I love beets. They remind me of my childhood. But I did not buy them much when my husband was alive because he did not like them and I was not going to cook different meals.
When he died, I did not start to eat again some food...

My mom canned pickled beets back in the day which I enjoyed as a side dish. Now I but then periodically in the store but I wonder whether the picking process actually removed the vitamin content.
Does anyone know?
I rarely buy...

My mom often made pickled eggs and pickled beets for our Easter dinner relish tray. I'm not sure if they were traditional for us because we lived in Pennsylvania (they are pretty common in the area where I grew up and you can even...

The beets were very tender. I have some cilantro leaves and was planning to have a beet salad.
But I decided to taste one and I did not stop until I ate it all up. In my country, beets are sold in packages of 5. I almost cooked...

I don't know how it happened, but the bottom shelf in my refrigerator decided to collapse last night.
I would have been OK if not for the open can of beets I had on said shelf.
I can't remember if I uttered an oath or not. I...

I was surprised to find three kinds of pickles in our refrigerator when I started to fix a sandwich for lunch yesterday. There are the sliced dills which I like on sandwiches, those small ones which are quite spicy and the larger...

Today, a new day, new challenges. Now I was thinking to make something with what I had in the pantry. I was going to make a recipe that had some yellow split peas in it.
It turned out that in my recipe book, there was a beet...

Never being a fan of beets and always insisting they taste like dirt to me, we decided to juice some with carrots and other veggies to calm the taste.
Now a grower from the Kings Mountain area here has beets that are actually...

The salad I made for the funeral dinner looked so good I want to make some for us.
I still have all the ingredients except the broccoli, so I guess I need more.
It had broccoli, cauliflower, raisins, sunflower kernels, red...

I love growing beets. They have iron and vitamins A and C, you can eat either the root or the greens and both freeze well enough. Beet greens are lovely in the garden and can be eaten raw or cooked. They tolerate nearly any kind...

Well beet juice anyway or beet puree. I was searching for my latest thing to do to help my brother and red velvet cake came up. People were trying to make it red without food coloring. Originally, there was a chemical reaction...

First of all, may I say, use gloves when handling these gems (red beets). Anyway, I would love suggestions for cooking these, or not cooking them. I've tried baking them and I loved it. Added just a little bit of olive oil and...

I ate at our co-op two days in a row. Day 1, they had lentils and veggies wrap. Day 2, they had hummus and veggies wrap. Carrots, greens, and beets were in it. I was surprised that I liked it with the beets in it. The lentils had...

Tonight I stopped at the grocery store to pick up a few things, one of which was canned beets. I've bought the store brand before for 59 cents... tonight, it's 99 cents. I have beets growing in my garden, so I'll just wait for...
