Do you prefer to work alone or in a team?

Do you like working on your own or do you like to have company? Personally I think I like to be part of a team. Although I can work on my own pretty well, and for my paid work I concentrate better with no distractions, I still like to have people around for a break-time chat, and we can encourage each other to get on with things! Apart from that I’m definitely better at doing practical things when I have a bit of company and moral support. Today for example I have a long list of jobs to do, as usual (the list just gets longer by the minute because I’m always thinking of more things to do, or else events conspire against me and give me things to fix!) but there was also an appeal for more helpers to build the set for the village pantomime. I could have spent a few hours trying to fix my latest car problem (the heater has stopped blowing air) which would of course save me a hundred pounds or so if I could sort it out and save a visit to the local garage. Or I could help with the theatrical stuff, which provides nothing but job satisfaction. I chose the latter, and spent a fun couple of hours helping to create a papier maché cauldron and build a plywood and polystyrene throne. There were six or seven of us there, and it was nice to share ideas and come up with effective solutions between us. The thing that makes it work was that it was a genuine shared effort, no-one tried to take over or drown out anyone else. I’ll try and get to the car problem tomorrow. There is no connection to the photo, it's just a nice autumnal picture. All rights reserved. © Text copyright Fleur 2023.

I prefer to work alone, I feel that I can concentrate much better and then the work, and even the errors, I can own and learn from.

When it was related to school, I preferred to do it by myself because I always inevitably get stuck doing at least one other person’s work because they didn’t care as much as the rest of us. I never wanted my grade depending on someone else’s work. In other areas, I like working in a fairly small group. When you get people who listen to each other, you never know what fun thing you can come up with. The last job I had before I went on disability was really enjoyable because the ladies I worked with made such a collaborative team on so many things. I love the pretty picture!

That is a lovely autumn photo. Is this pantomime for display or a play? It depends on the project if I rather do it alone or as a team. I'm retired from a paid job now. As a volunteer and occasional care worker, I like working with others collaborating on the best approach to some areas of need.

I can work with others but some 'others' can be difficult to work with. I work okay on my own too. I used to procrastinate a lot but I've got over most of that. I mostly work better with a deadline though.

I like working by myself since it is more fun not having to look over my shoulder living in fear saying something is considered offensive.

In serious paying work, I'm mostly for going it by myself. I find it helps me focus better and get through whatever it is that I just do a bit more efficiently as I don't have to consider the rest of the team's hangovers, tiredness, emotional immaturity etc. For leisure and charity activities that do not really have a productivity measurement, I'll go with teams anytime as it allows a more social atmosphere. Love the autumn picture!

I do have a preference for working alone. Although that being said, I don't mind working in a team either.

It is a combination of both There are situations when I do not want interference and yet there are situations where I would like to have people around me.

It sounds like you had such a delightful and productive day! I can imagine the satisfaction of contributing to something creative and seeing the tangible results of your shared effort. I prefer to work alone and that is one of weaknesses.

It doesn't really make a difference to me if I work alone or with someone else... I do fine either way. I hope you can figure out your car problem. Good luck with it.

Teamwork indeed. When it comes to my writing, I prefer to write and outline on my own, but brainstorm and edit, I need all the help I can get from my friends.

From my past experiences I think I accomplish more working alone. Although it is much more fun working in a team for the reasons you mentioned.

I prefer to work independently. Its just how I am, working alone suits my style and personality. I focus more and do more when I work on my own but if the job calls for teamwork then I am flexible too to work with people.

I don’t work anymore, but when I did, it depended on what task I was doing, whether I preferred working solo or in a team. Team work is fun but can lead to distractions. If I had a deadline for a project, I preferred working alone so I could concentrate. WFM was great for that, but could be lonely if I then wanted ‘the team’ around me but they were too busy.

I prefer to work alone. I notice that I work better and faster if I am alone and with no distractions.

I can work both in a team and alone. I like working in a team if there's cooperation otherwise I would better work alone.

I don't mind working in a team but in general I prefer to work alone, this way I don't depend on others.

It depends on the job at hand. I like both. I prefer working by myself if I'm doing accounting or detail work. Have a good week.

For me, I have always preferred to work alone. Get out of my way and stay out of my way. I have things to get accomplished and I can't have others slowing me down. lol
