Sometime during this simultaneous countdown of my all-time favorite charted country songs and rock/pop songs you’re going to look at the two songs and think, ”Really????” This might be one of those times. What can follow the greatness of country legend Marty Robbins? This. Bad Moon Rising - Creedence Clearwater Revival Yep, there’s a bathroom on the right. Not the only misunderstood thing about this song, either. With all of the songs that John Fogerty wrote, hiding multiple meanings in the lyrics, most people figured this was about the escalation of events in Vietnam. Fogerty, instead, said it was really about a hurricane. It was inspired by watching The Devil and Daniel Webster. And, of course, you have this great, upbeat song talking about “the voice of rage and ruin.” This is one of five songs that CCR had that peaked at #2. They never had a #1 hit…like that matters to their legacy. Bad Moon Rising Written by John C. Fogerty Recorded by Creedence Clearwater Revival From Green River, 1969 Peak chart position: #2 Today’s country song: “Begging to You” It’s bound to take your life:

Love this song. Trouble is that now that you've clued us about the creep that wouldn't let Fogerty use his own material I have to wonder if there are any royalties being paid because we're listening to this

Yes, Fogerty now owns the rights to his own songs. He got them in early 2023. So dance away!

I like most of CCR's music. Silly lyrics seem to be a part of this era.

Not silly as much as misheard. Gotta wonder what people were smoking to hear “bathroom on the right.”

Ahh, from the boys that weren't Born on the Bayou. A great pick. Of course, you could include those other #2's on the list and your 100 charted wouldn't "miss a beat." No pun intended, well sort of.

One of those songs that will never die or become old, and Fogerty's story is a rather interesting one. I mean, for a while he wasn't even able to perform his own songs.

Yeah, he just got the rights to the CCR songs he wrote back (or actually obtained them for the first time) in January 2023.

@FourWalls You mentioned misheard lyrics, so I thought you might like this from one of our top comedians, Peter Kay.

@FourWalls He’s great! Do you like his accent? He’s from Bolton. Apart from being a standup comedian, he’s been in a few made-for-tv shows. If you never seen them, checkout: Phoenix Nights Max and Paddy’s Road to Nowhere - a spin-off from Phoenix Nights Car Share All very funny.

You should know today’s as well. Hopefully it’ll keep you humming so you have NO curiosity about the country song (not that you would, anyway, but…just want to keep the migraines away!).

That’s a classic switch-up from Marty Robbins to CCR! "Bad Moon Rising" is such a catchy tune, even if people still mishear the lyrics. It’s cool to learn it’s actually about a hurricane rather than what many thought. CCR’s #2 hits definitely didn’t diminish their legacy; their music still rocks. As for “Begging to You,” that sounds like a great country tune to round out the playlist.
