A tricky pony

At the endurance ride, one rider showed Vince how her horse would shake hands on command. Then offer the other leg if asked to. She also had a cat that would ring a bell when it wanted a special food. Normally, it wasn’t given wet food but if it rang the bell then put up first one paw then the other, it would be given a small amount of this particular food it liked. However, after being woken once or twice at 3am, they decided it might be a good idea to hide the bell at night. Sounds like a typical cat, don’t you think? Our little cat had much too much attitude to ever learn tricks. Instead, she taught us a few. The photo is of the hand-shaking pony.

That's a nice photo. Have you managed to teach Vince any tricks lately?

@JudyEv There must be some reason you keep him around, though.

He's not very quick on the uptake when it comes to tricks. Very good with bad habits but not so good with tricks.

Teach a trick to a cat and you will be harassed all the time. I love cats, but they are rulers of the universe.

@JudyEv You can bet he did. When I go out to water the garden the cat of my neighbor joins me, he meows he attacks my foot and does not stop until I stop watering and I offer him a treat.

I can just imagine the cat ringing the bell at some unearthly hour of the morning.

A horse shaking 'hands' is quite rare

@JudyEv We never taught any tricks to our pets but Preiti our pet dog did so many things on her own like pulling out a soiled bedsheet wanting to sleep on a clean one

Very pretty pony. The only thing I've ever been able to teach my cats is to come when I whistle a certain way, of course whenever I did they expected food.

There always seems to be 'food' on the end of teaching tricks.

Yep, it's probably the only way to get kritters to do the things we want and even then it doesn't always work.

She has smart animals. Hiding the bell...that made me laugh. What are those flowers on her seat?

The ride was called 'the enchanted forest ride' so some decorated themselves or their horses.

The riders are all very proud of their mounts. If you ride endurance, you do spend a lot of time with your horse - getting it fit, etc.

You really have to be careful what you wish for, don't you? I'm sure the first time the cat did the trick properly the humans would have been very pleased but now they're not so sure about it all. lol

I remember when I was a child I met a horse who used to dance to the music at parties. It's good that they use to hide the bell at night otherwise the cat would demand the food at night too.

I know in Luxor, Egypt, they taught some of the horses to dance too. I wouldn't like to be getting up at 3 am to answer a bell.
