My Thanksgiving post

Tomorrow's Thanksgiving Day here in the US. I know our Canadian myloters celebrated last month. We're having our dinner today (our son Robert and grandson Nathan are coming over) instead of tomorrow. I've cooked a ham, mashed potatoes and gravy, stuffing/dressing, broccoli casserole, sweet fried green beans, cranberry sauce (I didn't make that, just opened a can from Ocean Spray. I know some people don't like it, but we do), deviled eggs, fried cornbread, sweet tea, and an Oreo cheesecake. Getting hungry, glad the guys will be here soon. If you're not in the US or Canada, do you have something similar to Thanksgiving? Actually, I believe we should thank God for our blessings every day.

No, we have nothing similar to Thanksgiving here in Europe. Some countries celebrate St.Nicholas the 6th of December, others St.Lucy (the Festival of lights) on December 13th, but no thanksgiving. Happy Thanksgiving and enjoy your meal.

Yes, it's good idea to be thankful all the time. Your meal sounds lovely. I love the cranberries, but the jelly with the rings in it from the can lol. Fried cornbread sounds like a delight. As does sweet fried greenbeans, another thing I've never had.

The green beans are easy, if not the healthiest! I fry some bacon, add a can of drained green beans, brown sugar, a little water and fry until the beans are a little shriveled and the sauce is thickened some.

@FayeHazel It really is pretty much the only way to make canned green beans edible!

@1creekgirl Oh that's interesting, I never would have thought to make a sweeter sauce for them, but I bet that's good

I'm in the U.s. and there's nothing wrong with celebrating early in my opinion.

I've never been really particular about celebrating on the exact day for special occasions.

I wish you and your family a peaceful and happy Thanksgiving. We do not have to look very far to be thankful, every day, which I do with ease. I am however, a little more thankful this year, I found a great Black Friday sale on carseats, and when you need to buy 2 of them, you need a great sale. Enjoy every minute of your family gathering, all of the food, the laughs and the memories that you will make.

I've never had fried corn bread before. I actually want corn bread for tomorrow. Did not see it in the supermarket we were at Sunday. Gonna ask hubby to drive to another one. Maybe they have corn bread there.

Are you looking for baked cornbread? Fried corn bread is very easy to make if you have the right ingredients. You need yellow stone ground plain corn meal, preferably Abbitts Mill (but that's a local brand), a little white flour, salt, black pepper, and hot water.

@1creekgirl I'm going to my parents'.. My sister, BIL, and 6 and 8 year old nephew and niece will be there too. Holidays are still very difficult for me without my ex. I will hang in there for as long as I can but will probably dip after dinner and before dessert.

@1creekgirl I spent all of Thanksgiving and today watching Thanksgiving Day Parades from NYC on YouTube remembering when mom and I used to watch them living in NYC while a turkey was cooking. Now I am glad this holiday is over,

Quite a spread! Ham is an interesting choice over turkey. Is that a tradition in your family. P.S. Oreo cheesecake sounds delicious. Of course, I'm partial to just about anything that begins with cheese We will be having a plain one, pumpkin pie and persimmon pudding for our Thanksgiving desserts.

At Christmas we usually have a turkey and a ham. I've never had persimmon anything. I guess it's pretty good?

@1creekgirl It's excellent! The highlight of desserts for us My brother lives in NC and picked some persimmons up at a store there. Seems there is a sweeter kind, and I must say it was exceptional.
