I Just Love Salad...Lettuce, Tomato and....a FROG??????? |
|
I heard this on the news last night, how a woman got more than she bargained when she got groceries including a prepackaged bag of lettuce. The woman is Tracy Grimes of Sterling Heights Michigan who bought the packaged lettuce from a Kroger supermarket. She was all set to open it but noticed something moving inside...a small frog. Getting in touch with the news media right away, a news team came over to witness the event of her opening the bag of lettuce to verify that she wasn't making the story up. She also called up the Kroger representatives who stupidly told her to mail the package and frog back to them to get a refund...she didn't want to do that as she felt the frog would die en route in the mail..so instead, the frog was set free while the news team was there...you can see the article and a video at the link I provide.
Uh...have any of you gotten more than you bargained for when buying food?

31. happy6162 (2162) | 4 weeks ago | I am glad she let the frog go. Why would they tell her to mail the package of lettuce and frog back to them. She should have taken the lettuce back to the store and got her money back. A long time ago I brought the packages of dough for biscuits I open the packages and took the individual biscuit out and felt something hard in a couple of them I check them and there was small pieces about 1/2 inch in side of glass in them. I took it back to the store and told the manager what I found they returned my money. She check one that I had not taken out of the package and found glass in it also. She said they were going to pull the rest of that brand of biscuit dough on the shelf and return them with the package I took to them. They must have because I did not see that brand in the store later that week. It is hard to imagine what might have happen it we had eaten those biscuits.

pyewacket (11583) | 4 weeks ago | That was stupid of them to tell her to mail the frog back. That's terrible you found glass in those biscuits. Sometime last year I think, they did a recall of believe it or not some brand of baby food as there were minute slivers of glass in the food...can you imagine?

33. thea09 (4251) | 4 weeks ago | Hi pyewacket, I did get a sealed iceburg lettuce a few weeks back and popped it in the fridge for a few days to use the loose lettuce first knowing the iceburg would keep longer as its a 2 hour round trip to actually get one. So it must have been 2 days later when I pulled the wrapping off to discover a live red worm still inside it whilst I would have expected it to be dead with the fridge temp and lack of air. I threw it over the balcony wall, oh the worm that is not the lettuce. That just got a good washing and was most enjoyable.

pyewacket (11583) | 4 weeks ago | Poor worm...LOL--yeah one would think it'd be dead from the cooler temperature of the fridge--although don't worms kind of hibernate in the soil even in the winter???
| |
|
|
thea09 (4251) | 4 weeks ago | I don't know. Our worms tend to be different over here. In the winter especially we have these nasty black ones which come indoors out of the soil when it rains. Luckily I only get the odd one but a couple of kms up the hill they literally get hundreds coming out of the soil in winter and going indoors, and they smell if they are killed. If I had that many I'd keep something handy to drown them in but as it's only the odd one I just brush them up and throw them over the balcony as far as my aim will reach.

34. lindiebiz (652) | 4 weeks ago | Gosh that is so gross. I cant imagine that happening to me. I better go check the lettuce I bought today to make sure there is no frog in it. The supermarket should compensate her, however, I like what she did by freeing the animal

That poor little froggy. I think they should have researched what he was before they set him free. What if their front yard wasn't the proper frog habitat, then he's just going to die anyway. And he was soo cute!

|
pyewacket (11583) | 4 weeks ago | Yeah he was cute and you're right...I don't think frogs can tolerate very cold temperatures and being the family was from Michigan it's going get real cold soon--if it were me I'd keep it as a pet...LOL

| 38. bestmommy (38) | 4 weeks ago | Yes, it's happened several times. I remember as a kid, finding a chicken bone in a can of chicken noodle soup. Luckily, I did not swallow it and my mom had to mail it back to the soup company(don't know which) and they sent us a refund check. Also, recently I found a small rock in some mixed vegetables from a local chinese restaurant. Again, I was very lucky not to have broken a tooth or swallowed it. I returned to the restaurant and gave the manager the rock and he explained they get the vegetables fresh from local farmers and apologized that his kitchen staff did not clean them well enough. He gave me 2 free meals and coupons for future visits. Though I've never found a live creature in any of my food it is quite disturbing to find any foreign object that should not be consumed by humans.

pyewacket (11583) | 4 weeks ago | You really were lucky that you didn't swallow that chicken bone. That was nice of that restaurant manager allowing two free meals. But yes, they should have cleaned the vegetables a lot better
