3/7/24 - Update on My Husband

My husband is still in ICU; and his heart is still in AFIB. They are supposed to transfer him to a regular room; but I have no idea when that is going to happen. Hubs says that he likes it there in ICU and has a room all to himself.
He was very chatty when we visited yesterday. He still needs some assistance when it comes to eating...cutting up his meat, opening pop cans, etc. His hands need some therapy.
We were there for his therapy session. He sat on the edge of the bed with assistance...then they got him up on his feet with assistance. His heart rate shot up to 152; so they immediately aborted the session. His AFIB is going to be a consideration in his therapy and recovery. There has been conversation about transferring him back to the rehab facility; but no date as yet.
Cleveland Clinic was literally a zoo when it came to traffic. Traffic coming into the facility was backed up to across the street. We have been using Valet Parking. It's the quickest and easiest way to get a parking space. They charge $10 a day to park.
Today is the last day that my SIL can take me to see him. She leaves for Phoenix tomorrow; and I will be on my own again. :-(
Thank you for your continued support and prayers.

I hope that they can do something for his AFIB, that would make a world of difference in his rehabilitation.
Even though your sister-in-law may be leaving, you are never alone, you have all of us here on myLot to support you.
Unfortunately, it is remotely but it is heart-felt.

@JudyEv Yes. I already am having trouble doing things. I don't think they're going to do anything more about the AFIB.

I am very sorry to hear the news regarding your spouse. Hopefully, he recovers quickly. I suppose having a loved one in that circumstance can be extremely stressful. His state appears to be improving, as evidenced by his talkativeness, which is a positive indicator. If he can regain his strength, that is all that is left to do, I suppose.

I think that until his heart rate shots up when they move him, they cannot transfer him. At the rehab they do not have the necessary equipment to be of help. I am sorry your SIL is going back home, it will be hard for you to visit your husband from tomorrow. Take care Linda and best wishes to your husband.

@LindaOHio - I hope they can help him at the rehab, I hope it's different from the previous place where he was sent and no one took care of him.

Since he is in a room to himself why are they moving him and I wonder why people do not listen to the patient and ask them what they want. I will continue to pray for you both.

You are welcome for my prayers. Will he be moved to a regular room in the same place or another place that you are happy about?

I am glad he is chatty and that he likes it there. I hope they figure out what to do about his Afib, and fill you in on the plan, as well.

Nothing more is being done about the AFIB other than his meds. He is being transferred tomorrow to rehab.

That is good except for the heart rate.I hope he doesn't relapse with no one coming to see him. You know an idea...I am not sure if you are on that Nextdoor network..but you could maybe get some neighbors to visit him..if he goes back to the rehab...Maybe the VA could find somewhere better for him though..that place didn't sound very good.

My hubby seemed to like the physical therapists in rehab. I didn't care for most of the staff there. We will see what happens when he goes back tomorrow.

I hope you can find other transportation so you can see him. He will need family now. That AFIB is rather scary. Hope that gets under control soon.

They can't seem to get his AFIB under control with meds; and they can't keep shocking his heart.

I know having your sister-in-law there with you has been a blessing. I hope someone else can help you when she returns home.
It will take him time to regain some of his strength back. Have the doctors discussed what they will do about his AFib? Mike's brother has it and had his heart shocked back into rhythm the first time. Last month he had another episode but wouldn't shock his heart again. They did something different, not sure what though.
Continued prayers
