I might have to wear a Kilt.

June 22, 2025 8:23pm CST
I might have to wear a kilt. And I really do not want to do it. We have been invited to a wedding and the dress code for men is a Kilt. I vowed I would never wear one. I have never worn one. To be honest texts have been flying around from other invited guests saying they don't want the expense of getting a Kilt either. It's not just the Kilt- shirt, jacket, socks, sporran, shoes etc too. Even worse, they are sending out a list of wedding presents they want. Sorry, not happening. You don't ask for wedding presents on a list you send people Yvonne said we should decline the invitation. A few others have said they are not going either. This is small town rural Scotland, no gift lists, no mandatory Kilts!! So it's a no from us, hope you get all the gifts you beg for. Look at it, it's hideous, and one cannot wear underwear under neath it Perish the thought

That just seems rather rude to me, I could understand if they requested formal wear but a kilt??? You have answered one question I'd wondered about, now I know ..... kilt = no undies

The Groom is a good friend of mine. And he is aware that most of the guys he has invited cannot afford to hire outfits - have to travel 30 miles for that as no men's outfitter here. Not going,

It was rude to ask for presents sending the invitation, even more rude to say mandatory Kilts. Yvones is right, decline the invitation.

@Ineeddentures I have a real Scottish Tartan that I bought ages ago in a Scottish store in Milan.

I think that these days ankist of wanted gifts is commonplace. I will not subscribe to it. The Kilts I sort of understand because they want the perfect wedding photos and it's Scotland so what better than a group of guys and women lol, dressed in Tartan photographed in the grounds of a big castle Not for us.

They should buy them if that's what they want. To an extent I understand a gift list. Especially if they are already in a home.

Aye well Eva I understand it also. Bloody cheeky putting a great big huge smart TV on the list. Didn't see people lining up to give them that. I had no idea that our national look stupid attire was so expensive

Yeah. I'd probably decline as well. Too many demands. I declined a wedding recently that required guests be vaccinated for covid. I said thanks, but no thanks, and wished them well but stayed home.

Oh my! Something that took off here last year is for wedding and/or baby showers, the bride or mother to be gives the wardrobe color for guests in their invitation. Oh no, I'm not wearing what you want me to to your shower. You should be glad that I came! Not dictate what people wear!!

I wouldn't go to a baby shower either Heard that they can be expensive People dictating stuff like this can expect me not to attend.

I have a little bit of Scottish on my Mom's side. My son loves to golf and I have told him that I would love to see him wear a kilt one day. He just laughs at me.

I can relate to your son perfectly well. Please don't advise he plays golf in kilt. They tend to get blown up and expose the bits

I'm glad you're not going; but I would fancy a picture of you in full kilt regalia! The list of gifts is just tacky.
