A job for Bob

Ever since the company he worked for restructured in 2018, Bob has wanted to go back to work. Then he had all those health problems.
He is really healthy now and would like to have something to do.
I am always looking at a job website and I mentioned one to him. It is a very small merchandising job. At least to start with. Maybe fourteen hours per month. However, I have seen them advertising a lot. If another route comes open they will offer it to him as well.
He will be paid for mileage, and time as well as his hourly.
Mostly he will be refilling gift card displays, and maybe putting security stickers on some items. None of it is heavy work.
The onboarding is all online, and the websites get glitchy. Some of it is my fault-because I am doing it for him at his request.
It will give him reason to get out of the house on an every other week basis and that is a good thing. A little pocket money is never a bad thing either.

That's good that he would start off with just 14 hours a month. Sounds like the perfect job for him. I hope he gets it.

He has it, provided I/we can get this onboarding finished. The recruiter told us the site has problems.

I hope it works out for him. Sounds like a great little job to give him something to do and get him out and about more.

@MarieCoyle Well it did not work out. The system was so messed up we became concerned that it would also mess up the payroll.

Yes, it will. The longer people can be active and feel productive, the better.

This is actually how his last job started with the other merchandising company. They wanted me, but I had a job that would not work with it. They hired him, starting at 12 hours per week and finished with forty.

@DaddyEvil If they add too much he can always say "no". I thought of Pretty while I was doing this unforgiving, unhelpful paperwork.

I retired at 50 but I am not sure I am completely done. Yet. I'm getting antsy. I don't need the money, but having something to do would be nice, I suppose. Hopefully he can get the job and it works out for him. Sounds like an interesting gig.

He always liked merchandising. 50 would be too young for me to retire. We could always use more money.

@porwest And you planned well. We were neither of us smart enough when we were young enough. We do like to travel when we can.

@GardenGerty I was not always "smart," but things worked out. I did get into business very early and that helped a great deal.
Very early in life I said, "I want to be a millionaire." The difference was that I didn't just say it. I also grouped myself with some people, and maybe I got lucky being in their circle, who very early on said to me, "If you ever want to get rich, a paycheck won't ever do that for you."
Getting rich is not ever achieved through working for someone else. It's achieved by owning things. The key was that someone had to not only tell me that...
I had to listen to them and forget what everyone else told me before that lesson which was...
"Get a good job, work hard and you will retire comfortably."
I learned very early on that was a lie.
That is in NO WAY to disparage hard work. Getting rich is not easy. It requires great risk, intestinal fortitude, and INTENSE work. You have to be able to stomach losing $20k or $100k and still sleep at night.
It's just to say that working alone is rarely the answer. At the same time, not everyone can BE rich. The world needs worker bees or it doesn't function. And it's NOT to say either, that the worker bees get screwed or is somehow diminished.
They just lead different lives and have different retirements.
It also doesn't mean I am fully retired. I am still involved in business. I'm just in more of a passive role. All I have to do is invest my money in good businesses run by smart people, and they will make me all the money I will ever need.

The money is always a good thing
Would Bob ever consider posting on here for some extra money?

Yvonne was the same.
She did it for a while and lost all interest because she couldn't compete with me.

@Ineeddentures Bob just likes people he can see in person. We have met a few lotters, or former lotters.
