Are most men really unable to cook even simple things for themselves? |
|
a comment by the writer of a discussion to one of mylotters responses made me stop and think. this man said the potion suggested by the mylotter was so good but there was no one there to prepare it for'him. this made me wonder, do most men really not know how to prepare even simple things for themselves? I know my own husband was a very good'cook so I wondered if there are just a few guys who really 'are unable to cook anything for themselves, or many men unable to fix something for themselves if wifey isn't around?

Well don't underestimate men like that... yes its true that some men find it really difficult at cooking and some other stuff too... but there are men who can cook very good... I myself can cook pretty well although its totally out of trail n error...but i think most men can atleast cook up simple stuff for themselves... Keep posting... cheers

3. spalladino (8855) | 3 months ago | I think it depends on the man. My husband is Italian and his mother and grandmother taught him and his brothers how to cook, clean and to wash and mend their own clothes. My husband is actually a better cook than I am because he likes to cook and has many years of practice.

malamar (435) | 3 months ago | If I could find a guy who could cook, clean and do household chores - I would be married - lol.
I CAN cook, however, I don't particularly enjoy it. I serve three meals - frozen, microwave and takeout. Fortunately, it is just myself I am cooking for so it's all good.
A couple of my brothers, on the other hand, are excellent cooks and really enjoy it. Alas for me, that are not exactly available to me as husbands, so I just eat over at their place a lot! At least my sister-in-laws like me - ahem, at least they say they do....

Hatley (20100) | 3 months ago | hi malamar my hubby would love to cook, vacumn and sweep but he never ever did a dish. he worked as a cook and he was used to having people wash the dishes so that was my mileu which I didnt mind at all. I mean he would cook such great meals I did the dishes which I hate to do but was no chore when he cooked for me. loved it.

4. redhotpogo (1175) | 3 months ago | Anyone can cook. its really simple. Just follow the instructions. You can find any recipe you need online. The thing with most guys is they are old school, which means they are lazy. Sure they work on their jobs, but when they come home they still expect the woman to be in the kitchen (the woman who just got home from her job). More and more guys are cooking for themselves these days, but those people 40 and over, forget about it. Not going to happen. They will starve to death, before making anything.

Hatley (20100) | 3 months ago | hi redhotpogo my sentiments exactly mymom taught me to cook when I was a little girl and she also had a ton of cook books. so anyone'can teach themselves if they just will. You are so right, my dad never would cook anything for himself, no matter what.He was in his 50ths too. if my mom wasnt there I had to do it, if I wasnt there he went hungry.lol lol lol
| |
|
|
redhotpogo (1175) | 3 months ago | Yep. I taught myself the basics by reading the simple directions of things that I bought, and then watching lots of the food network. Trial and error. And if you just can't cook get a crock pot. Anyone can cook with a crock pot. You pour some water, or a little wine, some seasonings, dump in some meat and veggies, and turn the knob. And just wait. About 8 hours. So plenty of time to do some chores, hang out, and when you're hungry it will be ready. You can't screw it up.

Hatley (20100) | 3 months ago | hi redhotpogo yes hotpots are just fantastic mybest friend fixes 'things in the morning before work and when she gets'homi she has anice dinner all ready and waiting for her to sit down relax and eat it. I have no place to cook now. alas.

Hatley (20100) | 3 months ago | hi tantrums a lot of guys are better cooks than women. I'know some guys will just open a can or go out to eat. thats sad as cooking'can be fun and you can really make some neat dishes.

6. catdla1 (2616) | 3 months ago | There's a vast difference between 'not being able to cook' and 'not wanting to cook'. I'd be willing to guess that most men who don't cook, don't want to. It doesn't take talent or creativity to prepare Hamburger Helper (Or Chicken Helper or Tuna Helper). Add a can or two of vegetables and serve fruit on the side, and you've got something at least healthier than McFat burgers.

Hatley (20100) | 3 months ago | hi catdla1 oh I am with you on that, some guys like my dad when he was in his late fifties and early sixties, he would sit and go hungry unless a woman waited on him. and since we lived in the country and there werent any fast food joints around well sometimes he would open a can of soup but that was about it. my husband loved to cook.

7. Misterwit (996) | 3 months ago | Hi Hatley, most of the men know how to cook but they pretend they do not know how to prepare anything, because if he start to show them how good he is, he may end up cooking for the rest of his life as the wife may not bother much as she knows that he is a good cook so when ever she feel like skipping she has a reason...... this is not the case all the time but sometimes.....

Hatley (20100) | 3 months ago | hi mister wit could be sometimes huh he he he My hubby was a'professional cook so I enjoyed his cooking at home, although I really loved to cook myself. He didnt wash dishes though. but that was fair enough as he fixed the meak so that was okay to me.

Hatley (20100) | 3 months ago | hi mansoak yes really boys should be taught when they are'young as often men dont get married right away and cooking for oneself' is cheaper than eating out all the time. some farm kids do learn 'to cook for themselves.it will come in handy.

9. thea09 (4129) | 3 months ago | Hi Hatley, I have a good friend who lives alone. I can tell you exactly what is in the house. In the fridge one bottle of water and one Greek yogurt. One packet of Greek coffee. One jar of local honey to put in the yogurt. One bottle of olive oil, to drink. He makes the coffee and wouldn't expect a woman to do it for him. So the necessary daily diet is taken of completely and each evening he eats at the taverna. Why would he need to cook.
