Not a good start to our holiday

It’s been three days I think since I posted or responded to comments but I haven’t had my computer with me. We arrived in Ireland on Friday and, on Monday, we had to go to the doctor with what seemed like a bad cold. Luckily, we found a doctor just across the street. However, he was worried about Vince’s heart condition and told him to get a taxi to the Emergency Department. No way was he to drive. We weren’t even to wait for our son to travel to get us. Consequently, we left in a bit of a hurry but didn’t take our computers as we expected to be back in a couple of days. We got a taxi halfway and our son met us. After a series of tests, etc, it was established that he had a severe chest infection and he was admitted at 1am. It’s now Good Friday and we’ve just been returned home by our son. Vince is much better but we’ll be taking it easy for a few days to allow him to recover fully. The photo is mine of one of the lovely scenes that we’ve come across so far.

I'm glad that he was treated soon. You still have time to see more later. What's important is Vince's health and yours as well

Thanks. He needed to get well before we bothered about anything else. We are in the same area as our son and DIL and it is them we've come to see rather than doing much sight-seeing but we'll have time for that once Vince has recovered.

@JudyEv that is true. The important thing is that he recovers well

I'm glad you decided to go see a doctor and he sent Vince straight to the ER! Oh, that could have been so bad, Judy! Thank goodness Vince is doing better! The photo is very nice! What are we actually looking at there?

@JudyEv I'm sure Vince was disappointed, but much better for him to get better before anything worse happened. Oh, thank you for the additional information. I wonder if that's what they call an "oxbow lake"?

@DaddyEvil It doesn't quite fit my understanding of an oxbow lake but I wouldn't like to place a bet on it.

When the doctor said he mustn't drive, Vince was sorry he'd gone to him but as it turned out, he would never have got better without treatment. As regards the photo, I think we were at Newport buying fish and chips and looking out over one of the lochs/loughs. I think the hill/mountain in the distance is Croagh Patrick.

I hope he gets well quickly. It was good a doctor was at hand to send Vince right away to the Emergency Department. I'm glad he's taking it easy now. Stay safe too and rest assured we will be here when you get back. Take care. Awesome photo, by the way. Ireland is one of the places I would like to go to in this lifetime.

I'm so pleased we went to the doctor when we did and didn't wait another day or whatever. Thanks for the good wishes. Ireland is a very lovely place.

Thanks. He is on the mend now but we'll be laying low in our unit for a day or two to try to let him get some strength back.

Thank goodness that Vince is out of the hospital and on the mend. You have had enough 'unnecessary' excitement for this trip now, hopefully the rest of the time will be relaxing and alot of fun visiting.

Thanks. It can be quite worrying when someone gets sick in another country. But luckily there was no language difficulty even if some were a bit hard to understand.

@JudyEv Yes, that is a blessing in itself understanding what the doctor had to say and what tests were being ordered. I hope that he can relax, recover and enjoy the rest of his visit.

Thanks. It's just as well he went to the doctor. There is no way he would have recovered from this just by staying home and resting.

Well, that wasn't much fun. Don't do it again! Must have been all that airplane air that congested him.

You're quite right. It wasn't much fun. I was just pleased that our son could take over much of the responsibility and ferry me to and from the hospital.

@JudyEv Yikes, seriously. With his age, and having underlying conditions...think it is best to always err on the side of caution.

There was some infection marker that was 275 but should have been 5 or less so it was probably a very good thing that he went to the doctor. He very nearly didn't.

@RasmaSandra I do hear a language I don't recognise but I think it is Ukraine (if they have their own language). There is a great number of Ukrainian refugees here.

Thanks. We've been very grateful to have our son nearby. It's been a tremendous comfort and a great help with him getting me to the hospital and back sometimes twice a day. It's only ten minutes from his home.

I hope you both had health insurance, that is a worst nightmare to become unwell, and sick, whilst overseas on a holiday, meant to be relaxing, rather than stressful, like that.
