age of twenty. I've never tried ordering in a child's meal in a sit down restaurant because I know they won't let me, but they can't argue with us when it is fast food!
And hey, sometimes we luck out and get a toy!

Yeah!!! You gotta love the toys!!!! -- just can't tell anyone. Although the grand kids and neices and nephews may get a little suspicious when I don't share! lol!!!

I dont eat at these places anymore. But when i still did. I was collecting the small stuffed lion king toys that were in the childs meals. Thats crazy they really told you that you couldnt order a childs meal? What if someone could not afford the regular size meals. We have a mc dondals in the metro downtown area here. There are many homeless people that hang out there or near there. What if they cant order anything else?

You have a point. But it wasn't Mcdonalds;... just so you know!! I always get a 4 piece chicken mcnugget happy meal at McDonalds.... I guess if they told me I couldn't I'd just order the nuggets and drink. I don't know i am usually on a tight budget so I would just order whatever was within the pocketbook range... or walk across to Wendy's where you can get a small salad for a buck and a baked potato for a buck... water is free!

I eat kid's meals a lot, mostly at fast food restaurants. If you happen to have a tiny dog, some of the toys make great toys. My 11 year old chihuahua has several of the little stuffed animals, some as old as she is. If you don't have children or pets, many of the 'free' toys in the kids meals become collectibles after a while (if they are unopened).
I can understand why some full-serve restaurants don't let adults order kids meals. They really don't make money on them, instead relying on what the parents order to make a profit. Smart restaurant have come out with 'Lite Fare' menus for those who don't wish to eat a larger meal. These meals aren't much bigger than the kids meal, but have some profit built into them.

I think I've seen some of the lighter meals. I know a couple of places have full order or half order on a lot of items. The half orders are usually plenty for me! Sometimes that is still way too much!!

I order the kids' meal all the time! I just can't eat the full sized meals and feel I'd be wasting money if I ordered it. I have no problem at fast food joints, but if I'm in a sit down restaurant I'll ask if it's OK to order the kids' meal and they have never said "no" to me.

Usually the menu at a sit-down restaraunt will say that the children's menu is only for kid 12 and under. But I haven't been turned down at a fast food restuarant. I usully don't et any trouble from them!

Hello macdlingolinger, to be honest I don't like fast food at all so never order it. I don't like to be faces with a large plate of food though either so often when we are in a taverna I just order a half portion as I know that otherwise I'll leave lots and then they'll be fussing round wondering what was wrong with their cooking and take offence. That method works well for me.

I agree with you both... and I stated in a previous response, that you could actually ask them to put half of the order in a doggie bag before you even start to eat. Then you can take home half and eat half while you are there. It cuts down on your portions, and also saves on the waste!!!

I don't see anything wrong with it. People who think that it isn't right for a 48 yr. old to order a kid's meal is probably out of their minds.

Besides, glasses are easier to wash than dishes, pot and pans...right?
