It’s a calm, sunny day here in Western Australia but out in the bush, there was a fight going on between two buck kangaroos. Vince was able to get a couple of photos as they were some distance away. This is the best of them. The bucks stand on their hind legs and use their tail to balance on while they bring their hind legs up to kick at the stomach of their opponent. They use their forepaws to scratch at the eyes of the other. The bucks are much larger than the does and have well-developed shoulders and forearms. I wouldn’t want to tackle one.

Fighting over women. We male animals are all the same. Is it worth it?

We're celebrating 49 years together today. Vince says you only get 20 years for murder! lol We're going out for dinner in about 10 minutes. I'm not sure if he'd say it was worth it or not.

Does the winner get a "harem," as with some animals? Or just the "hottest" smelling doe?

Normally it seems a group is supposed to have a 'range' with several does and one buck but we often see 2, 3 or more bucks among our roos. When a doe is in heat, there will be several males hanging around and that's when the fights break out.

Nice shot. I wouldn't want to tangle with one either, I've heard they are dangerous

They are if they are cornered or if the bucks become too used to humans. Mostly, though, they are very timid.

@msdivkar Yes, I think you are right. From where we stood, they looked quite similar. It would be unusual for them to be too different in size. Smaller ones wouldn't normally take on larger ones.

@JudyEv It would be amazing to have roos all around you like you do there. Of course, we have our share of wildlife too. I guess it's just a novelty for me because here if I were to see a roo running around I'd probably call the zoo to see if they were missing one.

One or the other I guess. They seem to share territory here as we often see several bucks in amongst our does. But it's probably breeding season now so there is fierce competition out there now.

@JudyEv Either they learned how to fight maybe in the pouch or maybe they have watched wrestling shows to know how to do it; So, do they kill each other or just beat each other up to put them out of commission for a while.

I guess sometimes they do some damage but generally it seems the weaker one gives in and hops away. They play-fight as youngsters in preparation for adulthood I guess.
