I was chatting briefly with @LadyDuck today regarding our last trip to Switzerland. The view was taken from a cable car ride to the peak of Mt. Pilatus in the Swiss alps, overlooking Lake Lucerne in central Switzerland. Worth the visit and such a beautiful place.
Well, hubs and I were discussing our return to Florida in December this year. For those who don’t know, we have a condo there where we spend just over half a year as residents. We are at our vacation house in Connecticut now.
Our discussion led to a unanimous decision not to return this year due to the virus. For those who are wondering, we don’t care if the state of Connecticut comes after us for back income taxes
and hefty interest fines. Our health and safety are more important.
And thank goodness I never parted with my beautiful coats, toasty winter books, scarves, gloves, mittens, and hats that one needs during Connecticut winters.

@kobesbuddy 5500 hundred new cases in Florida just for today! The governor is the biggest covidiot of them all and a huge fan of Donny. Need I say more?

Thank you for mentioning me Dianne. We are not going to move from our home this year. We will invite friends to have a "garden party" so we can keep the distance, but we will be careful. I am sure that the virus will still be here in December.

I am worried that we could see a surge in big cities during the monsoon rains, as that is the time when germs can carry far and wide.
And enclosed public places with AC could be high risk ones. So not many people might go to the Malls which have started opening.

But what about the earnings of shopkeepers in the malls?
That is also something of concern.
Government is unable to fund people beyond a point.

You're welcome.
Last Sunday when we had our son and his girlfriend here for Father's Day, I found it so difficult to be safe. We kept a safe distance as best as we could, but when I served drinks, I forgot myself and handed them to them, put extra napkins in front of them, and handed them plates. I had the cleanup to do, too. I scrubbed my hands with antibacterial soap before and after. It's tough. I'm safer without entertaining,. My friends have been out and about, and they may be carriers.
The virus will definitely be here in December, especially after the big surge they say will occur in the Fall. Better safe than sorry. We are staying home for a long time it seems.

By December, I expect that you and hubs will both change your mind. Winters in the north country? BRRRRRR! Covid19 will have vanished by then, just you wait and see

I've lived my entire life in Connecticut, minus living in Florida the last several years and traveling to warmer climates during school vacations. We will just crank up the heat and stay inside as we're doing now for the most part. The cold doesn't bother me. It's the snow.. If things change, we can go down whenever, but I don't want to think of being on a jet right now either.

Such a shame. My husband thinks that regardless of the spike in cases, that we are going down there in September as planned. He says if we wear our masks and stay away from people....how can you do that when going to various attractions? I'm sure you made the right decision; but I feel sad for you.

Don't feel sad for us. We are close to our son, not the sun. We can always change our minds, too, depending how bad it is or isn't down there.
Hopefully, by the time you and your hubby go down, it will be much safer and the number will drop. Just look at how well New York is doing now. You'll work out the attractions with masks and self distancing. At least you won't have to board a plane.

@DianneN I have wondered if I could ride in one of those cable cars. Years ago I landed in a glass elevator. Gorgeous view of Victoria's harbor BUT: it looked like I could fall right out of that square that I stood in. It took a long time for me to touch the glass sides. I think we were about 12 stories up.

Thank you! Switzerland was so beautiful. It was worse coming down. We had to take the cable car to a train and heights don't agree with me.
Thanks for agreeing with me. Florida is so out of control now, thanks to a stupid governor. We saw the covidiots in our building while we were there, and decided to head north early thanks to them.

@sallypup The one I took to Corvado Mountain in Rio was jam packed with so many people that I was pushed up against the glass. I wanted to scream to be let out, but that wouldn't have been a good idea. To this day, I can't touch the windows in a hotel that is high - like 40 floors or so up.

Yes winters can be very harsh in US - North and North East.
I could have had a chance to be in NY city around Sept-Oct 2010, but somehow it did not materialize then. I could have tasted some of the early winter there then.

The virus has changed many things for us. . At least we are healthy and still happy!
I kept the clothes because it does start getting cold here in November. Thank goodness I did. I guess I have a reason for shopping for new winter clothes now. I'm trying to look on the bright side.

@DianneN Yes, the virus has changed many things including out travel plant. We are lucky to be healthy. We have to keep ourselves healthy and safe.
We can always find a reason to go shopping for clothes. I also need new winter clothes for this coming winter. Have a nice Friday.

What a view ! Oh gosh, I didn't even think about the return trip in just a few months . . . eek, if things are going the way they are, just think how it's going to be come winter. Florida reopened up quickly - and now the numbers are showing it . . . I never understood FL's governor's way of thinking. I think you guys are making the right decision .

Thanks. Switzerland is beautiful!!!
We’ve been discussing it for several weeks now, and with a surge expected in November, forget it. Florida needs a new governor for sure. I can’t wait to vote - by mail lol. I’m so glad we left when we left!

I think you're smart to stay in CT and not go back to Florida, At least you have more space in your home in CT and I guess you can deal with the winter weather and stay safe.
My Aunt & Uncle go to Florida for the winter too and they're still there. They have a house in Oldsmare and my Aunt told me that she refuses to fly home (usually they drive) and feels safer being quarantined in her house than traveling back to upstate NY. Usually they stop by to visit me on their trip there and then when they come back again. Guess I'll see if they stay or if they come back at some point. I just hope they don't catch this virus since they're both nearly 90

@DianneN what you said is exactly what my aunt said...they feel safer staying there. They are lucky they have a house and neighbors which aren't too close. They can enjoy the yard and my aunt loves hot weather....the hotter the better. My poor uncle hates the heat

Thanks for agreeing with me. It's the best thing we can do right now.
I do hope your aunt and uncle stay safe, especially at their age. When we were there, we quarantined ourselves as best we could. With your aunt and uncle, they are in a much safer area and in a house, which is much safer than a condo filled with covidiots.
I also wouldn't get on a plane either now.
If they drive, they face the risk of having to stay in hotels, which I also fear. Perhaps they are safer staying in Florida for the time being.

@Marilynda1225 Well, at least one of them will be happy, and it should always be the woman.
They are lucky indeed. Your uncle can park himself in the a/c.

Ick to snow! At least the plow guy will come as usual. I will miss Orville tremendously.
It is a no brainer not returning. Our neighbor will continue to look after our condo, but may have to pick up extra air filters for our a/c. I'll let hubs deal with that.
As it turns out, I will definitely need to shop for some new winter clothes. I haven't bought anything winterish in 8 years!!!!

@DianneN That's a long time not to buy winter clothes. It's good you have someone reliable to watch the condo for you. Yes, I remember the last guy that didn't go so well.
I know you'll miss Orville. The upshot is you won't be too far from your grandchildren.
