The Washing Machine is Fixed!

I finally got ahold of the guy that I always called to work on my appliances. He informed me that he retired about 4 years ago, and for the same reason I was forced to retire. He has hyperthyroidism, too. We talked about that for a little while, comparing our symptoms and medications before he told me the name and number of the guy he sold his business to. I called the new guy and he showed up about an hour ago and found the problem and had it fixed in about 20 minutes. The washing machine works again!

YAY, no more coin laundry and hauling wet clothes home, etc. I am glad it's fixed, so much less work for you.

Thanks! And the guy only charged $100 for the repair, too!

@DaddyEvil I am glad it wasn’t more than that. It seems as if it was an easy fix for him.

@MarieCoyle It really did look easy. I wish I knew more about how different appliances worked. I think I could have fixed that without any problems.

Glad to know your appliances are functioning again Now don't have to spend time in washing cloths. Our washing maschine went out of order last year and we had to buy a new one. It's functioning well.

Thanks. Pretty was sure we'd have to buy a new one. I'm glad it wasn't anything serious wrong with ours.

It's good to hear that your appliance is operating normally again. When things fall through, we sometimes attempt to determine if they are worth replacing or repairing.

@DaddyEvil Finding someone skilled at fixing things is always beneficial. The current generation of appliances is not built to last. They are, in my opinion, made to last a few years before being suggested for replacement in order to continue manufacturing their goods.

@DaddyEvil All manufacturers, in my opinion, want devoted, good customers who will continue to buy their products. However, they do make it last so that you will purchase their next enhanced model with a ton of new features, which helps them stay in business.

Thanks. That's true but we were worried the washer would be a big expense but it only cost $100 to get it fixed! My daughter kept telling me we'd be able to buy a new washing machine in a few months. I kept telling her we just needed to find somebody to look and see what the problem actually was before we worried too much about it.

Too bad about his thyroid condition, great that he remembered you and passed on his successor's information. Things have to get much better after you finish playing catch up on the mountains of laundry.

@DaddyEvil As I read the post I thought that odd also. You have hyper and I have hypothyroidism.

Thanks. We don't have mountains of laundry. We've been going to a laundromat once a month just so we have clean clothes to wear. It is odd that he has the same type of disease that I have and had to retire about the same time I did.

I am glad, often it's not a serious problem, but if you do not know the right guy, they force you to change the machine.

@DaddyEvil - I remember when they wanted to force my Mom to replace her old washing machine. She called an old retired worker he knew, it was only a plastic tube that needed to be replaced.

@LadyDuck Some people prefer to replace machines instead of fixing the ones we already own.

@rakski Yes, I washed my underclothes and sleep shorts in the sinks and dried them in the dryer... I wouldn't try to wash jeans in the sinks by hand.

Thanks. Yes, I washed some things in the sinks in the kitchen by hand but Pretty wouldn't do any of her clothes by hand and I wasn't about to try to do all the laundry that way.

We were spending between $15 and $20 a month at the laundromat. That adds up after a while, not including gas to get there and the annoyance of having to stay with the clothes while they're washed. We thought the car being fixed was more important than the washing machine.

Whoa what are the odds you have the same illness. Haha. What if it's not just you two who got hyperthroidism in your neighborhood? Ohhh wouldn't it be interesting to know, lol. But this is just me perhaps who've watched too many movies or TV series. Glad to know your washing machine is working now.

@owstalaga There are other ways for this illness to start besides chemicals.

Chemicals we're exposed to can cause hyperthyroidism and people working in the same types of jobs or do similar types of things can get the same diseases, that's true. Just like him, I've worked in jobs that use a lot of chemicals. And we've both lived in this city all our lives. Thank you.

I would hate not to have a working washing machine. I think I'd give all my other appliances beforre my washing machine. Re the hyperthyroidism: Vince had half his thyroid removed some years ago but never had to go on to tablets. The removal didn't seem to affect him at all. He just suddenly developed a lump in his throat one day.

I agree, I'd rather give up everything else we use as long as the washing machine and car still work. Oh, I see... My hyperthyroidism isn't bad enough for the doctors to want to take out part of my thyroid. I'm glad Vince is okay now.

It is good that although your regular repair man wasn't able to help he was able to give you the number of someone who could. We have been trying to get a gardener for over a month now and people do not even return our calls or messages....very frustrating.

I was glad he sent me to see the other guy, too. The new guy had the washing machine fixed really quickly and didn't charge as much as I was worried he'd charge. I'm sorry you're having problems like that. I went out this morning and trimmed a holly bush that is trying to invade our front porch. I keep clipping the limbs back but it keep sending new ones over the wall.

Yay for a working washing machine! Interesting to chat with someone and compare symptoms. I think we laughed at our parents when they had those conversations!

Glad you were able to catch up a bit with the original appliance fixer guy and found the new one. Not having a working washing machine (or basically any appliance) is a huge headache.

We couldn't believe it when the car broke down around the same time that the washing machine quit working. My brother has been taking us to the laundromat once a month since October or November last year. My brother was happy when the car got fixed and I'm sure, if I told him the washer worked now, too, he'd be even happier.
