Some of us onylot are a bit long in the tooth.Have you thought about whether you want to be in your own home, Assisted Living, with family or a nursing home? I was asked this question on a site, and I hadn't,t really thought about it..but something we need to consider as we age.

That option looks pretty good. Certainly the least expensive However, we could get to the point where we aren't capable of it anymore

My husband says he will do something to himself before he goes into a nursing home. Six years ago we started thinking about retirement. I am addicted to old houses. We knew we needed to be closer to public transportation. We moved in two years ago. Hubby had a 2nd bathroom installed in the second floor. This house is our final house. We're done buying and selling. If we get more infirmed we will sleep in the downstairs bedroom- my junk room at this point.

Assisted living and nursing homes are alot better than they used to be..I have seen some beautiful ones, and they can provide companionship if you need it..but..not keen on in the idea of being warehoused until I die..

@snowy22315 I have deep worries about the meals in nursing homes. I must have fiber rich food and fresh vegies to be healthy.

@snowy22315 That’s a horrible disease. I’m so sorry.
It will most likely depend on wha state our health is in when we, or someone, has to make that decision.
Truthfully, passing away in your own bed at home would be ideal.

@snowy22315 Oh for sure. I do hope to have many years before I have to think about it.

I often think of it. I have no choice. I don't have kids, and all cousins are either abroad or older than I. Their kids too are abroad. In any event, they would be around only to get monies, not to look after me. LOL.
I have short listed a few options. I have to work the details. I am hoping a better option will be available by the time I need it. When I started searching, some 20 odd years, the only option was not so nice, but it was an option. Subsequent options have been better. So I hope by the time I really need such facilities, more would have mushroomed.

I think it is good that you are thinking of and planning it now. That gives you a head start.

am very dependent on my husband.
I cannot fathom living on if he passes before I do.
Our son has already said that he would come and move me in with them.
I think that I would like a retirement home, where I wouldn't have to do laundry, clean or cook my meals. That is for people in their mid to late 70's, so if it happened before that, I would be living at our son's place.

We always wanted to live out our last days in the Florida Keys; but the average price on the Key we are interested in is $500,000. So we will stay in our home as long as we can. It's a ranch; so we can maneuver well. Have a good weekend.

Though, historically, elderly homes are not a very common option for a family in my area. Typically, our kids are left in charge of us. However, in a few uncommon instances, some people thought that the aged home would be a sensible option for families unable to care for their elderly parents.

I do think most people prefer to stay in their homes, but there might come a time when it is no longer possible.

Odds are I’ll die fairly young (I’m at peace with that), but if I start to go downhill, with government insurance there is no option for assisted living; it’s straight to a nursing home. I told my sister and Amyra if they have to put me in a home, to find one with no roaches.
