How do you feel when you come back from vacation?

How do you feel when you come home from vacation? I’m usually ready to come home by the time it’s over, but up until two years ago I hadn’t been on vacation in nine years. I’m actually going on a family cruise this year, followed by an inexplicable (but greatly appreciated) trip to Disneyland that which my sister wants to take me. Traveling is hard on me (back, fibro) so I never have the desire to go far. Up until this year I didn’t even want to deal with my passport because I was so reluctant to go further than Branson, Missouri, let alone a different country. As you can see from the picture, when my sister and her family were ready to come home from their last vacation, the girls were extremely disappointed, and Hudson was happy as a clam to get back home. Annelyn’s face (the girl in the middle) looks particularly perturbed. What about you? Are you excited to be home, or are you disappointed to be coming back?

When I was in Cozumel with my ex I never wanted to go. . . other than to see my cats. It was stressful for me to be worrying about other people caring for them. My one cat Sandy had such bad separation anxiety that I had to pay people to go sit with him for an hour or two. Another cat of mine, SoCo, was indoor/outdoor so sometimes he'd go out and not come back for a day. Or he'd return home after the neighbor had left. I had a GPS tracker on his collar (for real) so I could see where he was in the neighborhood even while I was in Mexico.

@ambiepam I’m dreading going home from Greece in 10 days time. My intention had always been to quit Ireland when I retired but life got in the way, so returning ‘home’ makes me grumpy.

Ireland sounds so incredible to me, but then Greece sounds absolutely fantastic too. But I suppose Ireland is tiresome when you’ve lived there so long.

I am always ready to come back home. I feel a little lost if I have been gone long at all.

Whenever we used to go to places when the kids were little, my daughter would say "I'm gonna miss this place" . . . and we had only just gotten there . This is the running joke every time we've gone anywhere. In my older age these days, there is a sense of huge relief to get home safe and sound .

I'm usually tired and would love to stay at destination longer and not participate in real life! However, I know I would miss my family, so heading home is the wise choice!

@AmbiePam I usually save up for that, but there have been times when unexpected expenses come up that crash your budget. It's life.

I also have to admit I end up thinking of all the money it’s costing to be on vacation.

I totally get what you mean. Usually after a long vacation, there's that feeling of hesitation to go back home. You're still in that relaxed, carefree mode and it’s hard to let go of the break from routine. But eventually, reality kicks in—you need to go back home, and you just have to accept that the vacation is over. It's like your mind is still on vacation, but your body has to return to the real world. ?? Still, there's also a certain comfort in coming back to familiar things—your own bed, your space, your routine. But yeah, those first few days back can be tough, especially when the vacation was really good!

@AmbiePam I too would be happy sleeping in my own bed. But when you truly enjoyed your vacation itis as if your soul was left behind that memory that was once. I guess that would be my reaction after my two week vacation in california thisncoming weekend just praying that everything will be fine as i go there.

I think my own bed was probably the only thing I was happy about seeing when I’d come home.

I think you have a fun vacation, I think cruising is awesome. We usually go to the province, or go to my aunt's house where all my mom's siblings gather every year. After a vacation, I feel so exhausted when we get home.

Hudson is the only one looking very happy to go home. I am usually happy to come back home, the only exception was when we have been in Key West, I would have loved to stay there forever.

When Pretty and I took vacations, it depended on where we went and why... I'm always happy to get back home because we always drove somewhere for vacation and she can't drive. I was usually exhausted from driving but our vacations were usually somewhere so we could relax away from home and work... When we stayed fairly close to home, I was relaxed and ready to go back to work a day or two after we got home. If we traveled across the country, I was exhausted and needed several days to relax at home before I was willing to go back to work.

I usually feel excited to be back home. But sometimes I do fell disappointed about coming back. My last trip to NJ to see my boyfriend, I was excited to be back home because it was so cold up there and I couldn't really use his computer. But I am planning going back up to NJ this November. But I bought a bluetooth computer mouse that I use with his computer.

@AmbiePam Chris loves Apple products. He had a new Apple computer and it had no USB ports. I didn't know it didn't until I got up there. I took my computer mouse that uses a USB and my wired headphones. So this year I will take my bluetooth earbuds and my bluetooth mouse.

I’m getting a new mattress soon because when I get back from vacation I’m greeted by sleeping on my couch.

It's a mixed bag. If I am with people I love and having a great time, I hate for it to come to an end...but then of course I almost always get back home truly exhausted. And then I find myself rather embarrassed at times that I have to ''rest up'' from a time that I was supposed to be resting up anyway, but hey...it's just the way it is! It's fun to get away, but it's nice to come home again.

I remember one time, my dad parked behind a friend’s house down the street when we got home from vacation. We needed time to recover from vacation, and a car in the driveway would tell everyone it was time to come overwhelm us again!

@MarieCoyle Your dad was right! We felt the need to hide the car because we lived next door to the church he pastored. Many, not all, members would descend on our house when we were home wanting something from us, and we just never got a break unless it was our yearly vacation. Unfortunately, that church contained a lot of people that would take and take and take, without regards to whom they were sucking dry.

@AmbiePam Oh, my. I wouldn't have thought of that, but you're right. My Dad always said that there were two days that even a perfect employee were pretty much worthless--the day before their vacation started, and the day they returned to work. I think he may have been right!

I am usually more like Hudson looks like he feels than not. We are both home bodies, so my husband will tell me during the ride home that he will have me back home again at such and such o'clock. That never worries me because home is literally any place that we are together, but since we are home bodies, it is always nice to return. We both have our bags unpacked and toiletries put away within a little while and often a load of laundry on the go within 20 minutes or so.

Because of my heart problem I have stopped traveling. I went to Kolkata in 2023 where my elder son stays. I get tired very soon. Earlier whenever I went out I loved coming back home.

When we would go to the Keys, I never wanted to come home. But it is nice to sleep in your own bed, or in our case, your own recliner.
