4/4/24 - Update on My Husband

I called the Admissions person at the new rehab facility; and she hadn't received the Referral as yet. I will call the Social Worker today at the current facility and find out how long it takes for this to be completed. I talked to my husband last night. He says the walking is slow going. He doesn't like that they leave him in the wheelchair for an hour or more each day. I told him it helps strengthen his core, rather than have him lie in bed all day. His godson/cousin is taking me to visit him tomorrow night. He can work from anywhere and won't be done until after 5 tomorrow night. My husband has been gone for 9 weeks now. Way too long. Thank you for your continued prayers, thoughts and support. Photo Credit: Pixabay

@LindaOHio As OPWA's President, I may write them a nasty letter. Or visit them with my biggest walking stick (cut from a local live oak tree).

Encourage him to wheel himself around, etc. It will get him stronger. Or use his feet while sitting to propel himself. If it has foot rests on it, they can be turned aside.

At least you are getting to go. Don't you think you or someone you trust should have a look at the new facility first to see if it is any better than where he is now? How is it ranked?

Hubby has been there before and really liked it. They didn't have beds available when we were looking for a place a couple of weeks ago.

@LindaOHio It is definitely hard being away from your husband for that long. Especially when you don’t know everything that is going on when you are not with him.

@lovebuglena His PT did not go well. His knee and hip gave out. He needs to be able to walk before they will let him go.

I can't believe it's been 9 weeks now. Right - it is better for him to be upright in different positions rather than sticking to the bed - keep things moving as much as possible. Glad you will be able to visit tomorrow night. Yah, I'd keep bugging them about the referral and all.

I do not think he will like what ever they going to do in rehab, I wouldn't but he needs to understand to get him movable again. At same time needs to be compromises to let him visit family in person, nothing motivates people more than in person visits. Might mean people care. The lack of common sense in this world still amazes me. I can invent AI but can you tell when someone misses their family after a hard ordeal, no that is what AI is for.

Yes, sitting up helps rebuild his core strength and it helps prevent bed sores and pneumonia. I can’t imagine how you’re bouncing off the walls without him. Hang in there!

@LindaOHio That is understandable, especially when you’ve been together as long as you two have and you’re used to the companionship every day.

Tell him you know a jerk who calls himself The Horse. Tell him I said to do his own dang physical therapy. If he's sitting in a wheel chair, try to raise each leg an inch. If it doesn't work, reach down with your hands and help your legs. If you get a cramp, demand some Gatorade. With a pinch of salt. I am pissed off. They should be helping him at every moment. I saw a "caretaker" never remove an infant from her car seat the whole two hours said infant was at the facility. Sorry. I'll put my pyramid hat on now.

Is that social worker employed by that rehab? Maybe your hubbies insurance can help you with some of that.

Laying in bed is not at all good for your husband, they should find something for him to do. If he cannot stand to walk, may be they should use a motorized mini exerciser pedal bike. Even if he does not make efforts, it helps to recover strength. Those pedal exerciser are not at all expensive, I think a rehab center should have them.

@LadyDuck They are charging $5,800 per week for a semi-private room. He should get PT twice a day and on weekends and he should have a phone.

Hope the referral comes through and your hubby can be transferred. Wow 9 weeks certainly is a long time but hopefully he'll be back home in a few weeks or so. It must be terribly hard being home by yourself and also for him to be away for so long.
