5/21/24 - Update on My Husband

I called the Business Office again to get a rundown of the charges for the $1,218. I left a message that I triple-checked with the insurance company; and the only claim that's been processed has us owing $120. She didn't call me back. Called my favorite Social Worker to find out if my husband could be switched to long term and if he would get physical therapy 5 days a week.. The insurance company said it's $300+ per day for the first 7 days...after that it's 100% covered. The sooner we can switch over the better because currently we are on self-pay. I called and left a message for her twice; but she didn't call back so I called the Admissions Director. She wasn't able to help me. She forwarded my message to the Social Worker. Hopefully she will call today. Hubs is doing OK. PT went OK. Thank you for your continued support, prayers and thoughts. Photo Credit: Pixabay

That place is not good, the Social Worker is of no help, I agree that the sooner they move your husband, the better.

Te psychologist in me KNOWS that things that increased predictability and controllability decrease cortisol levels, leading to stronger immune systems and resistance to illness, not to mention increased longevity, reduced anxiety, and reduced depression. When they make older people feel helpless, the opposite happens. Is it hyperbole to say that the "powers that be" implicitly want to kill off us old folks, as we're a tad expensive to keep alive, healthy and happy?

You might have to mention that you’re considering getting an attorney, just to see if that puts a fire under their butts. If not, I’ll go down to Fort Knox and borrow a flamethrower.

I can't believe the ongoing lack of returning your phone calls. It's even more of mystery that the Director wasn't able to help. Hope he can get transferred to long term care.

The rep from the insurance company was wrong. I figured she was and called again. There is NO coverage for long-term care.

Maybe the $1,218 is what they charged your insurance company and the insurance company only charged you $120 for your co pay

The Business Office woman called Corporate. They could not tell her what the charges were for; so she told them to refund the money.

Leaving a message for the Business Office about the insurance discrepancy was a good step. It’s concerning that they haven’t called back yet, given the large difference between what the insurance says you owe and what the office is billing. Persistence is key here, so keep following up.

I have my sphinx look on. No emotion. No anger. For that cost, you could fly me in or a week and put him in a cheap hotel. I would cook him great meals, give him PT, and have conversations with him to increase his "cognitive fitness." I will read on now.
