What are the chances?

@Fleura I get too much attached to objects. I envy those who do not care sometimes. I almost cried when my refrigerator gave up two weeks ago. I liked it.

@LadyDuck I know, they are almost like friends if they have been with you a long time. We were sad to see the back of our old fridge too, it had been with us since I bought my first house back in 2003 and even then it was given to me for free as it was being thrown out. It stayed with us through 3 and a half years in that house, 9 years in the next house, and then came here and lasted 4 or 5 years, it was part of the family, since before the children!!

It's easy to get attached to a vehicle and imbue it with personality, isn't it?

A real coincidence that I happened to see it at that exact time! Also quite remarkable that the car has lasted so long, I remember when 50,000 miles seemed like an impossible milestone, but nowadays it isn't so unusual and especially for a diesel car like this one.

@RubyHawk It used to be that way, but diesel cars became more and more popular over the past 30 or 40 years, especially for people who do a lot of mileage, like taxis. And at one point the government actually encouraged people to buy diesel cars rather than petrol, because they emit less CO2. But then a few years later they found that diesel engines produce more particulate pollution, so they changed their minds again. By then it was too late for me to change, I won't buy another car until this one expires. I just try to use it less by cycling on local journeys.

@Fleura Maybe because it runs on diesel fuel and of course you take good care of it. I thought only trucks used diesel.

Indeed, to get a sequence like that again the car will have to keep going to 234567 miles!

@Fleura Maybe 234567 miles isn't something within sight but beyond reach.

Oh well, it was neat to at least have noticed you had 123456, I never watch mine closely enough to see when I get that.

I'm already quite a way past this I'm afraid.

I meant, what's the chance that I would have glanced at the milometer at that precise time, and not when it got to 123457, for example. The chances of me having an old car are actually extremely high!

I'm curious now, you'll have to find out what it is!

I would have been really annoyed with myself if it had gone past before I noticed! I had to stop to take the photo, lucky there was a suitable place.

@fleura I love it when the digital clock turns to 12.34. It happens rather frequently, but I find myself shouting ‘yes!’ when it does.

@xFiacre I love it when that happens, too. Or when all numbers are the same.
