let's bring back the dead...

now to clear up any misunderstandings, if your hobby is making zombies then please do this in private. i am talking about resurrecting discussions. several users have commented on the lack of interesting discussions lately so i have come up with a cunning (although possibly not desperately original) plan to get lots of interesting and original discussions active on mylot. here's what to do if you wish to join in: every time you answer a discussion look at the list of similar ones at the side choose a good one (doesn't matter if it is ancient or even if the starter has disappeared) reply. this discussion will now be seen by your friends, the original poster and their friends. you can do the same thing when you go to a friend's profile to send a message,stalk or whatever. go to their discussions and trawl through the older ones to bring one back to life. you can also make recommendations to friends (pm not plugging might be best) and so we might be saved from only answering and starting discussions on favourite flavour of water yet!

A good idea jb and something I do when I have a little extra time after responding to friends. I usually go to their profile and go back a page on their discussions started. PS Just curious: Why the 78000?

Well, you know how rabbits multiply so quickly, right? They have to keep track somehow, don't they?

Oh, and I was so hoping that this was going in a totally different direction, Rabbit. Since it is not, then I guess I will be forced to reply to this particular subject. I have been known to go to a person's profile and look back through discussions. I do this to try to find ones that might be interesting but may have been overlooked at the time of the original posting, perhaps because they were new and didn't have many friends or it was a slow time or whatever. I find something that I can reply to that does not have a ton of responses already, and I comment on it. Sometimes this works and we have some interesting dialog. Other times, though, my response goes completely unanswered. Perhaps some people do not even go back to their own older discussions to see whether or not they have been commented on.

by all means answer or discuss something only tenuously related to the original question purpley. . especially if this involves zombies

Well, I rather thought that you might be recruiting people to resurrect a zombie army for some nefarious plot or another. Perhaps you were doing a sequel to Thea's "the body series", where now that you have killed the person and disposed of the body, you need to resurrect it. Oh, that gives me a marvelous idea. I think she just started one about being on trial for the crime, didn't she? If I resurrect the body and bring it back to life, then I can't possibly be convicted of murder now can I? Great inspiration Rabbit!

hi JB been a while, I sometimes do that when i get bored.. mostly the profile stalking, i pick a person from the discussion i've answered that i'm NOT friends with, and then stalk their profile for a good discussion, and continue that trend... it leads you into some intereesting areas of mylot you may have not dabbled in sometimes. ;)

odd or maybe funny! depends on the person you follow.. I used to follow a pretty funny guy, well a couple, and always had a few laughs when i did. even the older posts.

Hi there little bunny, Thats a good idea. I actually already do that a lot. some discussions are like 3 yrs old and still relavant . I've had people do that to me too. It's pretty cool to get a respnse to a discussion that I've forgotten writing.

Very good idea there. In fact, I have answered some discussions related on the side column quite a few times already. Whenever I go to a discussion to answer, and I see another responder with a very interesting answer, I tend to go to their profile and check out the discussions. If enticing, I'd go answer. So good idea there, Judith..

I know what you mean. Sometimes during weekends, I will try my very best to find some good discussions or interesting ones at that. I normally answer yours, Thea, Alice, Dawnald and many more. I'm adding more in my list now as I go around. Some friends are awesome but they don't make discussions regularly like me too, so whenever I see them making one, I'd rush for it. Or go and check out their older discussions..

i started doing this fairly recently - and also in obscure interests (that i am interested in naturally, i don't really bother too much with the 'cement types' and 'collecting clothes pegs' sections), that don't have many discussions. sometimes you see some very odd ones and some very good ones.

What a great idea! Better than making zombies...LOL I do this from time to time and have also added obscure interests and commented in old discussions in them. I did not get much response from that though! BTW, my favourite flavour of water is natural spring!

i prefer tap. anyway some discussions i've been to do come back to life, some don't but you find some interesting ones either way. you are right about making zombies - they are a great responsibility - always remember 'zombies are for life, not just for christmas'. or something.

OMG, original or not but this surely takes the cake for being the most innovative and intelligent discussion in my recent memory…you’ve surely saved a lot of people from wracking their brains to find what to write on their ‘favourite flavor of water’ LOL

Hey jb, I have always looked at the similar discussions but never thought to answer one over a week old. Now I will try to find one that's at least one year old and see if there is any interest left in it. I didn't know if we were allowed or if my answer to the original post would go unanswered. I'll try it and see what happens. Thanks for the tip! Sincerely in Christ, Leesa C. Eph.2:8,9

hi jb blue bunny lol I have already been doing that and also going back to some of my older discussions and commenting on any responses I might have missed or were new ones. I have also gone to some of my friends profiles and found some of their old discussions I had not responded to and found to interest me. so there really is not a dearth of good discussions if we just dig a bit. So I do not have to again tell someone what my favorite color or flavor of ice cream or water is.

I don't totally agree. I can see where there would be nice for some but I try to get mine done and gone and be assured that I have chosen the right reply to for BR. If you get people doing this then I(and perhaps others) am going to feel badly for giving BR to one when another later on is better.

Yes. I usually leave them about a week if not getting many responses and much longer if I am.

well if you didn't give the br 5 minutes after starting the discussion i don't think anybody will mind. i respond to interesting older ones and they nearly always already have a br on them, waiting a week or so is fine but most people don't leave them for months or years (i usually leave them 1-2 months, not much more)

I'd love to join in and play jb but there are absolutely no related discussions at the side of this one which I really don't understand. In the cause of research I will add the words 'murder most foul' and a tag to match. Did you forget to tag this jb?
@jb78000 (15139)
24 Nov 09
i didn't mean this discussion. i meant others. anyway i do not always bother tagging.

Ahhh yes I like this idea and will implement it as soon as I'm done responding with yours. I have felt that the same way with mylot and the new population. It seems like there are a lot of one-liners and a lot of discussions being started - but no responses. The only reason that I can think of with the lack of response is that the discussion themselves are too boring. Anyway - great idea!

Hi jb I like your ideal and Im game to join. I will do that right now with this discussion. I will look to my right and see what is there. If nothing then I will go back to the ones that I have responded to and see what is on my right there. This is a great discussion and very important to us mylotters. Keep up the good work and continue to have a good day. Keep Smiling.

I am one of the My Lotters commenting lately on the lack of quality discussions. I did have a view on why this happening, but I could well be wrong. So I am going to follow your suggestion, as far as possible. It will be interestig to see the results. Thanks.
@jb78000 (15139)

why do you think this is happening? - i think probably because of a lot of new users starting obvious ones (think most do this at least a bit when they start) and oldies running out of steam.

This is a great idea. I also think it works to go visit profiles and look at (and answer) discussions that person has started that you haven't seen, as well as respond in discussions that person has responded in. For instance, I am doing it now jb lol. I went to your profile earlier and have been bouncing back and forth from discussions you have started and discussions you have been in. Most if not all of them have been very entertaining. Thank you.
