How Do You Like Your Steak?

The word "steak" originated from the mid-15th century Scandanavian word "steik" or "stickna;". The Middle English dialect and Old Norse term was "steikja"; and in a 15th century cookbook beef and venison steaks were referred to as "stekys". Steaks can come from a variety of animals -- cattle, bison, camel, kangaroo, ostrich, deer, fish such as swordfish and shark, and much more. There are many grades and cuts of beef steak -- Select, Choice, Prime, Wagyu, Kobe, Tenderloin/Filet, T-Bone, Porterhouse, Sirloin, Ribeye, Strip, Flat Iron, Tri-Tip, Hanger, Skirt, Flank and Prime Rib. There are also many ways to have your steak prepared -- steak tartare, rare, medium, well done and many points in between. How do you like your steak prepared? I like mine medium. Do you like your steak with a sauce? No, unless it's sauteed mushrooms in a sauce What cut of steak do you prefer? Filet What sides do you like? Medium rare is my favorite, but better rare than well done. I like a Bernaise sauce with some cuts, my favorite is the Chateaubriand steak with Bernaise sauce. Filet is good to make aTournedos Rossini I also like Steak Tartar time by time.

@LindaOHio It's a delicious sauce served warm, hard to make, I missed it several times before doing it right.

I’m an oddball because I like my steak well done, when I have it. I rarely eat it because I have a mild beef allergy and too much can make me sick. I don’t know exactly where the “tipping point” is and I’m not too keen on finding out through trial and error. But I like my beef cooked.

I like rare steak too, DE. I hate it when they are overdone and no red/pink. If there is a mushroom/onion around, I enjoy them along with the steak. I don't want steak sauce on a really nice steak. I love it served with a baked potato, and a small salad. Yum, yum. Now, I want one!

I like a nice sirloin steak medium rare with sauteed mushrooms and onions. Give me a baked potato as a side and I'm a happy camper.

I haven't had a good sirloin steak in decades. My FIL used to make outstanding sirloins on the grill.

You’ve given me so many choices that I don’t know! When I was younger I opted for well done steak, which seems odd to me now. These days I too go for a steak cooked medium, and I don’t really need anything, but a good marinade. The perfect side to me for a steak is a baked potato, no butter, with sour cream, cheddar cheese, chives, and tiny bits of bacon. That’s my ideal baked potato, anyway. I really want one right now!

Filet Mignon cooked medium rare, no sauce if it’s been seasoned, aged and marinated well. Longhorn Steakhouse is one of my favorites, they seem to know how to cook steak consistently well.

I would love to try an ostrich steak. And a kangaroo one. I did have a kangaroo burger once and it was really good. I prefer my steak medium-rare. And I am ok if it is on the rarer side. But I don't like overcooked steak. Don't get how people can eat a well done steak. I love rib-eye and filet mignon but I also enjoy t-bone or porterhouse if I can get it.

I like any well done beef steak, at times we add fried mushrooms. Catsup is my only sauce, I add it with almost all cooked meat. Sides, I like a baked potato with low-fat cottage cheese, salt & pepper. Green vegetables, any of them go fine with a steak.

I like my steak a little pink...but mostly brown, not sure what that is technically called lol. I do like steak sauce with mine...and butter is always good. I like different cuts of steaks, depending on how they are being prepared. Just to eat as a steak, probably chuck Top round for Finger steaks, cubed for chicken fried steak. With a steak you gotta have a baked potato! lol That's what we always had with a steak when I was growing up
