Five Years, 108,000 Miles, Ready to Go!

This morning I saw a note in my inbox from the Honda dealership. It congratulated me on the fifth anniversary of buying Be Still (or Bestill), my 2020 CR-V. Yes, “Be Still” is a strange name for a car. Cars, by their creation, are meant to NOT be still. The name comes from Psalm 46:10, which admonishes believers to “Be still and know that I am GOD.” That’s one of the things I love to do when I’m traveling and see something incredible in nature: stop and remember God Who created it. Of course, there are also songs called “Be Still.” I think my favorite one is by The Fray, although I also like The Killers’ song. And, of course, there’s a contemporary Christian song called “Be Still and Know,” by Steven Curtis Chapman. Coincidentally enough, today my odometer hit 108,000 miles exactly. That’s 21,600 miles a year. The great thing about Hondas is that they, with a number of other brands (like Toyota and Subaru), have a longstanding reputation for being very reliable cars. This car hasn’t given me any trouble (save for an oil leak…which was caught very early by an eagle-eyed mechanic so it could be fixed before it caused any problems). I have the car serviced regularly at a Honda dealership. Yes, that might cost me a few dollars more than going to the instant oil change place; however, the mechanics know my car (as evidenced by them catching the oil leak and a place where mice had chewed a couple of the wires). Of course, many of those 108,000 miles have been put on the car while taking trips, and you’ve been along in the back seat figuratively. Here’s to the next five years and 108,000 miles!!! The photo is a screen grab of the e-mail the Honda dealer sent.

@MarieCoyle hahaha this is why I don't care about gas prices even though my go-kart requires supreme. I can get like 3 weeks out of those 10 gallons.

@NJChicaa Girl, you need to go on road trips and such at times...get away from it all. That little car needs to get out and boogie, as @FourWalls says!

Honda makes good reliable vehicles. We had one Honda Civic that made it to 300K miles and it was still going. I’m glad it’s been such a great car for you!! “Be still” is one of my favorite verses.

It’s a good reminder for when the world gets too crazy.

@FourWalls It certainly is. I never realized for a long time that many people know of that verse, but they seem to think it just means, be quiet, or sit still. They think in the literal sense, I guess. Physical stillness can be part of it, of course, but we know it means to stop and connect, to replenish your spirit, to find peace in God's creations and in his presence in our lives...to ''Be still'' is a necessary gift you give to yourself.

I've enjoyed riding along with you on your trips and the best part, you don't ask me to contribute to the gas kitty. I keep getting notices from my insurance that they offer a discount if I drive less than 50 miles a day and run an app on my phone to prove it so they can see exactly where I go, at what time I go and how fast I drive. I'll keep paying the regular premium on my insurance, thank you. All they really need to offer that discount is to take my mileage today and then check it in a year... but they want to sell the data from my driving habits and not pay me anything for the data.

You pay the gas kitty by reading, so that’s good. You’re right about the app.

Normally Hondas last a good long while. I keep the oil changes up to date, which is one of the most important things in car maintenance.

I had a Subaru sedan, and it was a great car. Five-year check-up up huh? That's about when I get mine.
