I like pennies. Anyway, you may have heard they will stop making them in 2026. Won't things be more expensive then? No more penny candies They will be 5 cents I guess. They will round stuff up to 5, so the article says. What do you think? Sincerely, A Boomer sad about pennies

Our smallest denomination now is the 5c piece. Pennies have been long gone for us. It is sad to see these things from our childhood disappear.

It is not the monetary value I am after, just sentimental. Though winning the lottery would be fantastic.

I like pennies too. I have been hearing this for some time now. I can understand why they are doing it. My ex used to throw pennies away. I made good lot of good money by scavenging for them. He threw them on the floor of his truck, and I'd just pick them up. I don't think there is any penny candy anymore, is there?

I don't use pennies anymore but I still have about a cupful of them put away. Mostly wheat pennies and a couple of pennies that are double-stamped that are worth a LOT more than a penny... I have two pennies that have Lincoln's tie double-stamped. They're supposed to be worth about $400 each, or were several years ago. I put them into tiny Ziploc baggies and kept them.

@RebeccasFarm I hope their price will go up more and Pretty can sell them some day... I have a lot of coins that are supposed to be worth money that I'm hoping will keep increasing in value. Have you seen the walking liberty silver dollars? I bought two of them for $10 each back when I was in my early twenties. Supposedly, they're worth around $150 each now. They're uncirculated...

Do you remember about ten years ago when Walmart hung umbrellas upside down through their stores and people kept throwing pennies/small change into them? Walmart cashed all that change out and supposedly donated it to charity. I know from our store alone (Republic, Missouri), they donated around $500 when they took those umbrellas down. They called it "Pennies from Heaven".

No more 4 pennies back as change. I've always said my goal was to die penniless. Looks like the government beat me to it, lol.

It's sad to lose something that you are used to. The penny was discontinued here years ago, it was hard to adjust to, but you do get used to it. We also replaced the one and two dollar bills with coins. That was also a challenge but in time, you may always remember the penny but will get used to not using it.

Penny candy has been gone for years! I see some around now for $.10 and even $.25 per piece of candy!! It's crazy! I will miss pennies. I collect old one and the old "wheat" pennies. I guess the values will go up significantly now.

I am sad about the penny, as its one more thing that will be gone. It will just cost more to buy items.

I haven't been able to use one cent because the smallest denomination in our place is 5 cents. Even those 5 cents are of no use nowadays. They just add to the weight of my coin purse.

From what I read existing pennies will still be in use. Like you’ll be able to pay with them. But it’s sad that new pennies will no longer be made. And what about shopping in stores. Will they now round up the total so the total ends in 5 or in 0 cents?

I have wondered if having no more pennies is a way to make us pay more for the "rounding up". Well, I guess it will mean we will be finding coins of bigger value on the sidewalk .
