I was Shorted Three Dollars

It does not happen, but it DOES happen from time to time. That is, you get shortchanged. And that is exactly what happened today when I went to cash in some lottery tickets. I had $9 worth of winnings. I cashed in those tickets, bought $3 worth of new tickets, and walked away with what the cashier handed me. $3 in cash. It was not until I drove off that I realized I was actually due $6 in cash. So I was shorted $3. My wife said I should have gone back for the money. But I thought, well, as much as I am into money, it was still only $3. It was not worth my time to go back and dispute it. What would you have done?

Depends. like you probably would have just let it go but be a little more observant from then on.

Yes. Indeed. I HATE losing ANY money. It's not like you can truly ever get it back.

@porwest I guess if it was not far and if it was worth it for around $3.

I will get the $3 back from somewhere. Normally $3 is $3...but...I just did not see the point this time.

@porwest I think $3 is a lot and to me every little bit helps.

@Hannihar It is, and usually it would have irked me more. For whatever reason I was like..."I can make it up on the other end."

I would have not gone back, but possibly e mailed or phoned management to make sure the cashier is more on her toes.

Even that, to me, would seem a bit of overkill. I just chalked up my loss and walked away. I know I can make $3 elsewhere...even though I'd be $6 ahead.

It depends how far away I was from the place when I made the discovery.

If I was still in the parking lot I would have went back in, I have been there before and they would have to count the drawer to see if it was over 3 etc.

I would have gone back if I was still in the parking lot....had I got home and realized then I wouldn't have gone back and bothered....unless of course it was a huge amount, lol

I'd probably have done exactly what you did because the time and aggravation wouldn't have been worth the $3. A teller once shorted me $20 cash back at a register! The process to get that $20 was crazy!! They shut down the line...called over a manager. I then had to go sit at customer service until they counted her till and finally when they brought me $20 that was owed to me, I had to sign something and my question was, "What am I signing? I wouldn't have signed anything if she gave me my $20 the way she was suppose to, why am I signing something now?" That started a whole different process...basically, I was signing if her till came up short that night, they could contact me! Ummmm nooo...there are a lot of hours between now and closing...I'm not responsible for all that happens in those hours??? I finally was able to leave with the $20 they had deducted from my account and not signing, but what a process...for my OWN money!!

I would have done the same but next time I'd be more observant.

I'd go back but then how do you prove that they only gave you $3 and that you didn't just pocket the other $3 and tried to get them to give you more money.

I probably would have gone back. But with the lottery there are no receipts or anything so there's really no way to prove that you've been shorted.

Depends on how far away you were when you realized it. Sometimes it is best to walk away.

I think I would have gone back. It seems little but just think if it happens again.

I'd have probably left it too. Hopefully karma will make up for it.

I would have counted my money before leaving is what I would have done.

It would have been too late. You always have to check change on the spot.
