Have You Ever Met a Celebrity?

In my teens I had an opportunity to meet a lot of DJs and visit the studio. I saw a lot of local celebrities going in and out of the building. During my high school years I took classes in the summer at Cain Park Theater. Various celebrities would star in the shows there; and we, as students, got to spend a little bit of time with them. I met Bobby Vinton, Dion and Paul Peterson (who was very rude). I was backstage after one of Bobby's performances; and his friend, George Maharis, was there. I wish I could post pictures. One of the execs from the local radio station got us backstage passes to the ALSAC Show in Cleveland. Bobby Vinton was there; and I shared pix from Cain Park with him. Danny Thomas was the host; and all the DJs from the local radio station were there and a lot of singing groups that you probably wouldn't recognize. How about you? I know @FourWalls has met her share. What celebrities have you met? Photo Credit: Bobby Vinton (I know it won't post.)

I have met several, but those I loved more to meet were Sean Connery, who was a real gentleman. Then David Niven, Cary Grant, several other Hollywood actors who came to Monte Carlo to see Princess Grace Kelly. I met Grace Kelly, a beautiful woman with a big heart.

Those are pretty cool! The ones I have met aren’t well known in these day and times. I’ve met Ben Johnson, of old Westerns fame, a soap actor from As the World Turns, and Wanda Jackson. I was honored to meet Ben Johnson (didn’t know who he was at the time) and Wanda Jackson.

@LindaOHio I thought you might know Wanda Jackson. I had no idea at the time who she was. It was only later I found out about her many accomplishments. I think @FourWalls might be one of two people on Mylot familiar with Wanda Jackson.

@AmbiePam — ooh, Wanda! I have a photo of her and me together. Can’t believe that she was 78 when I saw her and STILL knocked the walls down with her vocals!!! @LindaOHio would probably remember “Let’s Have a Party” if she heard it.

I have met a few. The most famous was Oprah. She was very down to earth and briefly chatted with me and let us take photos. She is from a town about 40 mins from my Mississippi home. We have seen her several times.

@Marilynda1225 She did two visits that I recall that were free and I went. She gave an inspirational talk and answered questions from the audience. They both lasted about 2 hours. One was in her hometown and the other was at a school south of us. A handful of my family members and I went to both. They were both very enjoyable.

Jim O'Brien was a newscaster for ABC in Philadelphia when I was growing up. He also was a host of Dialing For Dollars, a game show we were a member of the audience for. He talked to everyone in the audience after the show. Sadly he was killed in a sky diving accident in 79 or 80. Robert Woods and Andrea Evans who both stared on One Life To Live in the 80s. They came to the mall I was working at for a meet and greet. During a concert Billy Joel shook our hands. It was during a blizzard when I was in college in Boston. Hardly anyone went but those who did got up closer to the stage and he shook everyone's hand. Those are the only celebrities I have met

I have met some local celebs but no national ones. I was surprised to get an email from a popular sci-fi author once year ago. Her name is Andre Norton and she wrote the Witch World series among other things. She was asking me to help her to publicize her newest book. I also got a picture and letter from Don Johnson. I told him he should do a cop series on TV and he did soon after that. Miami Vice.

Lots of musicians and a few actors. The one I crow about is having met Harry Anderson when he was doing a comedy/magic tour during a Night Court summer hiatus. What a sweetheart! The one I was brutally disappointed with was Bill Murray…he was a jerk.

@LindaOHio My childhood girl friend and I when we were in College, flew to Los Angeles during a Spring Break. Her brother lived there with his wife and daughter. So we stayed with them. We borrowed their car to site see. During the trip, we learned that Calvin Klein would be at one of the nearby Malls promoting a new clothing or cologne. It said he would be signing autographs. So we went, waited in line and said hi to him and one of his models who was a part of the event and got his autograph. He signed it on a flyer that promoted his new product.

I would have said no, but I guess that depends how famous someone needs to be to count. I have met Michael Palin (comic actor, TV personality and writer) at a charity event, and Peter Duncan (TV presenter, actor and director) in the theatre. I was taught by Professor Sir Richard Southern (inventor of the technique of separating DNA known as Southern blotting) and I have served lunch to the Sultan of Perak, Malaysia.

@FourWalls Oh good, at least one you have heard of! I have met a few authors as well actually, but they are probably not well known. Colin Dexter probably the most widely known. And one of our neighbours is John Dewey, a key proponent of the theory of plate tectonics (but I suspect he isn't well known outside the field of geology!)

@LindaOHio She was a PR person at a horse place where I volunteered when I lived In in Santa Barbara. I trained a certain horse (Fleetwood) not to be afraid of the wheel chair ramp for when we did a promo thingie at local "big money"' horse show. She was nice, and more "petite" than I expected her to be. She was pretty, but pretty in the way I call "pretty by lack of imperfection."

Not really, and never in person. I did see Richard Moll and Jamie Farr in an airport once, but never "ran into" them. I have worked with several that I suppose in a way you could call celebrities, when I was editor of FrightNet as Ivan S. Graves. Peter Straub, who wrote The Talismnan with Stephen King. T.M. Wright. Douglas Clegg. Michael Laimo. Greg Kihn of the song "Jeopardy" fame (yep, he was also a horror writer). That being said, I am not a giddy person when it comes to celebrities. I tend to simply view them as regular people that more people simply know about because of what they do. Besides, like Cindi Lauper once said on an episode of The Celebrity Apprentice when one of the other celebrity contestants was fit to be tied with her when she told her, "You were my idol when I was a teen," "If you want your idols to remain idols never meet them in person." I think there's some truth to that.

I met Sue Rinaldi from Christian pop group Heartbeat, I met Gareth Gates, I met the members of another Christian rock band, I nearly met Rick Wakeman, but I was too nervous to say Hi so I just walked passed, and I was less than a metre away from Martin Smith from Delirious? at a concert at Alton Towers when he came up to the barrier. Also, when I went to see Delirious? in Wolverhampton, we found their tour bus and we were standing over the road from it singing Delirious? songs like "Find Me In The River" while splashing in the water that was running in the gutter and making utter fools of ourselves! Then, one by one, they came out of the tour bus, waved at us, and then went into the venue! They'd been in there watching our every move and we didn't realise it!
