I like to see interesting things when out and about – even more so since joining MyLot, because now I’m always on the lookout for quirky things to photograph and write about! This particular topiary caught my eye, outside a hairdressers establishment on the high street of a town we visited recently. You can see that the whole thing is just shaped over a frame, but nevertheless it still made me smile. I guess the staff have to give it a quick trim every now and then to keep it neat! I wish those kinds of bushes would grow here, it would be neat to give them an interesting shape.

Yeah but most of them need way too much help to actually survive here, the water bills would be out of this world.

@rebelann definitely not worth it then. There's no water to throw around in such a profligate manner these days!

You can do that kind of things with various small-leaved shrubs I think.

@Fleura .......It is really nicely done. It's just that my cataract makes things look weird to me and I have to look at them for a while to figure out what they are.

Same here, when I first glimpsed it I thought it was some kind of bird in flight!

In this case I think it's just grown over a frame and they just trim it to that shape.

That's nice and artistic. I bet it would be some regular trimming work to keep it in shape and look neat

Yes I'm sure they have to snip it every few days so it doesn't lose the detail!

So is this a live topiary, or is it artificial greenery. Hubby is from "back East" in the US. Rhode Island. They have several mansions that the big wigs from New York City used for summer residences. One of them is full of live growing topiary sculptures. That was the only mansion we went to see when we visited. That was years ago but it made good memories.

It is a highly original design ! A comb and a pair of scissors, which says it all what line of business they are in.

When I first glimpsed it from further up the street I thought it was a big bird with its beak open and wings outstretched! But then I realised it was a comb and scissors : )
