We've been busy building a shelter

I haven’t posted for a couple of days. As you can see from the collage, we’ve been building a lean-to as a shelter for the caravan. Our friends have a few acres in a suburb called Byford where we used to live some years ago. We were able to park our caravan there and now we’ve added a lean-to to the existing shed. Vince’s brother and our friend who owns the place helped us put it up. Luckily, we started work on the Monday and had it almost finished on Tuesday. The cement footings were put in place on Tuesday afternoon and there were just a few finishing bits to do on Wednesday morning. We had beautiful sunny weather but the rain came in on Wednesday afternoon and it’s been raining on and off since. So we were very lucky that we were able to get it done before the rain came. This will be our last big job which is probably a good thing as parts of it were a bit tricky even with four of us. We’re all over 70 now. But we got there.

It's good to see that people over 70 can still do hard work. Hmmmm, maybe I should get the lead out and do some myself when the temps get down into the 80s.

Yep, but in our summer months it can start out at 80f by 8am so there's little time to do much if you're not an early riser @JudyEv

We wouldn't even attempt this in the summer. Well, we might but we'd be starting as soon as it got light and knocking off when the temps got too high.

I was wondering what you were up to the last few days. I'm glad you got done before the rains came.

They were pretty full-on days and also I've run out of inspiration a bit lately.

@JudyEv How can you run out of inspiration for teasing... people on myLot? My eyes are almost completely swollen shut but here I am... looking for someone who needs to be teased. You wouldn't know anyone, would you? I can just imaging how tired you and Vince, at least, were after that much hands-on work. I do hope you're all feeling better now.

@DaddyEvil So sorry to hear about your eyes. Is it from allergies? Vince had a fortnight with a really bad cold and ended up with a course of antibiotics. He got well just in time to do the shed but he did get really tired doing it. I dropped one of the beams on my foot which hurt at the time but luckily I haven't felt it since which surprised me. Do you talk about people being one-eyed? Staunch supporters of something or other might be said to be 'one-eyed'. I suppose you know about this saying and now I'm worried about sounding patronising. I'm trying to find something to tease you about but not much point if your eyes are swollen shut. You take care now.

Vin's brother suggested we make a start on Monday instead of Tuesday because of the forecast so it was a good call.

@sallypup Somehow, we ordered too much tubing but luckily Vince's brother can use it. He needs a woodshed so it will all work out nicely.

It was our last hurrah so to speak. No more big jobs although we will help Vin's brother build a small woodshed with the leftover material.

This is where we keep it between trips. There is nowhere to park it at our ticky tacky place. We just have to drive ten minutes, hitch up and we can be on our way. We'll use it again in a fortnight for another ride.

@JudyEv Yes it surely would be a terrible cost if you did not have your friends there. Now that is a blessing Judy good for yous xo

@RebeccasFarm No, that is the good thing. We used to be neighbours with these folks but haven't seen them much since we moved down south. However, we've always kept in touch. Now we're back to living not far from them. They are not charging us. There is plenty of room there and the lean-to will add a bit of value to the place when they come to sell it. It would be quite expensive to park it in a storage yard.
