Allergies...

The tree and grass pollens are extremely high in my part of the US right now. My face is swollen out of shape and it's noticeable from a distance... I've been coughing and sneezing for the last few days and my throat feels raw. I stayed inside yesterday where we have filters on the air intakes to keep the worst of the pollen at bay but, sometimes, we have to go outside, no matter how bad the pollen is. Are you having similar problems with pollen this year. I don't remember it being this bad before... Maybe I'm more sensitive to it now than I was before. I don't know.

I am sneezing today, yesterday it did not rain, I did laundry and went out on the balcony to hang. The tree pollens are also extremely high here.

@DaddyEvil -ON NO! No more rain for a while I hope. It rained 7 days in a row, but as soon as it stops the pollens are around.

@LadyDuck Rain is the only way to clear the air, though... I know you don't want it but...

I'm sorry you're having some of the same problems. I hope you get rain soon to help clear the air. We're supposed to get more rain tomorrow. That should clear the air for a day before the pollen gets bad again.

I’ll be heading to California in the next few days. While I’m not usually prone to allergies, there are times when my allergic rhinitis flares up unexpectedly. I’m hoping the place I’ll be staying won’t be too bad, as I’ve never had an allergic reaction during my time in New York before.

@DaddyEvil Thank you. My sister, whom I will be meeting there, is usually the one sensitive to allergies. I might consider asking her for medication in case my allergies are triggered during the trip. Hopefully, this will not happen, and I can fully enjoy my time there.

@rsa101 I'm sorry your sister is also sensitive to pollens... Let's hope you won't need any meds during your trip.

When I arrived in NZ, I didn't know it's going to be a thing for me because in the Philippines, I don't suffer much no matter how polluted the air maybe or if there's even a pollen present, but I've been sneezing so much here. Days passed, it stops, and I don't know if my body already got immune to it or I'm not just too allergic to it. I'm hoping for your recovery though. Allergies are hard to deal with, and it stresses people out.

@DaddyEvil I do hope so because it's stressful and we have to deal with the upcoming winter next month.

Thank you. Normally, trees and grass only bloom for a month or month and a half where I live and I don't have a problem after that. We're about half-way through the blooming season for the trees and grass that I'm allergic to. It's probably the same in NZ... The plants you're allergic to have already stopped blooming. I hope you don't have allergies to them again next year. Good luck!

I have not experienced any allergies so far. Years ago there was a weed called Parthanium which our government went all out to eradicate in Bangalaore. This weed caused respiratory issues.

There is a weed here called ragweed that causes bad allergic reactions, worse than the ones I'm having now, but it blooms in the late summer and early fall... I make sure I have lots of antihistamines when it's blooming. I wish the government here would do something about ragweed.

I am sorry it's hitting you so hard. Mine mostly seems to be the eyes watering and waking up sneezing. That's bad enough, but it sounds like your allergies are truly severe. I hope it improves for you soon.

I am sorry that you are suffering so terribly. I am sensitive to the pollen, but it doesn't get too terrible that I compare at all with how you describe you are feeling. I hope that you can find some relief today, maybe resting inside today and tomorrow. I would imagine that it will take your body a while to get over several days of this.

Thank you. I take Benadryl when things get bad like this and that lets me sleep. If it gets worse, I can always give myself a shot with an epi-pen to open my air passages.

That must be awful. I think we do get more sensitive to things as we age.

It's definitely not fun. I've gotten more sensitive to several things I'm allergic to that I didn't have a problem with when I was younger.

Nobody can understand what we go through when we suffer with hayfever if they don't have it themselves. Mine hasn't started yet, but it will only be a few weeks i reckon. Mine seems to be worst at night now, when the pollen is coming back down.

Just now
My maroon car is yellow-y green now from all the pollen on it. It's so fun to clean it off! I hope you don't have as much trouble as I've had this year. I even wear a mask outside and it doesn't seem to help very much.

Thankfully I don't seem to have any allergies, but you never know. I've been told you can develop them in later life

True... I didn't have any allergies when I was younger but have developed them starting around 15 or so years ago and they seem to be getting worse and time goes on.

Sorry for what you are experiencing. Pollen grains are known to give people common cold here in our rural Kenya. We mostly do not weed maize when they are flowering. However I suggest you find some anti-allergy prescriptions to help reduce the effects

I do take anti-allergy meds every day and they often don't help. I never could go into corn when it was flowering and I lived on the farm growing up. Thanks.

The weather apps all keep telling me that pollen counts are really high. I got a sore throat, stuffy nose, ear ache and all of that nonsense. I hope it goes away soon.

How awful for you. We need to get you a bubble to live in until the pollen count lowers. Yes, we are having similar problems here. We have Cottonwoods all around this area. The pods are causing me to have itchy eyes, a scratchy throat, and all the usual. With age, it seems that we become more sensitive to some things. But, I don't know which is allergies, and which is from sawdust and such around here with this renovation going on. I hope your symptoms get better.
