I couldn't make this up! The RNC recently sent out a survey about health care reform. You can see the questions here:

http://farm3.static.flick...

Here's my favorite:

"It has been suggested that the government could use voter registration to determine a person's political affiliation, prompting fears that GOP voters might be discriminated against for medical treatment in a Democrat-imposed health care rationing system. Does this possibility concern you?"
Yes No Undecided

You can read more about the "2009 Future of American Health Care Survey by the Republican Party" as well as the cover letter from RNC Chairman Michael Steele here:

Boy, am I glad I'M not a registered Republican...lol!!

lol My favorite was number 5. Right now, health care is ration for those that can pay the high costs. I'm really glad I am not a registered Republican either!

myLot reputation of 67/100. anniepa (11669)   ranked 329 out of 3,987 in politics  3 years ago

I know but I guess that's how some of them want to keep it. If someone can't afford the high costs they really don't care if they get the care they need or not. After all, those aren't usually the people who vote for them and they sure don't have money to contribute to their campaigns like the insurance companies do...lol!

Do the people who put this survey together think that all the people in the U.S.A. are stupid idiots? Oh, that's right they sent it out to Republicans not to everyone! Didn't they know that someone other than the ones they intended would get hold of this survey and spill it to the media? No wonder they lost the election by such a big margin, with leaders like that!

Their chairman, Michael Steele, is about as dumb as a piece of steel I think!

Hi, Annie!
The unbelievable part of this is that people believe it! Then they pass it along as if it's written in stone and delivered by God!

I'm half expecting to see a discussion or two started here by someone who got that survey and really takes it seriously.

I heard about that. They are just so paranoid, that it is ridiculous. It is so very, very stupid. The kicker for me was hearing on a news story that Michael Steele said on NPR "Look, no one's trying to scare people with soundbites. I mean, you know, I've not done that, and I don't know any of the leaders in the House and Senate that have done that."....yeah they just released that survey that implies that Democrats are trying to off the Republicans, on top of all of their "pull the plug on Grandma" comments....this survey is just so stupid and out there, it only makes the Republicans look like kooks, so I am glad that I am not a registered republican, because I wouldn't want to be associated with such non-sense.

if you click the link on the right side bar on the page you suggested from the WI, you can read where the RNC said ..."Nowhere in the proposed bill is any reference to tapping into voter registration info " (Glen Thrush being quoted)

I'm sure that won't stop some people from taking it seriously. It takes a sick, paranoid person to have ever even come up with such a ludicrous idea.

Barbara Wagner bravely faced the death panel in Oregon she was refused the medication that would prolonged her life, she die at the age of 64 year's old of cancer October 2008 in Springfield,Oregon,so much for puling the plug on grandma.
I do not think this matter is republicans or democrat this it is we the people of the United States of American that are saying hell"NO" to govement interfering with our health care issues.
It is people from all walks of life the seniors who have paid in Medicare 40 year's and the tax payers that will foot these trillions of dollar that the U.S. owes to China alone for the next 2,000 year's.
The U.S.in August 2009 paid China 1.4 billion in tax alone on the money owed to China.
The seniors has paid faithfully in to Medicare 40 year's and this administration say's they are gutting Medicare 500 billion dollars.
The seniors are being robbed they will not get decent care over seen by government and all of it mouthiness of red tape.
Saying there is no death panels is rather foolish Barbara can't talk because dead people do not talk but if she could she would attest to death panels if she could talk Oregon death panel killed her...So much for not pulling the plug on grandma!!!
Far as this survey don't seem bad to me intelligent questions of what I glanced over,70% of the American people are satisfied with their health care.
The American people as a whole wants some heath care reform but they do want to see our health system considered around the world as a first class health system.
We don't have the Mayo clinic,M.D.Anderson medical center and state of the art health care all across the U.S.because we are third world country with a broken system.
Seems to me it is the democrats that have a problem they have the votes to pass their own health care bill and the republicans really have nothing to do with it,like Michale Steel said last week pass it baby bring it on after all it is your bill.

(The Barbara Waston true medical story)

The powerful story of Barbara Wagner demonstrates why this discussion is of utmost importance. When Barbara’s lung cancer reappeared during the spring of 2008 her oncologist recommended aggressive treatment with Tarceva, a new chemotherapy. However, Oregon’s state run health plan denied the potentially life altering drug because they did not feel it was "cost-effective." Instead, the State plan offered to pay for either hospice care or physician-assisted suicide.

In stunned disbelief you may ask, "How can this be? This happens in Europe. I’ve heard stories of Britain’s National Health Service delaying intervention until the patient dies or reports of physician-assisted suicide in the Netherlands. But in America?"

The answer is simple. Oregon state officials controlled the process of healthcare decision-making—not Barbara and her physician. Chemotherapy would cost the state $4,000 every month she remained alive; the drugs for physician-assisted suicide held a one-time expense of less than $100. Barbara’s treatment plan boiled down to accounting. To cover chemotherapy state policy demanded a five percent patient survival rate at five years. As a new drug, Tarceva did not meet this dispassionate criterion. To Oregon, Barbara was no longer a patient; she had become a "negative economic unit."

In 1994 Barbara’s state established the Oregon Health Plan to give its working poor access to basic healthcare while limiting costs by "prioritizing care." In 1997 Oregon legalized physician-assisted suicide to offer "death with dignity" to patients who chose to die without further medical treatment. In the end, the State secured the power to ration healthcare in order to control its financial risk, even if that meant replacing a patient’s chance to live with the choice of how to die.

this is anniepa's discussion, but I just have to jump in and say that you missed the entire point. This is not supposed to be a discussion where people give their stories on either side, or the scare tactics more like, but I guess the reason you missed the point was because you use scare tactics, this discussion was about the RNC's paranoia in the survey that they sent out that insinuated that the democrats wanted to off the republicans, it wasn't about the health care bill, so perhaps you could respond to what this discussion is about instead of trying to talk about "death panels" and a story, yes its very sad, but has NOTHING to do with this discussion, its propaganda and its misplaced

Hurry Spicy, She's been nailed again, it's always a book length comment trying to poison people's discussions. I don't know what Oregon does has anything to do with what the committee is working out in Washington. You struck out again rose.

myLot reputation of 48/100. iriscot (792)   ranked 556 out of 3,987 in politics  3 years ago

Oops... I meant Hurray Spicy... sorry, another d@man typo.

myLot reputation of 67/100. anniepa (11669)   ranked 329 out of 3,987 in politics  3 years ago

Thanks to iriscot and spicy!! Rose just doesn't get it at all! Barbara shouldn't have had to die and if we'd have had a universal health care plan decades ago maybe she wouldn't have. Here's an example of how wonderful our private, for-profit system works. Note, the insurance the woman who wrote this had is UnitedHealth, the company that recently reported billions in profits and one of the companies behind the insurance lobby's campaign against health care reform.

http://www.heraldnet.com/...

Rose likes to quote Michael Steele. I say, you go, girl...lol! This is the guy who spoke of needing to protect Medicare one minute and then told of what a failure it is the next. He claimed he doesn't use scare-tactics but the survey with his name on it says the complete opposite. Of course, Rose thinks the questions asked were "intelligent"; that says a lot.

I guess I'm not seeing what the rest of you are seeing. Bit corny but so was the youtube video of pro health care supporters swearing up and down that socialism meant everything was free.

I'm afraid I'm not familiar with that video but I'm not sure I see the connection between something as you describe it and the type of scare-tactic used in this letter.

The political machine at its best! Divide and conquer; plant seeds of doubt; scare, intimidate and confuse the issues, stir the pot to win the prize...sigh! How tired I am of the game. I cannot dislike the players because the game is whack...sigh! Will we ever stop being mindless sheep? Who wins? That is a total toss up but it is a sure bet that the politicians aren't going hungry or lacking for health care, or having their homes forclosed upon or cars repossessed. The have no outstanding fears because they are master players of the game and know the rest of the true story, not the junk they pitch to us. Sigh! Sadly we are the pawns in the chess game of political folly and we are the ones who end up looking like "Boo Boo the Fool" when all the dust settles.

For once, I'd like us to be united for the betterment of all. At the end of the day we are all the same with the same basic desires and needs; wouldn't it be wonderful if a survey whose aim was to unite us all was dispatched and found its way into the media. Sigh! What are the chances of that happening in my life time...sigh! I hope I live to see it.

As for the survey, it is what it is; don't add to its fuel.

myLot reputation of 67/100. anniepa (11669)   ranked 329 out of 3,987 in politics  3 years ago

You're right, the survey is what it is and it belongs in a TV sitcom as does RNC Chairman Steele!
