I Just Love Salad...Lettuce, Tomato and....a FROG??????? |
|
I heard this on the news last night, how a woman got more than she bargained when she got groceries including a prepackaged bag of lettuce. The woman is Tracy Grimes of Sterling Heights Michigan who bought the packaged lettuce from a Kroger supermarket. She was all set to open it but noticed something moving inside...a small frog. Getting in touch with the news media right away, a news team came over to witness the event of her opening the bag of lettuce to verify that she wasn't making the story up. She also called up the Kroger representatives who stupidly told her to mail the package and frog back to them to get a refund...she didn't want to do that as she felt the frog would die en route in the mail..so instead, the frog was set free while the news team was there...you can see the article and a video at the link I provide.
Uh...have any of you gotten more than you bargained for when buying food?

pyewacket (11560) | 4 weeks ago | LOL--I know about expired food. But not from a supermarket. In the past, a neighbor thought she was helping out by given us her extra cans of soup and they sounded great, really nice flavors but then would notice the sell by date and it'd be two or three years expired! I hope you do an update about your trailer problem..keep at it and get the news media involved...write your congressman (or email)--most have websites with a "contact me" thing.

babyangie27 (1200) | 4 weeks ago | local news doesn't care I even contacted the one that is in this story and I guess we don't matter, the health department today finally called after 3 weeks of nothing only to tell me oh we have no way of getting a tester and if it is mold you have to pay for that,i have no money. I have tried emailing and calling even local news station with nothing as i said guess we are just trailer park trash to everyone in Michigan.

pyewacket (11560) | 4 weeks ago | How about writing newspapers....sometimes if a story hits on the papers THEN the TV news catches the story--that's what happened to me few years ago...had a story about my mother and I and it caught the attention of the TV news...we were then interviewed by channel 2, 5, 7, 9, 47 and even Jeanne Moss of CNN interviewed our situation...hey why not contact CNN???

pyewacket (11560) | 4 weeks ago | I was reading elsewhere this isn't the first time something like this has happened and there's the idea that the water used in cleaning the lettuce might somehow have tadpole eggs...so the frog virtually hatches in the lettuce somewhere along the line. I'm glad that frog lived too...he was kind a cute

4. Hatley (20200) | 4 weeks ago | hi pyewacket this did not happen to me,thank God, but a year or so ago in one of the local Walmarts, a customer was picking up a stalk of bananas as they were on sale. she got more than the bananas, she got stung on the hand by a very lively scorpion that was hidden in the stalk. The poor lady had to have the Paramedics take her to the nearest emergency room where she was given treatment for the venom. the paper said the employees had a lively time running down that biting venomous scorpion and killing the thing. She survived but I will bet she was pretty leery of shopping in Walmart's produce department. When my son was still in the crawling stage, we lived in Tempe Arizona where scorpions were everywhere. I heard him giggling and saw him crawling along right after a big scorpion. I managed to grab him and a broom and I kept whacking that critter till it was completely dead.I was never so scared in my life, as I wondered if my litle guy would have died had that scorpion bit him. wow.

pyewacket (11560) | 4 weeks ago | OMG--when you think of it something like that could happen anywhere....I'll keep a sharp eye out next time I grab a bunch of bananas..the most I've ever found was a dead fly among the romaine lettuce...LOL. And so glad you managed to save your son from that scorpion...poor kid, he must have thought it was some kind of toy to play with--quick thinking on your part

6. Kashmeresmycat (1273) | 4 weeks ago | What an idiot telling her to mail? it back...how stupid people are. I'm glad she let it go.
That's so funny though, poor little guy, I bet he was wondering where the heck am I? lol!
There was one place I remember many, many years ago that sold really cheap food so I bought some bread. When I got home, I opened it up to make a sandwich and the bread was full of rat poop, ugh! It was actually cooked into the bread. Needless to say, I took it back, threw a fit, and never went there again. Makes me want to puke right now, haha.

pyewacket (11560) | 4 weeks ago | What kind of bugs? Usually if one has any kind of grain product for a long time one might get bowevils in it...like pasta, rice, flour--so maybe that's why it was on sale...maybe they were past their "best buy" date
| |
|
|
catdla1 (2620) | 4 weeks ago | They weren't boll weevils, I've seen those before. Also, the sell by date was still current, in fact it was good until various months of next year (depending on pasta shape). I'm not an expert in bugs, but they looked like earwigs, only tiny. If you look at this picture, attached, they looked like the insect pictured in the lower left hand corner. http://www.northville.k12... it is something in the earwig family, they're usually drawn to moisture. All of the pasta bags were still sealed and airtight, so it has to be something that was bagged with the products.

9. ElusiveButterfly (9415) | 4 weeks ago | I heard this on the radio this morning. I was impressed to know that they are not seeking a monetary settlement for having a frog in that bag of salad. Letting the frog go was a decent thing to do.

GardenGerty (20190) | 4 weeks ago | That is a good foot note that she is not looking for reimbursement. I doubt that this could have been prevented. I sure would rather find a live frog than a dead one in my lettuce.
| |
|
|
pyewacket (11560) | 4 weeks ago | GarenGerty's got a point...a live frog is better than finding a dead one since one wouldn't know how long it had been dead....

My take on lettuce would be very different if I had opened that package. I wouldn't have been able to call anyone because I would have been cleaning my self after I SHAT my pants, lolololol. To much information? sorry dl

pyewacket (11560) | 4 weeks ago | LOL--yes you are a bit graphic there..heehee. I never buy packaged lettuce anyway, just the loose kind so I guess less chance of finding something like that in it
