I found out who ruined the surprise. (My dad’s 70th birthday)

I thought I knew who ruined the surprise, but I actually found out today because they were at my dad’s house. See, my dad and his wife share an email address. I do not know why. Anyway, the person today said, “I know they share an email, but I still didn’t think he’d see it. Maybe I shouldn’t have titled it Dennis’ surprise party.”
Oh, wow. I have no why Diana told this person about the party (it’s her friend that lives 2 hours away) until the night before, but I guess obviously she wanted to give her time to plan to attend.
My sister and I aren’t mad, but we almost pulled it off, and it is disappointing.
We’ll all have fun anyway! All of his ten living siblings are coming too.

With so many people invited somebody was bound to spill the beans! How long do you have the venue?

Yeah, that’s what I figured. It’s at my dad’s church so they don’t care how long we are there. They’re coming to decorate tonight, and will help clean up tomorrow along with me and my sister.
My sister came down around noon, and she’s talking his ear off about it.

@snowy22315 They are doing ribs, pulled pork, and fried bologna. The guy catering is charging for the food, but not his work hours because he knows and likes my dad (my dad’s done a lot for his family). Still, it’s going to be a lot of food, like you said. It’s costing a lot. I pitched in barely, but most of what I did was leg work.

@AmbiePam Did you say sis is paying for a roast or something? That thing must be half a cow.

@LadyDuck I totally agree! Apparently. It has to do with when they tried to give her her own email. I won’t bore you with details, but instead of asking someone to help because the internet company changed how to do things, Diana was like, who cares, I’ll share yours. My dad simply does not care about stuff like that so he agreed. I could not do that.

The lady knew they shared an email address, but the lady has to be a bit of a dim bulb in the first place to make it so obvious. The invitation (the lady has also FB) said please no emails concerning the party to Diana.
However, I still think sharing an email made it precarious, like you said.

@AmbiePam - If she knew that they shared the email, she had to avoid to send an email about the event. That lady is not very smart.
I prefer to have my personal email, you never know, I had to discuss a few things with my husband doctor and it was better that he did not know what we were discussing.

Oh yes, and he’ll be shocked his youngest brother is coming because his youngest brother is so shy. Although, Julia, he got a little real with me today. I asked him if he knew who was coming he said, “No, but I just really don’t want a party.” I didn’t tell my sister he said that. Plus, he’s going to love seeing people. It’ll be okay in the end.

@AmbiePam I wonder if he meant that he did not want a fuss, and used the word party.
He will love to see old acquaintances and family members, that is going to be so special for him and for them. It sure would be nice if Amyra could somehow get a photo of him from you so that she can do a sketch of it to give to him at another time. That would be so meaningful to him.

I think these days it's getting harder and harder to keep surprise parties secret. Unfortunately, it's too easy for digital information to be seen by the very people we are trying to keep from seeing it. I'm sorry to hear the surprise was compromised, but you did almost pull it off. In the end, I just hope your dad enjoyed his birthday "surprise."

Maybe I'm an A-hole...but I would be super annoyed. Things like that are a special occasion and alot of effort goes into planning them. It went from what could've been a fantastic surprise to a failed surprise part. I agree that the more people invited the higher the chance of the beans being spilled! And now that I think about it, this person probably didn't realize that you all have a shared email account.

That reminds me so much of when my family and I flew in from the Philippines for my aunt's 80th birthday in LA—we were meant to be the big surprise. Word must’ve slipped somewhere along the way because she found out before the day, but honestly, the joy on her face when she saw us was just as heartwarming. The surprise may have been spoiled, but the love and effort behind it still shone through.
It’s funny how these things work out: the planning, the secrecy, the little hiccups—and yet, in the end, it’s the presence and the memories made that matter most. Just like your dad’s party, I’m sure what will linger are the laughs, the stories, and the feeling of being surrounded by the people who care most.

Well at least you know it was not the kiddos or anyone really close who slipped up. I hope it is tons of fun.

My husband and I share an e-mail too, but I am the only one that really checks on it.

It's tough to keep a secret especially when so many people are invited. Someone will spill the beans.
Hope that all goes well with the party and you all have lots of fun and memories. I am sure that your Dad is going to love it.
