Did Obama Lie?

I think that the focus on Joe Wilson is partially to deflect from the fact that the president's speech gave us no more details than we had previously and he also misstated some easily disputed facts and stories. The only bill available thus far is HR3200 and it is the House bill that everyone is arguing the provisions of. If you look on the net you can find copies of it. I have it downloaded to my computer for easy access when I want to check on what it really says.

I do believe he Lied... He needs to get it passed and he's trying to silence the people who are fighting against him. He's loosing this fight the more people know about whats in it. All this smoke and mirrors, bills being written and rewritten, all to confuse us so it will be just like the stimulus bill and all the other bills that we didn't know what was in them until they are passed. With the Illegals part yes Obama knows that it does do anything to prevent illegals from getting free healthcare at the expense of the American tax payer. I'm the most upset about forcing everyone to get health insurance or we get fined... that's not right... I don't pay car insurance because I don't have a need for a car...And if their is a government health insurance companies are going to drop offering one through them because they will be better off paying the tax not to offer it and something I read in the prior bill I know has something about how they would be taxed anyways and it's so much a pain why do it. So eventually we will all be in government run healthcare you will have limited choices because your employer won't be able to give you one... and just like Medicare and Medicaid, and the post office for that matter, the government will mismanage them. They will ration out the care when they realize the lack of funding because human instinct is to use it if you got it so everyone will think oh I'll go find out all I'm allergic to and talk to my doctor about clearing up my acne. If I have to pay for it I should use it. And he should have known better to say that preventive care saves money... it saves lives yes but not money. Tests cost money and most come out negative. Then even if they find something like a lump or growth or something their is a great chance it is benign. Think of the number of PAP tests alone in a year... one for every woman over 16 years old. Think of the number of woman it all of them get one once a year.

Hi shewolf, I don't know if he lied or not but I will tell you that I've yet to meet a politician that does not lie. Some just lie more and about more important stuff than others but they all lie and make false promises, mislead us etc.

The only way we're going to know whether or not Obama lied is to know what it says in the bill Congress will be voting on.

Well, he is a Democrat after all. So lying is hardly a surprise. But what specifically did the man claim he was lying about? About the health care bill? Absolutely he lied. Right now Medicare only covers a whooping 12.5% of the population. Despite that, Medicare is roughly $70 Trillion dollars in the hole. We only collected $2.33 Trillion in taxes last year. Obama claimed that we could somehow increase Medicare to cover 100% of the population, and not increase taxes on everyone. That is a complete lie. Even if Obama did nothing at all to Medicare, he'd have to increase taxes on the entire population to fund the $70 Trillion it already needs as is. To boldly claim somehow we could increase medicare, and not tax everyone more, is a complete joke.

In his defense (which is not characteristic for me) I'd have to say that NO I don't think he lied. I think his easily formed idealisms came face-to-face with immovable realities. Now, even tho he didn't lie I'm betting he left out a bunch of relevant information as to his motives within the framework of the idealisms. He's a politician, afterall. That's what they do! ENJOY!

A half truth is a whole lie. Yes, HR3200 specifically says that federal funds won't be used to pay for the medical care of illegal aliens. However, it also doesn't exempt medical facilities from laws requiring them to treat everyone, regardless of legal status, if they accept federal program funding. So, what Obama is apparently saying is, the treatment of illegal aliens will have to be absorbed by the medical facility if they don't choose to buy insurance.

I agree with other posters. Wilson's outburst has caused people to focus on that and not Obama's speech. I still have a lot of questions he has not answers and some news ones after that speech. As for the illegals....well I think unless they are going to pass a law that says hopitals can refuse service to illegals than ya it covers them. they will go to the emegerency room and we will fit the bill. Amendments that would specificly named illegals a ineligible were voted down. So I would have to say then yes they are covered. Plus I am thinking how Obama and the rest are going to "solve" the illegal issue is to pass a bill that gives them amnesty and makes them legal thereby covering them. And if they do that then all heck is going to break loose. There are a lot of people in this country that DO NOT want amnesty given to them.

The thing is when they administration does lie they about face quick enough to call it a typo or misjudgment of speech. They use pretty words that trick the mind so many feel lied to. As with the health bill when Obama spoke about life assessments. People cried that it was wrong and he said that they would "re word it" many where happy with that thinking he would change what it said, which he did, he just didn't change the meaning of the words. So people felt lied to. He is walking a fine line and when he slips he has a silver tongue enough to get out of it, for now. His approval is dropping because more people are seeing past the hype and propaganda to what is really there. More and more people will realize or feel as though they where lied to.
