Sushi can be raw or cooked and can consist of seafood or vegetables. It is believed that in 1824 the inventor of modern sushi was Hanaya Yohei who invented the type of sushi in which seafood is placed on hand-pressed vinegared rice.
Common seafood used can include squid, eel, yellowtail, salmon, tuna and imitation crab meat. It's served with pickled ginger, wasabi and soy sauce.
Sashimi is thinly sliced raw fish or occasionally meat. It is always served raw and on its own. It is typically served with rice and miso soup in separate bowls. Some proteins include salmon, squid, tuna, octopus, scallops and sea urchin, beef, pork, poultry, goat meat, horse meat and boar.
I personally will not eat any protein raw in the meat and seafood categories.
How about you? Do you like sushi or sashimi? If you haven't tried it, would you?

I like both, my favorite fish are tuna and salmon. I would not eat raw octopus, but I like it cooked. I had raw meat but non in Japanese restaurants. We have an Italian dish called "Carpaccio" in Italy, it is beef cut as tin as paper, seasoned with olive oil, salt, pepper and lemon juice, topped with some Parmesan slices (also paper like).

@marguicha I also add capers, I like the taste. I love cooked octopus as well as squids, but I would not eat raw.

I love fish sashimi. My favorite is tuna and second to it is salmon. I have had raw meat but not in Japanese restaurants. I eat it with wasabi (lots of it), pickled ginger and soy sauce.
For me sushi is more common and not as delicious.

I’ve never had or seen meat sashimi or sushi. If you get sashimi I believe it usually comes with thin strands of daikon radish. It’s really good. I love both sushi and sashimi, however, I think I prefer sushi.

Raw fish, yes. I buy what is called a block, my size block is 2" wide and 6" long. Peru cut for sashimi, yum with warm white rice and diy wasabi sauce. Sushi, I only ate my Mother's sushi, she's gone now. My Mother made the roll sushi or maki sushi & inari sushi, cone sushi. ..sushi rice stuffed in deep fried tofu skins.I like, poki an Hawaiian dish if raw ahi chunks in specialty sauce like wasabi soy along with slices of raw round onions and diced green onions and some with pho, a kind of seaweed used in poki. Yummy, to me.

Yes to both! I love eating sushi and sashimi, and have it at least once a week.

@LindaOHio Make it myself. I’m not a great cook by any means, but I can do wonders with fish.

@porwest It's medium for me. I don't like meat rare.

@LindaOHio No. Not really. I will eat things medium rare, but that's about as far as I will go.

My grandson is having sushi for lunch. I wish we had access to a more authentic sushi bar. I would enjoy more options. Not much available here.

I tried sushi years ago and kept burping it for three days. Now, of course, I'm allergic to any seafood, but based on the prior experience, I would turn it down even if I could eat it.
