My Sisters Dog Attacked

One of my sisters called today and was telling me about her little dog. I don’t know what breed it is but it’s a tiny dog. I suppose you would call it a lap dog. It can sit up in the window cell. Three large dogs came in her yard and attacked her little Gilly. She had taken Gilly to the vet to get him patched up. She said he’s bandaged all over. All three dogs attacked and were biting him before she could drive them away. They belong to her next door neighbor. My sister called the police and they told her to call animal control. She did and they wrote the neighbor a citation and said that’s all they can do. She said the neighbor had been given several citation but still animal control does nothing and on top of that the vet couldn’t tell her if Gilly will recover. That little dog has been my sisters rock since my brother in law passed away. She’ll be heartbroken if Gilly passes away.

Tell your sister to contact the mayor. If he/she says nothing can be done then contact the city attorney. The CITY is responsible if they won't force the people to do something about things like that!

@RubyHawk If she's in city limits, yes. If not, then no.

She doesn’t live in the city. She lives out in the country. Do you think the mayor or city attorney would do anything?

That is so sad to hear. I hope little Gilly recovers It's strange that animal control didn't do more than issue a citation especially if they've gotten them before. I thought it was a law that a dog or dogs would be removed if they attacked more than once.

@Marty1 I'm not really sure about them being euthanized. I know we have a strict leash law here and you can get cited if your dog gets loose. I don't know how many citations you would get if your dog attacked another dog or a person before it was removed from your household.

When I spoke to my sister this morning she was more hopeful that Gilly would survive. As for neighbors dogs I don’t know what to think. You’d think they would be taken away or the neighbor would be told to fasten them up especially after he’s received other citations .

@Marty1 So did I but these people seem to be getting away with allowing these three large dogs attacking this tiny dog.

Dog owners really are a sad bunch..not your sister or some people..but the narcissistic of them, like to inflict cruel and unusual punishment on other dogs, and creatures and even people by allowing their savage dogs to roam, bite, savage, and kill and maim. As you can tell, I hate them, people like that.

@RubyHawk I witnessed it as a matter of fact the day before yesterday here. Two dogs..a guy left his dog in the truck with the windows open, another dog walking by, both pit bulls..omg that one lept out of the truck and wow tore the other ones ear off nearly. Course I do know accidents happen. How is your sisters dog today?

@RebeccasFarm I don’t know how she is. I’ve called twice and She doesn’t answer. I’m afraid it’s the worst. She’s probably too sad to talk. I’ll give her awhile and call again.

I know. It’s only a horrible unfeeling person who would allow it to happen.

I am so sorry. I am going to report the dogs of a neighbor, they are aggressive and the hedge is not high enough should they decide to jump out. They will do something here.

@RubyHawk - We have a very good animal control here. I am going to take a short video and send to the Mayor.

You should because large out of control dogs can do a lot of harm to other dogs or humans. I hope you have good animal control there.

@LadyDuck That sounds like a good idea. Maybe you’ll get some action. Evidently where my sister lives animal control is worthless.

I can only imagine how she must feel. Some people should not have animals and they should be prosecuted harshly for such things. I hope and pray Gilly will be okay.

@RubyHawk It's a shame people don't teach their dogs right, because now the dogs may have to be put down and those nasty people will probably just get more. I hope it does teach them a lesson though

I’m happy to say little Gilly is well and healthy again. He had a close call but all is well. Thanks for commenting. Hopefully the neighbor dogs won’t bother him again.

She should send her neighbor the vet bill, I do not like people that let their dogs run loose like that.

How awful! I hope the poor dog will recover. If the owners can’t control their dogs, they are responsible!

They are responsible but I wonder if it would pay for the vet bills to prosecute. She’d have to hire a lawyer.

It’s terrible, the police tell her they can’t help and animal control only handed out a citation. The neighbor will likely get off with a small five. The neighbor didn’t even offer to pay the vet bill.

Part of her yard is fenced but when she’s in the yard she lets Gilly out with her. Now she’s afraid to go out in the yard and she won’t be likely to let Gill out of the house if he recovers.

@porwest I think all that matters is the little dog was attacked in his own yard by these large dogs that the owner had already received citations for letting his dogs run loose attacking other dogs. I think his dogs should be taken to a shelter until he fences in an area for them. My sister is looking into it but I don’t know if anything will be done.

@RubyHawk It's a tough call. How much can a pet owner be responsible for their pets anymore than a parent can be held liable for something their kid does? I guess it depends on the situation and circumstances surrounding the events and how severe the incident.

It just burned me up but my sister called me this morning and said Gilly looks a bit better. He took a drink of water and nibbled a little food. She’s thinking about taking the neighbor to civil court but now she’s worried more about Gilly.

I hope Gilly survives, the same thing happened to roomie's stepsister's dog. Another dog came into their yard and attacked it. He was serioously wounded but survived. I don't know if they found the owner or not. I am sure the vet bils were expensive.
